i love ur voice. all jokes aside aside, this is very interesting. GJ

Great stuff! Really enjoyed the visual at 9:40 about movement in a simple straight line. The 8:00 idea of constant x movement is likely true too; it's unlikely players are going to actually stop moving horizontally on that tilted axis at any point

I have been writing with my left hand my whole life and still using my mouse with my right. So when I picked up osu I played with mouse and keyboard, after 4 months I got a tablet and I found it hard learning to press with my right hand while learning to use the tablet with left. So I chose to only learn using the tablet with my right, which means I'm playing osu with out being able to write with the hand I'm playing with.

i was in a similar situation, but i got my tablet so i could actually use my right hand to tap, and ive noticed im much better at tapping with my right

@Omar Elijah thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site through google and Im trying it out now. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.

I agree that it's not due to handwriting. I am a lefty(in writing etc) but I use my mouse on my right hand and I have always done so, had no problems with learning Osu!

I think this might be a case of input method significantly effecting the gameplay experience. I play osu with a drawing tablet, and the "three dots lined up" thing isn't very difficult for me at all; it feels comfortable, even. I think this is because, when playing by tapping against a tablet with a stylus, you're adding a z-axis. Your hand can comfortably "bounce" from one circle to the next to the next, speeding up out slowing down such that the cursor lines up with the relevant circle at the right time. The z-axis makes changing momentum in the x-y plane easier, because if your hand's movements are not parallel to the surface of the plane at all times, the natural path of the wrist will regulate the momentum of the cursor.

A Mo, can you create a video on jump mechanics? You covered a lot of material regarding flow, but I've also seen some maps that have jumps that do not follow the concepts of linear momentum as shown in this video. In addition, when receiving mods, I can recall times when someone tells me that a certain jump pattern is unrankable, when I've seen jumps using similar spacing. Can you explain this?

Keep in mind that, in my opinion anyway, linear momentum rules are important only when you consider 2 or 3 objects. For entire combos, there are a lot more things to consider as well as these linear momentum rules. But yes, I can talk about constructing jump patterns in a future video.

Re: Linearly placed notes are a bad momentum I remember playing maps that had this sort of object placement, and it didn't come out as unintuitive for me. For one, when hitting streams you don't go back and forth, and this is basically a very, very sparse stream, at least that's how it's registering in my mind. It's interesting that it's pointed out that it could be bad, and I'm wondering whether there are specific circumstances that make this pattern bad? It's certainly not as easy to play and the places where I've seen it come up are pretty much some kind of accented repetitive beats

I thought this was a bunch of gratuitiously verbose mumbo-jumbo at first, but once I understood how much of the theory I needed to make an exceptional map, the x and y axis and linear/angular momentum stuff sounded really necessary to explain the theory. Yeah, it wouldn't be too hard to grip if you took the theory more seriously and understood why it's relavant to you as a mapper at ANY level anyways. (Yes, I know that 7*3+5=26, and I did that in my head, so I DO understand math, but my problem with the way Mo said it was that I felt like it could be explained MUCH MORE simply than that, but I was totally wrong now lol.)
