I have a time-saving tip: Buy sheets with a stripe or directional pattern on them (I like damask stripe), and you won't have to spend five minutes wrestling with the sheets trying to figure out which end goes where when you're putting them back on after washing.

A huge time-saver I adopted 10 years ago for our family of 6 was to only buy white towels for all of our bathrooms. No more making sure the right color went to the right bathroom. No more fading and biggest of all they all can be bleached. I buy the hotel quality white towels from Costco. Such a great deal.

I have heard that it is a millennial thing that we feel somewhat awkward about "adulting". Likely because our world has changed so much, that being adults the way our parents and grandparents were adults, feels outdated, but we aren't quite sure what else to do. So we awkwardly play this old "costume drama" of 'adulting', while not really relating to it. Thank you for coming to my TedTalk 😉

I have three tips: I marked my blankets and bedspread with a marker to show where the top and bottom center mark is and where the top and bottom corner edges are. This saves me from walking around and around the bed trying to get them straight on the bed. They are straight immediately the first time. Because the top sheet is folded over the blanket, the marks at the top don't show, and because the bedspread is over the foot of the blanket the marks don't show. And because the quilt has a pattern, the little black dots I put at the head and foot don't show. This has been such a time saver! I also used the clear plastic boxes spinach, mushrooms, and cookies come in to help me organize my drawers! I love those cookie trays! Perfect for holding toothbrush and paste, deodorant, etc. Why spend more money when I have already paid for that container and brot it into my house? Try it! I also saved the cardboard tubes from paper towels and fold plastic bags into balls and stuff them into the tubes. I have two tubes in the car and pull out or blow out the plastic bags and hang them over the stick shift so I can put trash in there. Keeps my car clean! I also put those balled-up plastic bags in the foot of all my waste baskets and pull one out to use to line the waste basket as needed. The replacement is right there!

I can't get behind using pot liners or using disposable dishes at home to save a few minutes at when the amount of garbage piling up is so insane. I use reusable silicone pan liners for baking sheets, and if something gets stuck to a pot I just let it soak overnight Edit: Another massive time saver tfor me was to stop shopping "for fun." I used to go to the store to shop around when I was bored, and didn't really need anything. I spent a bunch of money I didn't have, on things I didn't need, and now had to find a place in my tiny apartment for all that stuff. Decreasing the amount of stuff I'm bringing into my house has been one of the biggest time savers. I don't have to shop for it, I don't have to store it, clean it, put it back where it's supposed to be or declutter it. Now I have a running list of things I think I might need soon, and only go shopping for things that I have thought about, carefully considered and decided, 'yes, I actually need this thing.'

I barely iron anymore: tip from my mum: if there are any shirts in my wash load, I set the spinning speed to low (400 rpm), take out the shirts that would normally require ironing, hand them up on hangers, and spin the rest of the laundry at 800 rpm. The shirts that are still quite wet when hung up, dry without wrinkles thanks to this trick.
@thebeaside
@thebeaside 2 жыл бұрын
I just stopped caring about being wrinkly. I hang everything up on hangers and they dry fine and I can hang them right up in the closet. I just embrace the creased linen look and basically only iron if I’m going to a wedding or when I’m sewing to get nice seams. I’m a pretty casual person and I wear hospital scrubs at work so it’s never a problem.

My fear with the cooker liners is their long term effect on health. When plastic is heated to such high temperatures, its composite chemicals may leach into the food. So you end up with health problems just to save a few minutes.

These could be for specific recipes or certain situations. Leftover food traces from when you scrubbed for half an hour and did your best but traces are still there can't be good for you, either. Do your homework and find what works for you. Overcooking/burning food is so bad for you, for example. Cas is a VERY busy human. I see why she wants to save time wherever possible.

Late to the conversation, but slow cookers are best used on a lower heat for longer. However I wouldn't like the plastic waste. I find if I put the Croc pot straight into soak ( once I have plated up) it is a breeze to clean.

The problem with slow cooker liners, parchment paper, and paper plates is not that they are lazy, they are so wasteful! Why make more trash? They make silicone baking mats you can use instead of parchment paper. They are easy to clean and you don't have to scrub the pan. Now, do I never use these single-use items, no. For recipes I know are particularly stubborn to clean, I'll use a slow cooker liner. If I'm broiling, my silicone mats can't be used at that temperature, so I'll use parchment paper. Using these things every time you cook, or recommending people have a paper plate night once a week creates so much extra trash over time.

I butter my crock pot before I put the ingredients into it. Likewise, I butter my Pyrex pans before putting the food into them, too. Okay, you got me, I use margarine, not butter, I can't afford butter. Forgive the use of a term my grandmothers used and I never let go of. But food is SO much easier to wash off the crock or the pans that way! I don't have a dishwasher. So I fill the pans with hot soapy water and put them to the side; by the time I've washed the plates, cups/glasses, and silverware, the pans are ready to wash with half the effort. Yes, I love the ease of paper plates and plastic silverware, foil pans for food prep, oh boy!! But those are for when my kids all come home once a month for family dinner, so I can spend my time enjoying them instead of cleaning up. My way won't be right for everybody, but it is right for me 😊 If it helps you, so much the better.

These are great hacks! I even remember some of them from your older videos! However there are 2 that I won't do: voice command everything, and steaming clothes. I get better and faster results ironing than steaming, I can usually leave my ironing board set up in guest room, and it takes just as much time to plug in an iron (and set up the board) as it does to fill and set up a steamer. I am averse to devices that do voice command, simply because it means they are always listening. All it takes is the wrong people to be in power and suddenly your privacy is nonexistent. We still use smart plugs because they're great for scheduling things like Christmas lights.

I got my first robovac (Eufy) last month and it's awesome. For a place that was getting vacuumed and dusted as much as mine was, the robovac still found crumbs and cat fur I'd missed. Definitely needed to do a big declutter before anything like that was possibnle, and it's SO been worth it!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing your wisdom in such a fun & easy-to-comprehend way. I have ADHD as well, and my organization style is a butterfly. It's been life-changing. "Organization is not about perfection.
