Shouldn't Matthews have been called out for abandoning the base? I know in the gregg vs Ortiz fight the inning was ended because a red Sox runner was called out (not ejected) for abandoning the base to take part in that fight

In the Gregg vs Ortiz fight, the ball was in play and an attempted play was made from Adam Jones hence the abandonment call. If the ball was in play, Matthews could have been called out in this clip.

Honestly, I don't feel bad for diaz getting pushed. The umpires shouldn't get involved in brawls. Stand back and take note of the combatants to make accurate ejections. Remember the Sox-Yankees brawl in 2004? Bruce Froemming and his staff stayed out of the way of that and let the team handle it, and I give him props for that.

Matthews should have known that a steamer was coming. He got hit in the area with the most bark, and very little chance of injury. That's how it gets done. If it was up near his head, that's another story... but he should have just gone to first, and it would have been over with.

How can you tell this is in Boston with Boston announcers? Red Sox have the worst announcers in MLB for decades. And the players have an undeserved superior attitude. The greatest example is when David Ortiz claimed that Jim Palmer was trying to get famous off of Ortiz‘s name. Ortiz is a PED user to got into the Hall of Fame.
