When they come together with other local pods I believe this is also their opportunity to mate as well. The female gets pregnant by another pods son then once she is pregnant she returns to her family. They all live with their family for life. Which is rare in the animal kingdom.

In the first part they're resting and travelling as they don't sleep only rest and consciously breath. Then there's a slightly sgressive tail slap a "bugger off" slap but then they start to mill and make gentle slaps as they start to socially interact... Damn I love marine mammals.

Thank you for Sharing this Video. Auch wonderful and intelligent animals. I saw a Video from a sientist about Evolution and brains. The Dauphin Family ist much smarter than we are, really. Unbelievalbe, but true. They habe dialects, diden't breed with other groups which are looking different since 10.000 years. WE habe technology, they habe Echo Location and social, emotional Part 9t the brain, that WE DONT have. Amazing

This was footage was shot at least 12 yrs ago. It was my first time to shoot video of these wonderful whales and I been out 50 or more times since and nothing like this has ever happened. I remember one of the male whales in J pod died a couple of weeks later and I had this footage.The whale that died was the most popular of all the males his name was Evert J-16 ,that is him with his pod at the 6 min mark,you will notice him slowing down after this experience.

Wonder why it slaps its tale against the water does that mean anything?
@shoreroadmac
@shoreroadmac 4 жыл бұрын
When they were slapping their tales it was the big male J-24 Evert he was the Rudolph of that pod after that feed he was was so slow and the slapping was to keep him going that day because two weeks latter he was found dead on a beach in White Rock BC . males average age of life 28 females 69.

@@shoreroadmac that’s quite a big difference in age, do we know why this is is ? It was nice to watch with people being quiet, I saw one video recently with a bunch of young females swimming with a pod and one of the ladies seemed to think she could communicate making rather bizarre infantile sounds like you do with human babies , I guess anthropomorphism when humans meet mammals this clever is inevitable, I’d loved to know what the orcas thought lol
