So if sc1000 is a metal chelating agent. And there’s a pool stain on the plaster, it won’t take it off by chelating the metal??

Great question, and the answer is not really, no. it’s not made to remove existing stains. But with the help of citric acid (aka ascorbic acid), which lifts the stain, SC can chelate the lifted metals.

Help! We have a ton of sharp (ouchy) calcium crystals along our concrete surface after opening from winter (we live in PA northwest of Philly). We just found your site so a bit delayed in identifying the issue. We plan to use SC-1000 (awaiting receipt of order). I have a couple of questions 1) now that our chemistry is pretty balanced we notice white dust on all surfaces every morning and we’re not certain it’s there every day because it’s failing to get filtered out or if it’s new dust from calcium crystals settling out? How do we keep up with it/remove it? 2) we have a salt water pool. If we add shock and/or turn chlorinator up, can we add SC-1000 purge altogether or must we purge over several weeks? The crystals make our pool almost unusable (husband has serious scrapes on hand after mishap with pumice stone that caused him to scrape against the crystals) and it’s basically Memorial Day ☹️

Hi Michelle, sorry to hear you have crystals. To answer your questions, 1) it sounds like calcium fallout of some kind. Focus first on balancing your LSI. Based on what you’re saying you probably have low calcium hardness and need to raise it. In PA I’d aim for 400 ppm or so. Chelate that calcium with some SC-1000 before adding to the water. 2) You can divide the purge dose over 3 or four days, or purge all at once and wait 2 or 3 days before chlorinating again. The warmer the water, the faster SC-1000 activates. Visit ask.orendatech.com and search “Crystals” for more details.

Thanks again for your help. We finished the SC-1000 a week ago, calcium is up closer to 400 and LSI has been in green/yellow for 1-2 weeks. The sandpaper crystals are still hanging on (ouch). Is it a matter of patience at this point or is there more we should be doing? I’m also worried because we are leaving in a week for a 10-day vacation and can’t babysit the LSI.

Can a maintenance doses of SC-1000 and CV-700 be added at the same time?

Yes they can be added together 👍🏼

My pool plaster turned rough within a two week period. I wonder if it’s calcium crystals. Is this the right product for that? Have you heard of this problem before?

Do you think sc1000 would be a good alternative to soak a salt cell in?

No it doesn’t work that fast. It needs water too because it has to chelate the minerals and put them somewhere. SC-1000 alone has a pH over 10, so it won’t dissolve scale without being in the right concentration in water.
