Love that your beekeeping 😁 as a 7yrs of being a beekeeper myself I love to see others enjoy it. As for feeding you are correct with feeding them only in fall for syrup (sugar water) but you can feed them during winter only if they need but use a powder base feeding. We use a product called bee pro

Hey Taras, Here's a tip: if you color your boxes black, it'll help keep the bees just a tad bit warmer when needed by letting the sun's energy be absorbed into the hives!
@Arkchalis6 жыл бұрын
Kourosh Yazdani hi, Wouldn't it be too hot on summer?
@Kouroshy2216 жыл бұрын
Hey @arkchalis, it could! that's why you alternate coloring boxes. So if you have 2 boxes on each other, you color one black and leave the other white :) this gives the bees an option on where they wanna go.
@animeaunty6 жыл бұрын
He wrapped all the hives over winter so the sun was never directly on the wood.
@fishmanfairclough75306 жыл бұрын
The wrapping is to keep the heat in it has reflective facing inwards you can use black roofing felt which absorbs the sun heat as well.
@eqhymay6 жыл бұрын
Kourosh Yazdani - Using 20 or 30 lb tar paper (the stuff that goes under roofing) for winterizing lets you have that dark color in winter, and removing it so you have your lighter painted colors in summer

I'd say its safe enough to feed them in the winter if you use a mixture thick enough, to mimic honey, maybe 2 sugar 1 water? Also leave the top whole open so moister can escape.

Hey Taras! You should try to use some formic acid patty, I've heard that it is very strong against mites without harming the bees.
@PJMDS6 жыл бұрын
Try formic acid before the temperatures go down in Autumn and again when the temperatures start to raise in early spring before you put the honey supers. It works for me here in Portugal and it's almost impossible for the varroa mites to be imune to the formic acid, also kills and damages varroa mites in sealed brood were about 80% of the varroa mites are.

Since white sugar has no nutritive value, wouldn't that have an effect on the mites gaining a foothold in the box (as the bee's immune systems would be lowered)? How about either using unrefined sugar and or adding some Trace concentrated mineral drops to the water when making the sugar water/candy?

You should start feeding dry sugar, I would feed "fondant". Just like you said in the video, if your bees "boom" then they are going to run through their limited honey stores. Feeding fondant is a way to feed sugar during the cold. If this cluster is going to survive it's most likely going to be through you feeding them. Good luck to you and your bees, I am sorry about your losses. EDIT: Feed dry if you are still going to have cold temperatures.
