Origination of the Trinity | Session 1 | Joel Hemphill

Joel Hemphill brings clarity to the post biblical evolution of the Doctrine of the Trinity. Joel also brings us a view of what is at stake for Christ and Christians relative to this non-biblical view of God.
After 50 years as a Oneness Pentecostal minister, Joel Hemphill came to the understanding that not only is the Doctrine of the Trinity not scriptural, but that modern-day Oneness doctrine is lacking as well. While Brother Hemphill still holds to the Jesus Name - Apostolic message, he has come to the realization that the Jesus Name Apostolics in the Book of Acts were not proclaiming the post-biblical Oneness view of God. They did not declare God as three “manifestations.” Rather, they declared the Father himself as the only one who is truly God. And, Jesus, not as God, but rather God’s virgin born human son - the man whom God has “made to be Lord and Christ” (Acts 2.36). The Apostles in the Book of Acts taught repentance and baptism in the name of Jesus “Christ” not Jesus “Our God” (Acts 2.38).

It is sad how often Trinitarians distort scripture to prove the trinity and then quote the distortion to prove the trinity. Reminds me of muslims. Which is ironic because trinitarians and musilms like to argue with each other by pointing out each others' lies, but then fail to look at the lies they themselves believe. But I believe all this confusion is allowed because God wants us to understand how evil lies really are, and that nothing good comes from it.

In 1 John 4: 2........He who confesses that Jesus Christ came in the flesh, is from God. In the Greek, the term ''Annointed One'', is Christ, but in the hebrew the word is messiah. In the list of names and attributes of God, you will not find the name messiah. Messiah is an epithet for Jesus alone.

Even in the face of these facts given by eminent trinitarian theologians, which clearly show the unbiblical source of trinitarian doctrine, the pull and weight of false human tradition will still win out---for most! But not all, thanks to the boundless mercy of the Living God.

Jesus is the firstborn of every creature that means he is God what you basically believe is that God cannot take the form of a man by the way the baptism of Jesus is another example of the trinity

The doctrine of the trinity says, “God is one God in 3 persons”. Romans 1:22-23 “Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man.” When God says He is Omnipresent Holy Spirit, 1 John 4:24, 2 Cor. 3:17 and Christians say God is 3 persons. Gods word says they become fools. If that is not enough proof that the doctrine of the trinity is a faults doctrine, what other proof do you need?

I'll stick with the faith once delivered to the saints. The arrogance of preaching a message contrary to scripture and to the teaching of the early church fathers, who lived and preached in the living memory of the apostles, is quite staggering.

@TRUTHINCHRIST-cw8ke The basis of the doctrine of the Trinity is that there is only one true God. 1. You do realise that Jesus didn't write John 17.3 - it was actually John who was quoting Jesus. Ths was the same John who had written earlier in his gospel that the "Word was God". 2. John also quotes Jesus as saying "The Father and I are one" (John 10.30) 3. You may remember that Jesus was crucified because he claimed to be God and that Thomas greeted the resurrected Lord as God. May I suggest you read the Athanasian Creed to help you understand the Trinity.

I'm sorry that you are both so close to faith and yet so far away. Without the divinity of Christ and his incarnation, there is no salvation. You have reduced Christ to the same level as Buddha or Krishna.

Joel Hemphill is a Christian minister who taught Oneness theology for decades. Oneness doctrine and trinitarianism are shadow images of each other, which use the same scriptures and terms to justify their dogma, just coming to a different conclusion. The question is not "Who is Joel Hemphill?" The question is "Did you listen to who he quoted?" That was not Joel Hemphill saying those things against trinitarian doctrine. Those were respected trinitarians, ministers, professors, explaining the actual origins of the doctrine WHICH THEY STILL BELIEVE, in spite of knowing where trinitarian thought came from, namely, Greek philosophers. You are asking the wrong question. Ask the Most High God, not your church, not your denomination, not your seminary graduates, not your ministers, not their Greek traditions of man. These devout trinitarian experts were honest in their explanations of the development of the doctrine which they STILL hold to, knowing full well that no explicit teaching of trinity can be found in scripture, THESE are the men to hear. Joel is merely quoting directly from their own mouths. This is the power of human tradition over man, to recognize and explain CLEARLY that the doctrine of trinity is NOT found in scripture, but originates from a foreign and godless source, and STILL they cling to it! Joel Hemphill is nobody, and he'll tell you the same. Listen instead to what the trinitarians themselves tell you, about what they've learned in their research, and trust what they say, because it is truth.

Not JW's, Karam, honestly i'm in no organized denomination. I was brought out of it when i prayed to be shown if there was anything false that i believed, because it was so easy for me to tell everyone ELSE where their beliefs were wrong. And none of us ever wonders if, in all these differing doctrines, maybe WE are the ones who are wrong. It's always the other guy, the other group, though all of us just accept what our group taught us as being the "one" truth. Someonody's wrong, yet no one ever thinks to ask, "Is it I, Lord?"

There's the father, the son , and the holy Ghost. God sent his son Jesus born of a virgin. God sent Jesus to die on the cross and rose again on the 3rd day to save us from our sins. God gave Jesus all power. Until the day comes for Jesus to give God back all power. We pray in Jesus name. Worship in Jesus name. We are saved by Jesus. Only Jesus can save your soul. We go through Jesus to get through the father. Jesus says you must be born again. Of God's spirit. Jesus is our Lord and savior.

1 John 5:7 was added by the Catholic Church in the 1,600s. That's the only scripture saying they are one. While thousands of other scriptures prove they are all different. The holy spirit is Gods active force...not a 3rd god. No where in the Bible will you see "God the Son" or "God the Holy Ghost". No where in the Bible does it say to worship Jesus. We pray to God, in Jesus' name because Jesus is the bridge or new avenue to God. Think about it...who was Jesus praying to? No where in the Bible does it say Jesus was 100% man, 100% divine...but different at different times. The trinity is soo complicated and complex because they made up rules for it to "make sense". Truth is simple... John 20:17 Jesus said to her: “Stop clinging to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father and to my God and your God.’” Jesus has a God...because he is the Son. The son isn't the father. No where in the Bible does Jesus or a scripute say the Son is the Father or the Son is God incarnate.

Your words can't be found in the book of Acts or in any epistle, no Apostle explicitly taught the trinity nor do we find ONE epistle that encourages pastors and teachers to teach it either.

"The Father and I are one!" "If you see Me, you see the Father!" "Don't you believe that the Father is IN Me?" "ALL (!) AUTHORITY in heaven and earth has been given to Me!". (Only God has all authority). At healing the paralytic: "Your sins have been forgiven you!" (Only God can forgive sins). "I am THE (not a) light of the world". ...God. "I have come to give you Zoë =divine life in abundance". (Only God can give Zoë life). Etc, etc. Conclusion of Paul after having revelation: "Jesus, the exact image of the invisible God. The fullness of deity dwells in Jesus bodily". John (who had seen, touched, heard Jesus): "the invisible God manifested in human form, in Christ". Thomas having revelation saying to Jesus: "My Lord and My God!". Jesus being God did NOT correct Him. Etc, etc, etc. And of course His life totally proves He is God in human form. Begotten by the Spirit of God, filled with the spirit of God, healing all, raising the dead, casting out demons, controlling nature, raised from the dead, pouring out His Spirit for us to be indwelled by to be empowered to heal the sick and cast out demons, etc, etc, etc. Hence the divine healing miracles and casting out of demons i experienced already thousands of times and many others too. Way to much to degrade Him to "just a prophet". Some unfortunately never understood God's resolve for mankind's fall and wrote an other story leading millions astray. Heartbreaking. What lots of people (even pastors) don't (yet) understand. For the fall of man a perfect atoning sacrifice had to be made.... that is what God did in Christ. He paid the debt for the fall of man for us to be indwelled by His Spirit again and finally receive the divine life of the ages back, the first Adam let got of in the fall of man. That is what you see happening in Christ's first disciples. They too healed all. And yes.... that is still avaible today. The holy blood is in place, the Holy Spirit is here to give us understanding and transform us back to origin. Not to be debated about, but to be embraced and be-come. So: The Kingdom of God already came. Through Christ, in Spiritform, in those that understand. Hence the divine healing miracles we experience. God manifested in Christ to give us back the divine life mankind lost in the fall of Adam. Christ, the exact image of the invisible God. The image we were created after in Gen 1. The image we lost in the fall of man. The image that can be freely restored by Christ's blood and Holy Spirit working IN us. What a plan. What a solution. What a love. What a God. Jesus is amazing. It is the ultimate conclusion of the word and plan of God. God came full circle. He Himself stooped down from glory to restore us back to original created value: Christlikeness. Walking in divine healing power and unselfish love. Jesus, born of the Spirit of God, filled with the spirit of God. The "Son" of God, the incarnated word, God in the flesh. For three years He healed all, raised the dead, casted out demons, controlled nature, spoke pure divine truth. He said: "Follow Me. If you see Me, you see the Father. The Father and I are one. The glory I have IN My Father, I give to you. It pleases the Father to give you His Kingdom/Holy Spirit/divine nature. I will send Holy Spirit, the same as Me, He will be IN you, guide you into truth and give you explosive power. The same miracles i do, you will do too, because you will understand that the Father is IN Me and I am IN you. Freely I give you My Kingdom/Holy Spirit/divine nature, heal the sick, raise the dead, cast out demons, freely I give, freely share" Etc, etc, etc. I have experienced thousands of beautifull healing miracles through the power of Holy Spirit IN me already. Broken bones, cancers, covid, all kinds of infirmities healed in seconds. Demons manifesting and casted out by a simple "get out, in Jesus name". Jesus. De name above all names. In Him all power and wisdom is sourced and.... He calls us one with Him. God in man and man in God again. C'mon Jesus!! So.... again: God stooped down IN Christ to restore us back to Gen 1:27 were He said: "Let us make man according to our image and likeness and let them have authority.....": walk as Christ. Christ, the exact image of the invisible God. The image we were created after and being restored to by His atoning blood for the fall of man and indwelling Holy Spirit. You are free to receive this original divine life of the ages by Holy Spirit of Christ/God. Ask Him to guide you into truth. Read the Gospel of John and fall in love with your creator. You are not made for the fall of man and its effects, but for the image/glory of God and to walk like Christ. Holy Spirit is the guide and transforming power that will get you there. Amazing grace. A big leap in faith can be made when we start realizing we are already IN Christ, IN the last Adam. Free from the fall! Loved! Growing into awareness of our new (yet old) godly identity. Changing by Holy Spirit. The most fullfilled life ever. Paul healed all on Malta. He understood and wrote: "As in the first Adam ALL died (lost the divine nature), so also ALL were made alive IN Christ to walk in Zoë (= divine life) again". "IN Christ (the last Adam) we are co-cruisified (dead to the fall and its effects), co-raised (justified/made righteousness, holy, blameless, above reproach), co-seated (one with Him)" "The fullness of deity dwells in Christ and YOU HAVE BEEN MADE COMPLETE IN HIM, who is the head of every principality and power". So.... thank you Jesus! Thank you for redeeming me from the fall of man. Thank you for your Holy Spirit that makes this new (yet old) divine life come alive in me. You are amazing! In the shadow of Peter the sick healed... He understood too and wrote: "By Gods power (Holy Spirit) and knowing Christ, we have become partakers of the divine nature and have escaped the fall of man". The divine life of the ages has been returned to us by Jesus once and for all perfect atoning sacrifice for the debt of the fall of man and His indwelling Holy Spirit in us. Jesus/God is amazing!!! Ask Him to give you revelation and change you to the way it was before the fall of man: Christlikeness. He will do so. For it is written: "the Spirit brings forth after His own kind". "I have come to give you Zoë (divine life) in abundance...."

Jesus Christ is not God. The doctrine of the Trinity is a false doctrine from the Roman Catholics. There is no such teachings in the Bible where it said God is three persons in one being. The Bible never said God is God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Jesus and the Bible taught that there is only one true God, the Father and Jesus Christ whom he sent. Jesus always said he was the Son of God and the Son of man. He also said he was the messiah. He never said he was God the Son or the Godman. The Bible never said there are two true Gods, the Father and Jesus Christ. Jesus did not have his own powers. All power and authority were given to Jesus Christ by God to perform all kinds of miracles and to forgive sins on earth when he was alive on earth. God created his only begotten human Son in the virgin Mary through God's holy spirit. God created Jesus Christ and made him his Son. So Jesus Christ is the Son of God. But he is not God the Son or the Godman. God is a Spirit. God is not human like Jesus with flesh, bones, and blood. God can never die but Jesus Christ died. God raised Jesus from the dead. Jesus Christ never raised himself from the dead. Jesus Christ is not God because he didn't know the day or the hour he was coming back. After Jesus Christ was raised from the dead by God, Jesus was still in human flesh and human form but in a glorified and immortal body right now. Jesus Christ is the perfect human created by God without sins. So he is the perfect image and characteristic of God without sins, the perfect lamb of God to be able to atone for our sins on the cross once and for all. Jesus was so obedient and did his Father's will to the point of death on the cross for our sins that after his resurrection, God appointed Jesus to sit at his right hand. God also appointed Jesus to be the judge of the world at the end time. When Jesus spoke that the Father and I are one and that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, this doesn't mean that Jesus Christ is also God. What Jesus meant here in this passage was that he and the Father are one unity, in one accord, they share the same goal, same mind, same teachings, and they share the same love. For example, if I say that you and I are one. It is just a symbolic metaphor or just a figure of speech. It is not that we are one person. We are one in that we are in unity with one accord, we share the same characteristics, same teaching, think the same, share the same goal, etc. God his Father was always in Jesus when he was created. God's spirit was always in Jesus. Jesus did God's work and carried out God's will to the end of his life on the cross. Jesus said if you see me you see the Father. Jesus did the work of his Father who sent him to do. Jesus said I could do nothing on my own but the Father in me does the work. He said the words that I spoke and preach are not of my own but from the mouth of God himself who told me what to say. Jesus Christ said that my Father in heaven is always working even on the Sabbath day and I am too are working. So when you see Jesus, you see the Father that is in him. After Jesus disciple, doubting Thomas finally witnessed Jesus's resurrection and touched his wounds himself, he said to Jesus " My Lord and my God. In this passage, the Trinitarians used it as a definitive proof that Jesus is God, because Jesus didn't refute or rebuke Thomas's saying. This passage is a misinterpretation of what Thomas said to Jesus. Thomas didn't say Jesus is God here. At the last supper before Jesus's crucifixion, Jesus taught the disciples that he and the Father are one and that he was in the Father and that the Father was in him. Jesus taught that the Father was in him that did the work. So when Thomas witnessed Jesus's resurrection from the dead, he called Jesus "My Lord and My God meaning that God was in Jesus. God did the work in Jesus by raising him from the dead. Jesus is not equal to God. Jesus said the Father is greater than I. Jesus said he was a man appointed by God. The Bible teaches that Jesus was made lower than the angels. So Jesus Christ was created, he never prexisted himself. He was prexisted in God's mind and God's plan to save man from sins. God made his plan revealed when he made his word known in the man Jesus, who became a human flesh to come to earth to die on the cross for our sins. After Jesus's resurrection, Jesus Christ was given higher authority and power over the angels and that there is no other name under heaven and earth whereby we are saved.

@@hellisalie1138 I am very glad you came out of the false teachings on the doctrine of the Trinity from the corrupt Roman Catholics brought about during the 4th century with the counsel of Nicea and during Constantine's reign and gradually refined and developed this concept and belief to this day. The doctrine of the Trinity believers should be heretics because they are deceiving pastors, preachers, ministers, new converts and believers in Christ and misled so many Christians all over the world to believe that Jesus Christ is God. We need to teach the only truth that God the Father is the only true God and that Jesus Christ is his begotten human Son and that Jesus is not God. Jesus Christ is the messiah and the Son of God. The early Jews believers believed in the one true God, the Father. We need to bring the original oneness believers back to the truth and condemned the Trinitarian believers as heretics. I am a new believer in Christ and I was believing in this false teachings of the doctrine of the Trinity on KZbin videos from a few ministers and pastors that taught this doctrine. I was confused about why some Bible passages seemed that Jesus claimed to be God and other passages that he only said he was a man appointed by God to do the Father's work. So I prayed a few days and asked Father God to explain to me his relationship with his Son, Jesus Christ. I also asked whether Jesus Christ is also God and whether the doctrine of the Trinity is true or false. I asked Father God to send his Holy angels and Jesus Christ to minister to me and explain clearly to me about this important topic which theologians, pastors, preachers, ministers, and different Christian denominations have been debating about and are divided and confused and lost about this topic. I told Father God that I don't want to be deceived by false teachings and confused and lost like so many Christians all over the world and have to search for the truth my whole life. After a few days of praying to Father God and asked him to explain to me and reveal the truth on this topic matter to me, God led me to some KZbin videos on the unitarian and oneness of God pastors and preachers teachings on the one true God the Father and his relationship to his Son, Jesus Christ. I thank God for answering my prayers and led me to these KZbin videos and reveal the truth to me while I am still alive and while I am still 50 years old right now and not too old to regret my life on believing in the false doctrine of the Trinity.

The early Greek translators and scribes who translated the Bible into English were mostly Trinitarian believers. So they changed some of the passages in the Bible to fit in with their belief and their understanding on the doctrine of the Trinity. For example, in Matthew 28:19, the early manuscripts have Jesus saying to his disciples " Go into all the nations and baptize in " My Name ". But the Roman Catholics changed it from the King James Bibles to our modern English translation Bible to Jesus saying go into all the nations and baptize in " The name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit ", to fit in with their concept and belief on the doctrine of the Trinity. In Acts 2:38, the Apostle Peter taught the right water baptism. He said " Repent and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins ". Because the Roman Catholics changed the original manuscript passage to baptize in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, now a lot of Christian Church denominations water baptize new converts and new believers in Christ in this false manner. Another passage in the Bible where the early translators and scribes changed from the King James Bibles to our modern English Bibles is the verse where it said " There are three that bear witness in heaven, the water and the blood and the spirit. These are in agreements". It explained that Jesus not only comes by water, but also by blood. But the early Greek scribes changed this passage to say " There are three that bear witness in heaven, the Father, the word, and the spirit. These three are one " to fit in the concept and belief on the teachings on the false doctrine of the Trinity. I believe that on some of the confusing and contradicting passages where it seemed that Jesus claimed to be God in those verses, the early Greek scribes and the Roman Catholics may have changed the original meanings to fit in with their ideology on this false doctrine. Some passages in our Bible where Jesus seemed to claim that he is God are men lack of understanding and misinterpret what Jesus spoke about. In the verse where Jesus said " Before Abraham was born, I am ". The Jews thought that Jesus is claiming to prexist Abraham and that he is claiming to be God. But the Jews misinterpret and misunderstand what Jesus spoke. What Jesus meant is that he prexisted before Abraham in God's mind and God's plan before the creation of the world. Jesus was the first born in God's mind and God's plan and foreknowledge before the creation of the world. Another passage in the Bible where the Jews and the Pharisees misinterpret and misunderstand what Jesus spoke is in the verse where Jesus said " Destroy this temple and I will raise it back up in three days ". They thought that Jesus wants to destroy the actual temple and raise it back up in three days. After Jesus's resurrection, his disciples thought back to what Jesus said on this matter. They now understood that Jesus was talking about his own body, his own temple, and that he rose from the dead after three days.
