She was in a dance musical in NYC. It was a small, off Broadway show. Somehow I found out about it, I don’t remember now. And I bought tickets to the show. I sat in the front row. It was a musical about the ocean. That’s pretty much all I remember. She danced in it and she had on a mermaid like costume. I was so happy to see her! I wish I would have thought to ask to go backstage to meet her but I just left after the show.

When I was a kid, like toddler age, I thought Atreyu was a girl - I have no idea why I thought that. But I always loved the name, so I named my son Atreyu who was later diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and Autism Spectrum Disorder. Fun fact, the name Atreyu can be translated as "son of all", and because we get help from medical professionals, family, and friends; he really lived up to his name. Also, when we watched NeverEnding Story with him when he was younger, his eyes lit up every time he heard his name. Priceless!

(Don't read if you don't want book spoilers!) In the book, Bastien really lives out his dreams, making many wishes. But he slowly loses his memories of his human-life as he makes wishes. Long story short, Atreyu helps Bastien return to the real world, where Bastien tells his father the whole story (including naming the Empress after his mother's nickname "Moonchild") which helps Bastien's father overcome his grief of losing his wife. So, not only is it about following your dreams, but about learning how to overcome losing loved ones, and consoling each other through that. Bittersweet, but yeah. My point is, many of the actors had to overcome many challenges after the movie, like all of us. It's that humanization of these people that make them easy for us to relate to more deeply.

Bastian was the sweet little nerdy wimplet. I felt like I had lots in common with him, but I really *wished* I could be more like Atreyu. Way braver, more confident, more selfless, and *tremendously* more athletic than poor Bastian. Took me freaking forever, and I’m no longer young, but I’m finally more balanced, having earned *some* of what made Atreyu worthy of respect, without losing who I was.

As of March 2022, Percy the Porcupine, a two-story puppet created by Jim Henson's Creature Shop for the San Diego Children's Zoo, is considered by some to be the world's largest puppet: Size: Percy weighs over a ton, has a 40-foot circumference, and is covered in 2,000 foam quills Features: Percy has an articulated nose the size of a Volkswagen, orb-like eyes, and a maw that can be moved Operation: Five performers operate Percy by pulling strings to move his features Falkor likely was the largest, but there is always a bigger fish - er... puppet!

What happened to Falcor? Hope he wasn't put down and a nice family took him in.
@CalmCaterpillar
@CalmCaterpillar 4 жыл бұрын
You can visit him at the Bavaria studios near Munich. They give tours and on those tours they invite kids to sit on Falcor in front of a green-screen, so that they can watch themselves soaring over Fantasia. And yeah, I was there and yeah, I've done that. But it was a bit disappointing for me as a kid, because it drove the point home that all of that was just fake.

He was an adorable creature indeed, he was bisexual and very promiscuous, besides he didn’t like too much to use condoms. Falcor died of AIDS in 1989 :-(

This was delightful to watch! I met Noah in passing at a comic con. He was very energetic and kind. I also worked in a few productions with a person who was an extra on this movie. What was that background music?

I saw the movie as a kid, and it shaped me for life. Then I heard that the book author Michael Ende hated it. Everyone who read the book told me the same. I never read the book, though - maybe an item to put onto the bucket list.

I read the book after seeing the movie. Loved them both. The book also includes what became Neverending Story 2 (not so loving that one; it was okay).
