I loved Games-X when i was a kid, my mum would buy me it every week when we went shopping at ASDA. I even got the Star Letter award when I wrote in and had my picture in the back (Rolling Ronnie on the front cover)

I noticed that they tended to make the graphics quite muted. I wonder if it was an attempt to make the graphics layers distinct visually, so the player knows what's background from foreground, etc. Or if it was a due to some limitation of the system. Or maybe the target display was some specific CRT of the time. Because it's quite jarring how low contrast some sprites look.

Some games managed it better than others, like Leander for example, but Psygnosis liked their games to have multiple layers of parallax scrolling and that limited the number of colours for each one

Main issue i see is the enemies are basically using the same palete as the background. Was that an amiga limitation?

It was a stylistic choice made by Psygnosis to save on colours. This game handled it better than most once you were past the first level. Puggsy is one of the worst examples. Once the A1200 came along the limited pallette wasn't an issue anymore.

I played Ork and bored preety quickly, thinking "Oh no, another Psygnosys platform collectathlon!" And there is no way that Ork is better than Turrican 3! Although Turiccan 3 is huge step down compared to Turrican 2, and way to easy, game mechanics are good and graphics are amazing while it fails in dumbed down level design. Also, Mega Twins are bette than Ork! Yes, it was lazy ST port of arcade, with many game aspects missing, that Amiga could easily handle, but still, close enough to the arcade with game mechanics intact and very playable. Mega Twins were not among best arcade games but, in those days, every kinda good arcade port had "it" factor-"Look, it is arcade at home!"

I'll go into more detail about my placements in the Superleague next week. I've actually added even more games to the list now as well. Maybe I'll revise some of the positioning too

i second this. turrican 3 worse than this? no effin way. t3 should be in the top 10 if not in the top 5.
