The year was 1895... shortly after the 'hung' British election, a young cavalry subaltern named Winston Churchill was having lunch with Liberal statesman Sir William Harcourt; in his book *The World Crisis* Churchill recounts: "In the course of a conversation in which I took, I fear, none too modest a share, I asked the question, "What will happen then?" "My dear Winston," replied the old Victorian statesman, "the experiences of a long life have convinced me that nothing ever happens."

They're basically describing a post-NATO Europe, and I think that it's a possibility, but more likely that Donald Trump's administration might secede from NATO, leaving Europe largely on their own, while forging a new alliance better oriented to post-Soviet geopolitics and economics. That sort of world might look a bit more like the USA more closely aligned to, say, Poland, and Hungary, than to France, Germany, and Belgium.

@@pietrayday9915 We will see. For the past decade, the number of US taxpayers who are tired of paying for the Pax Americana for the world is growing. We have problems at home, an insurmountable debt, bail everybody else out, and nobody’s coming to bail us out if we keep doing it until we are insolvent. It’s not a hateful thing at all, it’s just an unwillingness to continue picking up most of the tab for friends who are always short when the bill comes.

Canada simply doesn't have the depth of field to compete with the US in any arena that matters geopolitically. Their only real assets are a century of friendship with the US, and abundant natural resources. Trying to fill Canada with foreigners from incompatible cultures has only weakened their position and made Canada, a Commonwealth nation with an interesting history and good people into effectively a year zero economic zone. Even if Canada re-establishes its Canadian-ness and sends the economic tourists home it will be depopulated by demographic collapse before it has a chance to truly take advantage of its resource potential.

I contend that Polievre will totally fold under Trump. Trump will be his first real "opponent" outside of Trudeau and CBC cronies. Polievre says the right things, but I'm just not sure if he has the strength to bulldoze his opposition in the case he does not win a majority. His response to Trump's Canada rhetoric felt like a great big pout. In the end, he lists a bunch of things he's going to do as PM, particularly on borders, which is exactly what Trump wants.

But if we did that, what happens to the Commonwealth? Do we just absorb the entire rest of the Anglosphere? It doesn't seem like a thing we should do, but on the other hand imagine what would happen if we did. They would all be subject to our Constitution, for one thing. And naturalizing them would be much easier than with most immigrants we get, because they already speak English and they are much closer to us culturally. Still, I kind of like the fact that they have a monarch and they do at least some things differently.

I wouldn't go so far as to say they're basically women, but I would say that it's kind of obvious that Harry keeps forgetting - or doesn't realize - that there are basically 49 US states that aren't stereotypical progressive California, in much the same way that most of the UK isn't (yet) Turkish Barber Street, London. Hollywood California, Washington DC, Portland Oregon, and Silicon Valley might have a bottomless appetite for pronouns and LGBTQUIA2S++MAP+LATINX+BIPOC intersectional politics, in much the same way that parts of the UK now have a bottomless appetite for Gruming Gangs and noncery, but most of the USA and the UK are - even now - still a different story. Urban California is like an utterly foreign country to most of the rest of the USA - and to most of the rest of California, for that matter. Bo I think overestimates Russia's ability to be a world hegemon and project power. Nukes and submarines are expensive and require a lot of highly specialized maintenance, russia's economy and manufacturing base simply can't keep up with them. Russia can't even really manage its carriers as seen with the ever decreasing status of the Kuznetsov. What Russia does have is raw materials, oil, gas, etc and so while it lacks the capabilities to be a hegemon on its own, it could easily be the kingmaker for a hegemon like China or India by pumping their manufacturing sector full of cheap lumber, ore, and petroleum.

Russia's biggest self-imposed obstacle, I would suggest, would be its own post-Soviet corruption and inability to work as a coherent team with itself. Russia: "Hey Ivan, where's that Deluxe Hegemony I ordered last year? I know I put it in storage for a rainy day, but I can't find any Hegemony anywhere now!" Ivan: "Yeah, well about that? See, we ordered a Deluxe Hegemony, but the manufacturer charged us triple but delivered a mid-tier Hegemony instead, and then the Russian Mafia sold it to the Chinese and left a cut-rate knock-off hegemony-light in its place." Russia: "Well, where is the hegemony-light, then? We need that hegemony, NOW! Boris, where's that hegemony?" Boris: "I heard from my brother-in-law, who heard from his cousin, who heard from his barber, who heard from some hobo known only as Happy Igor that our generals all had a little too much vodka one night while playing strip poker, and one of them lost a bet, and took that hegemony out on the town on a dare, and brought it back broken, smelling like cigars and wet bear, and stripped of any valuable parts, so we sent it in for a new paint job and some cardboard patches to hide the rough edges, and we're currently waiting on a fifth-generation cedar-tree-shaped air freshener to be delivered by Amazon dotcom but it's on back-order and isn't expected to arrive until 2060, and then only if we send the remaining seven installment payments of fourty-nine-thousand-ninety-nine rubles!" Russia: "But I've already checked the shop, THERE IS NO HEGEMONY ANYWHERE! Where's our hegemony? Mikhael, you're in charge of our hegemony repair shop, where is it?" Mikhael: "The shop?" Russia: "NO! The hegem.... wait, what do you mean, 'the shop'?" Mikhael: "We can't find the shop, either - the latest report is that the DIA smuggled the shop out of the country five years ago before the hegemony ever arrived, and the shop was last scene being used as the set for a gay corn movie starring the US Senate. We think the hegemony was left on the side of the road somewhere in Siberia when the driver got lost looking for a hegemony warehouse to store it at, but we're not completely sure.who the driver was, where the road is, or whether we even have a hegemony warehouse." Russia: "How soon can we find a replacement hegemony????" Uri: "Best we can do is three T-34s, thousand Soviet-era BMPs on loan from North Korea, and a former KGB operative's wife named Olga who is rumored to be almost as good as a mid-tier hegemony! We think the mob can get you the BMPs by this weekend, and Olga should be free by mid-September, but those T-34s might be a real problem, we think they were probably stolen by some farmers in Smolensk and sold as either farm tractors, snow plows, or moonshine stills, we're not entirely sure which...."

J6 protestors will be pardoned, but Enrique Tarrio and some others won't be 6. Trump will still be alive at the end of the year 7. The Liberals beating the NDP for second place by less than 5 points in the popular vote

I’d be happy if Trump deported half of them. In reality I don’t think he can deport 15 to 20 million in 4 years. On the bright side Trump can lay down the blueprint for his predecessor.

Canadian elections are not run by popular vote. The Liberals probably will get a bigger vote share than the NDP, even if they get less seats. It’s a winner take all system (First Past the Post) for each riding. So if in a riding the Cons get 10k votes and Liberals get 9.8k and the NDP get 4k, the Cons get the seat and the other 2 get nothing. The vote totals are also entirely irrelevant as they aren’t added up to figure who got the most votes in a province.

@joaocherrydon9413 True. I have no clue what to predict for seat totals, though. I'm just confident that the Conservatives will get an outright majority.

Oh Harry. You do know that by ancestry and the numbers America is more Anglo than the UK, right? And certainly more British once you add up all the Celts.

Strangely enough, the Welsh, Irish and Scots are less "Celtic" than the south of England. Look to Caesar, who defined such things, and celts were the people from southern Gaul and trans alpine Gaul. The first record of the Irish, Scots and WElsh etc being celts was by one of QUeen Elizabeth I's courtiers in 1574. Obviously, he hadn't been flogged enough at school!

Until now I really rated these Lotus guys… but their analysis on a lot of this is a bit uninformed. The Christian Right see God saving Trump from death at Butler Pa. They prayed for him and God delivered his Pres. Not an issue.
