Vervet Forest - Season 2 - Episode 3 - At the Vervet Monkey Foundation, a non profit animal sanctuary in South Africa two orphan baby vervet monkeys (Tommy & Maysie) play together in our intermediary enclosure called Disneyland. This episode contains a lot more footage of the babies just being babies and hanging out than the previous two. I also give you a look at what a night shift with the babies is all about.

Yay, more patrons! Maysie will be one of those babies where in a week or so you'll be talking about how amazing she's doing. You all have the patience to make that work. And Tommy, wow, he's going to have to grow into that tail. He was running like he was having a hard time controlling the strength in his back legs, lol. Tommy is a superbaby! Masie reminds me of a preemie. These two and the bush baby are really cute. I've worked noc shift for thirty years. If something goes wrong with our preemies, it's at night. We are a whole subculture of nurses! Very nice work guys. Love season two! ;)

Alaina & Maggie S Even if another female came by and took her that female would not be lactating so the baby would have no access to milk. And a mom who already has a baby most likely would not pick up another baby. Monkeys aren’t very altruistic.

I'm not sure if anyone has suggested this for you to try or not, or if it would even work. , but with k8ttens and puppies that don't take a bottle. I found myself sponge feeding, and what we did, was use those triangle shaped makeup sponge, we would start off by soak8ng up a bit of formula then putting that up to thief mouth, just squeez a bit into thier mouth then they usually latch on, its great because it forms well to the shape of the mouth, you can actually see ppl do8ng it on KZbin, and when they start drink9ng more quickly, we would put a syringe to it so we didn't have to keep taking the sponge from thief mouth. J8st thought I'd share in case u come across that again

AtomicBalm Bath 'n Body nah, we just let them drink from a bowl. It’s never really that big of a deal. Maybe I over dramatize the situation for entertainments value but there’s no need for concern or anything. We go through it every single year and every time eventually we teach the baby to drink, it’s never a consistent issue, it’s just a part of the process. A sponge would also be insanely messy, impossible to keep sterile and we’d go through hundreds of them in no time.

Be still my beating heart! They are absolutely adorable! I am curious about the statistics at the Vmf when it comes to the different situations a baby monkey came from for example: how often the babies are abandoned by the mothers? or how many are turned in by the people who found the baby, HBC or if the actual owners turned them over to the Vmf? Are they in specific categories so you can keep track of problem areas or neighborhoods? I have a hard time believing a mother vervet supposedly abondoned their baby, when vervets are typically very diligently and amazing mothers. I just wonder if the babies are being taken by higher ranking juviniles and are being abandoned by them?

Crystal and Robert Dominguez Those are all very valuable questions and I wish we had the resources to conduct those kinds of studies, but I’m not sure in the end if it would make a difference to the situation at hand. But I know we could figure out the statistics if someone wanted to sit down and make a list. Maybe go back through last season and see what the story is for each baby and start making a list and then continue it through this season lol.

Anyone know what kind of monkey that is at around the 5:00 mark? Looks a bit like a marmoset, but not exactly.. or is it a different primate altogether? AFAIK, only baboons have a snout that large, but iy's clearly not a baboon either. Also it's too small for even an infant vervet.. So, anyone know? (Edit)) Well, it seems he's a "Bush baby". That 1st baby is so tiny, we have a hard time judging actual size by the video But when the carer was trying to get the baby to eat, it's tiny head was no bigger than the carers middle finger and thumb while making an "O"

To watch tommy pet the little female then he gives her a kiss is wonderful. Tommy is going to be a great father. Iam wandering were he learned compassion? He looks so alone in the feeding cage. I once saw someone take the dropper out of a dropper bottle and puncture a hole in the lid portion used for suction. It made a great tiny bottle. Is that too big for a lesser bush monkey. It seems the same size as the syringe tip.

Sandra Hale unfortunately pacifiers are not the best option. The babies end up forming addictions to them which become very difficult to break and make it harder to introduce them to foster moms. Also pacifiers can spread disease very easily, they are expensive and we would go through them very quickly and cannot afford that. Lastly when the babies become dependent on them they end up constantly wanting to suckle, because they are formed similar to a teat the babies suckle consistently rather than holding them in their mouth like they do with their hands (less suckling) and when they suckle that much but don’t consume any milk they can give themselves constant hiccups which can cause issues or they give themselves ulcers because their stomachs expect milk but don’t receive it.
