Hey Ott. I'm a beginner and I have two baitcasting setups, and I've discovered that i need more when I've gotten into a bind, or when I've changed from a lake to a muddy pond. I'm ready experience and expand on different techniques. The reel and rod information is very helpful for me to start be a better bass fisherman. Ott, keep those videos coming, and thanks for sharing!

Ott, I actually thought I had commented on this the day it came out. I was in the process of upgrading my gear. I had 5 picked out that I wanted but I couldn't swing buying that many at once and was going back and forth what to cut. This video helped me dial it in correctly and purchase what I think will be the the right rods for what I could afford. My 7'2 MH crankbait rod came in today! The other two are on back order still.

Great Video! So many guys get hung up in only buying the most expensive combos out there and totally overlook these rods. I do have some more expensive rod and reel combos but to be honest except for a couple I use my Carbon Lite rod&reel combos more. They really do a good job for me and stack up well against my pricier combos.

No spinning combo - about 6.6 ft medium action - middle size reel - can have lower size/dia braid - for Ned rig - shaky head - light presentation? Could also use for trout - panfish - walleye if those are in your area

@@OttDeFoeFishing thanks Ott found 2 medium heavy rods hiding one is a 7’3” all star cranking rod and the other is a 7’ Shimano. Just need reels for them. Would the 7’ Shimano medium heavy rod be good for a spinner bait or is it too heavy?

The cranking one is a different blend of material and it makes it a more moderate action.

I noticed you had all those reels loaded with fluorocarbon line. I've tried mono and fluoro on baitcast reels but I get nothing but rats nests every time I cast or even when I just click the button to let out some line to change lures. I have no problem with braid. It stays tight on the spool. How do I get mono or fluoro to stay tight on the spool and not poof up constantly? Great video! Thanks Ott!
@jwluciano3 жыл бұрын
I have used several different brands of fluorocarbon and monofilament over the years. The best ones with low memory that tend not to poof up when casting are Seaguar Invizx fluorocarbon line and I have had good luck with the bass pro shops monofilament lines (used to be in green boxes on the shelf but now I believe they are in red boxes at bass pro shops and cabela’s for the monofilament)
@davidgonnerman29023 жыл бұрын
@@jwluciano - Thanks Joseph! I will try those.
@jwluciano3 жыл бұрын
@@davidgonnerman2902 also, be sure to hold tension on your line spool as you wind the line into your reel. If the tension is loose going onto your spool then that tends to make the line not cast out very well. The line wants to unwind into a birds nest if you don’t spool the line onto the reel tightly.
@davidgonnerman29023 жыл бұрын
@@jwluciano = Thanks. I am confident that I am spooling the line correctly with the proper tension on my baitcast reel. I used 10 lb Stren Fluorocast and it poofs up loops every single time I cast even it I keep my thumb on the spool. I will try the Seaguar brand. Is 10 lb okay or should I use 12 lb?
@jwluciano3 жыл бұрын
@@davidgonnerman2902 I throw 17 lbs or 20 lbs test personally. However, 10 lbs and 12 lbs test versions of Seaguar Invizx will lay even flatter on your spool. The only thing I found with 10 lbs and 12 lbs test Invizx is that it does not have great abrasion resistance. If you are not throwing in brush or some other gnarly structure, 10 lbs test or 12 lbs test Invizx should be fine. I have found that I can cast plenty far with 17 lbs and 20 lbs test Seaguar Invizx fluorocarbon and the heavier lbs test lines allow me to fish in heavy brush without worrying about breaking off a big bass. Hope these tips help

Off subject but what line do you use for Shad Raps? I have been using 10# braid to a 8# flouro leader. I can't seem to keep my bait from helicoptering and giving bad line twist. Thanks for the great videos!!!
@jwluciano3 жыл бұрын
I pretty much always cast my Shad raps on spinning tackle to stop that helicopter issue

@@jwluciano I am currently throwing it on a medium spinning rod.
@jwluciano3 жыл бұрын
@@fisherofmen9897 I usually have good luck casting Shad raps with spinning reels and braided line. Just make sure you have about a foot or so of line hanging off the end of the rod before you make your cast. I also try to let the rod tip load up before I come back forward with my cast. Best results for me happen when I do not try to cast too hard. Just let the rod tip help you cast and it should be good.

Coulda been timely Ott but I'm looking for finesse spinning combo. Having said that I'd like to suggest ALWAYS include links to products in the description (take a look at Tactical Bassin's youtube vids for example) when you do these kinds of things. Everyone wants quick access to specific products plus if you set up an affiliate account you can make some passive residual income (not that you need any) when people purchase these products through your links. Looking forward to you rolling out great content on this channel! Thanks Ott!
