In this video I am getting ready for Sukkot! Also called Sukkos! I explain briefly what this important Jewish holiday is and how I celebrate it as an Orthodox Jew. I also take you through a day in my Orthodox Jewish life as I prepare for the holiday of Sukkot which is part of the Jewish High Holidays. I decorate the Sukkah, prepare desserts, welcome guests and their gifts, discuss traditions around Sukkot such as sleeping in the sukkah, and get ready to light my yom tov (holiday) candles to officially bring in the holiday of Sukkot. Thank you so much for coming along for this day in my Orthodox Jewish Life!
What is Sukkot? • What is Sukkot? + Deco...
Sukkot Fun: • Sukkot 2020 Chol Hamoe...
Hello and welcome! My name is Chana, I’m married to my best friend, and we have three wonderful children together. We also happen to be Orthodox Jews and we homeschool our kids. This video is a sneak peek into our daily lives :) You can see how this particular Jewish homeschool mom sets up her days, rolls with the punches, and gets it all done. Thanks for watching!

Hello, Chana, I am glad to hear that you are doing better. It is completely understandable that you should want to have as much of a good time as possible throughout the holidays. I hope that you are having a good Sukkot so far. Chag Sameach! Also, please remember that you are never obligated to share anything with us and that if you do then it should always be in your own time. We all care about you and don't want you to go through anything hard or sad unnecessarily. As always, I hope that you and your family are keeping safe and well. Best wishes, Michael

Hi Hannah… I just wanted to chime in and say hello. I love your videos. As a non-Jew I love how welcoming and informative they are. I found you through the homeschool angle and stuck around because I just love you and your positive personality. I know very little about Jewish holidays but your sukkot prep is so familiar to me… the decorating and cooking and excitement is not unlike our family Christmas. I love seeing how alike different religions and cultures are. I wish more people could see how much more alike we all are rather than different 💙

Just a little dishwasher story, it’s just the 2 of us, takes forever to fill it. We had this house built and the builder did not offer the one with the bottom part that pulls out for small families. I don’t even think it was made then, we built this house 10 years ago and rented it knowing we would eventually be moving. I think next year we will put our dishwasher in a rental we own and buy the one that has the bottom part for small families, when everyone is here ( which has not happened in 2 years due to covid) I really miss my boys ( men) but they will always be my babies and Daughter-in-law that we love as a daughter. Have a great holiday.💜

Chag Sukkot Sameach! Paper chains, fairy lights, and sunflowers have been our favourite decorations this year. It is still quite warm here and, amazingly, has been dry all week, so we have actually managed to eat in our sukkah almost every meal. We also got the telescope out and saw Jupiter with four of its moons. Definitely one of my favourite holidays.

Hannah, thank you so much for sharing about the preparation for Sukkot. My husband and I have studied about the different Jewish feasts and holidays in a publication from The Friends of Israel so I already had an idea about Sukkot, but seeing it in your video has helped me so much. Your sukkah looks beautiful!! Love the decorations! Chabad doesn't do decorations; I forget why. I grew up with decorations. We'd make them in school for either the sukkah at the shul or we could bring them home for our family's sukkah. I miss them and, if one day I build my own sukkah, I will probably have decorations again. You chose great presents for your children! I am so glad they are enjoying them! I'm glad you and your family are okay but I'm going to continue to keep all of you in my prayers. In my heart, I still can't shake the feelings of concern. I know you want to focus on the joy of Sukkos and that's great. Sending virtual hugs and lots of love! Please don't feel pressured to share. I just wanted to say that you must be a kindred spirit, given your comment about stickers and 'who can resist them'. I hand write a lot of letters to family and pen friends in Australia and overseas and the letters and envelopes are always decorated with stickers - fun, cute, elegant, tacky, whatever my vibe for that letter. I think they bring cheer and a smile. I think that my heart would be happy too if I was going to be spending my week in such a colourful and welcoming space that my kids had helped make. Bless you all and I send my biggest Aussie hug your way.

The Sukkot looks beautiful! Your children did a wonderful job with the decorations! It’s good to see you happy and smiling 😁 I wanted to share what happened today…my husband took me to a vegan restaurant while we were out running errands. Before we left I used their restroom. To my surprise, there was a two handled picture on the sink! I smiled…because of you I knew exactly what it was. I was touched that the restaurant thought of the Jewish patrons! Be well Chana, enjoy the holiday!

Chana, I am so glad to see that you are feeling better and that your “sparkle” is back. Choosing joy always helps! I love your decorations!!! Do special and beautiful-even more so because your children made them. And the fact that your husband was so happy to see them makes them even more beautiful and special. To have a “taste of home” is always a blessing. I pray your week long holiday is full of blessings. I feel like we are a family here and we are here to support and encourage you as much as you encourage us. Also, your hair covering is absolutely beautiful!!! So elegant looking! I think it is so beautiful surrounding everything with Sukkot the meaning all of it. The children did a beautiful job with the projects they made for the Sukkot. People that live in the big cities where do they put their Sukkot? Is it traditional that the men of the household help prepare the food for the special Holidays? Your husband is always cooking for them right along beside you as you do your baking & salads,even the children help . Thank you once again Have a lovely day .
@jaroffireflies
@jaroffireflies 3 жыл бұрын
I don’t know how common it is that the men do all the cooking, probably more women do that but it’s not unusual for the men to do it :) In the city some people put the sukkah on a balcony or in a shared courtyard or in a parking space (not in a garage). They can also use the synagogue sukkah :)

Hello Chana, I am so glad to see this new video of yours, and I am also happy to know that you and your family are doing fine. Like someone has already mentioned, please don't you feel obliged to provide explanations for things that go on in your personal life, more than what you feel like sharing. You don't owe us any explanation as a matter of fact. I certainly hope that things will improve for you whatever they may be and that you will soon put whatever happened aside and instead of just choosing joy, really feel joyful again.
