Thanks for posting your orchid care videos. You helped me figure out how to save an orchid that was given to me for my birthday and I had no idea how to care for it. I'm happy to report that after almost killing it, it is growing new roots and has put out a healthy looking leaf :D

Hi Dani, if your treating for the red spider mites using your diy spray, do you just spray once or do you follow up with a second spray? If you do spray again how long do you wait in between the two treatments?

Hi Dani. I'm glad the Roni Von is going strong! Lol To be honest I'm not sure about the ID either as it looks a bit different than what should look like as well. Regardless of ID I'm glad you still enjoying it. I have been off the orchid world a bit as work is taking over my time more than it should but still enjoy yours and others videos here and there. X

I'm sure someone has already suggested this, but I'll ask just in case: Have you considered the Cattlianthe Alyssa Nehemie as an ID for your red beauty? To my (layman's) eye the flowers look remarkably similar.

Emergency, l have almost severed a new flower spike about 8 inches long. I was trying to attach a figure eight orchid clip to hold it to the support, can it possibly survive. I also cut off a new bud that has just started to develop at the top of that same or orchid. It my first attempt at growing orchids, l have 5 and this is the first one to produce a new bud and to produce a new flower spike. I am so disappointed at my mistakes. Is it possible that if l place the flower spike l cut off with new bud on ( it previously had 6 flowers on the spike that had just all died ) in orchid media it will be ok. Regards Chris

My mini phalaenopsis was pushing a new leaf which stopped growing in a premature stage. It has some markings on it so I suspect spider mites or this sort took advantage of the soft tissue. Now it seems like to push another tiny leaf out through the previous crippled leaf. The growth seem to be really slow or even has stopped again. Could these leaves that are kinda stuck in the crown prevent the orchid from growing healthy normal leaves ever again
@MissOrchidGirl
@MissOrchidGirl 5 жыл бұрын
Hi, it could be yes, especially if one of the leaves is dry and doesn't let the other push through. You also cannot know if they are deformed inside the crown and pulling on them might break them. In any case, if the crown gets very damaged, the orchid will probably try to produce a keiki. If you think you can do this safely, maybe try and open a bit the previous leaf and see if it's trapping the new one. There is a chance you'll break them though, case in which they may, or may not grow from there again.

Regarding the supposed Cattleya Ronnie Von: the registration for the grex tells us that said grex is line breeding on C. Culminant, a well known cross of large lavenders. As such one would expect the offspring to be similar. Now, with complex hybrids one can get a few offspring that just happen to combine the right genetics to bring forward some distant ancestor, and C. Ronnie Von does have C. pumila in the ancestry, the only small-ish ancestor in the pedigree, and your plant's flowers are reminiscent somewhat of C. pumila, especially in the labellum. Still, if it were my plant I'd probably go ahead and label it as a NoID. The flairs in the petals, really marks along the midribs of the tepals, is interesting, so I wonder if your plant could be a cross of C. Ronnie Von with some splash petal parent?

Hi Dani I have a Blla dianna dunn newberry has hardly no roots repotted in the oncidium mix from repot me psudebulbs are shrivled and leaves wrinkled I am trying to rehydrate it anything else I can do? Also can I fertilize it?
@MissOrchidGirl
@MissOrchidGirl 5 жыл бұрын
Hi, no I wouldn't suggest you fertilize it. Keep the medium directly under the roots damp and if possible use the softest water you have. First we need to get new roots going without damaging tips, then think of fertilizer. Some will take their time to root though, fingers crossed it roots fast!

I am having a real bad time with 2 of my cattleyas. The newgrowths aka new tissues of the plants are becoming black and jelly like and mushing off..i cannot seem to get on top of it. I fear i might lose them. Can you suggest any measures?it is a fast spreading thing and till now iylt is only damaging new tissues. I am pretty sure that this is not overwatering since one adfected individual is even mounted! And the plants look healthy (ne shriveling bulbs...just plooof! A newgrowth's leaf tissue goes black!). I grow my orchids in a sheltered south facing open balcony, humidity is around 75% and above this past month, living in the wettest place on earth (Assam,NE India) Just help! Wish i could send you pics. Do you still use your gmail for me to be able to send you pics??
@MissOrchidGirl
@MissOrchidGirl 5 жыл бұрын
Hi, Cattleyas are notorious for losing new growths this way when having a calcium deficiency, learn more here www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=staugorchidsociety.org/PDF/CalciumDeficiencyInCattleyasbySueBottom.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwjkzO_C2_3kAhUTBGMBHYR0ANkQFjAAegQIAhAB&usg=AOvVaw30323kEmbuepGJ37MWi-54 try to think if you are fertilizing with a complete fertilizer, or you are using too soft water, or have any other reason for improper calcium absorption etc.

@MissOrchidGirl
@MissOrchidGirl 5 жыл бұрын
Hi, if the flowers fell, but the orchid has nice leaves are roots all is ok. The orchid will not be in bloom all the time, it will have a grow period where new leaves are roots will grow. You can use bark chips that you find in flower shops or garden centers for orchids and just water it when it gets dry. Don't place it in the sun, just bright shade. For now let it grow and it will bloom in the next cool season. Here is my tutorial for more info, good luck! kzbin.info/www/bejne/g5TIXqGba7OsgpI
