Very cute play with the babies and mums. And kudos to the gate people for their patience, especially when 2 of them went out and then came back in. I was shouting at them to go but they ignored me. Mrs Gold so reliable. I remember the time she went out with 2 on her belly and one clinging to her back.

Wonderful! Mrs Gold is a diamond isn't she? ❤ Such a patient, gentle soul. You guys in the team were really patient too! Releasing towards the end of the afternoon gave a lovely light on the babies with Mrs Gold - the low sun gave that bit of filming a real warmth and fine detail. Superb!

I'm watching the latest episode and I saw that Mrs. Gold had either Sofie or Grover nursing on her. That's uncommon isn't it? How is that possible?

I could be wrong but I think the babies just do it as a comfort like when they suck each other's ears. If a mom hasn't recently given birth would it have the hormones to produce milk? I think they're the same as humans in that regard but Dave will clarify your question and inform me too if I'm wrong :) Hi from Canada.

I was wondering about that as well. Especially with the very young ones. Is there ever a “nursemaid” type situation? Or do the newborns just have to use a bottle, sometimes hours after suckled on their mom pretty recently?

Fostering is uncommon, no she does not produce milk and the little one would not really know that but for comfort they are just there hanging in his face, the reason for the feeding cages and why its so important they learn to use them before going out

They patrol and keep an eye out to protect the troop but also especially at mating season to prevent other males from mating with their females.

It would seem to me that one of the more important things to make sure is correct is your gate. It is such an important part of your work and you need to replace it with a better working gate. The gate you currently have doesn’t work,scares the mom as well as the babies and other monkeys. That has to affect the result of your work because after all this time, there is questionable trust between you and the monkeys. They can’t trust you to keep the door open for their entry or exit. Please try to get new gates/door.

I’m no expert by any means. But I was just thinking. Maybe distract the outside monkeys with bananas. So that miss gold and can exit with babies easier. Just a thought.

I'm guessing that it is important for the rest of the troop to know that this baby is with Mrs Gold. If they were distracted while she left with them, they might not make that connection as quickly.

Believe you me it sometimes gets to a point you will try everything, biggest problem with that is high ranking monkeys eat first so you always end up with some at the door while others eat so you just help the rotation of door monkeys

We prefer not to as it can cause fighting at the time the babies are going out and we don't want it to be a surprise.
