I was a horrible student early on and then excelled through college and PhD. Many, many doctors have a similar history. They were bored in school, non-conformists, or very smart and in classes with low level work, so they did poorly.

This is so inspiring hearing from you guys that not everyone has to be born 100 percent perfect or intelligent in order to become a successful healthcare professional someday. It's relieving to hear other healthcare professionals be transparent about their lives and their past knowing they too had theirs flaws and no one is perfect. I have low-self esteem and self-confidence issues that I am actively working on to rectify. I usually deter away from speaking about myself and my past in order to show people I am not much of a failure even though I know I could be at times; I am just ashamed of myself sometimes. In my mind being a failure means being a defeated loser in life which just crushes me emotionally. I too got Cs, Ds, Fs in grade, middle and high school. I started taking community college and university more seriously putting in the hard work and determination and as a result I got A's and B's. As someone who is a paraprofessional working my way up in school to become a successful healthcare professional, you guys give me hope, inspiration and motivation to change my life for the better!

As an athlete in high school, I didn’t focus much on my grades. I had a C average and then struggled with the college entry tests. My mother got me a tutor so I could get the score I needed to be recruited to colleges for my athletic ability. I remember the college career guy at my HS being so down on me. It really was completely unnecessary. He told my mom that I would be lucky to even get out of college with a degree. I ended up getting a B average in my undergraduate studies, I LOVED my classes and earned two degrees. To think that one man was so down on me, a high school student, still bugs me to this day. I am glad my parents continued to support me and I was the first in my family to earn an undergraduate degree. So glad they had my back and that I believed in myself. I still had tough classes but my mom just said, “C’s get degrees!” And I kept pushing myself along. Thank you for sharing your stories. Everyone has a different journey and life isn’t defined by test scores.

I tested out of English, but math was a huge struggle. I took math while working full-time overnight and I didn’t sleep. It cost a lot of money. Originally, my parents were paying for school and I worked part-time in the afternoons and lived at home. I definitely wish it went better like 10 years prior, but everything happens how it’s supposed to. It happened for a reason.

In high school I aimed for barely passing lol!! C- was an accomplishment for me and at the time I thought I was “stupid” but in reality, I just didn’t try or waste time or put effort into things I wasn’t interested in and highschool was that for me (as I realized at a later date) I left highschool pursuing entrepreneurship and almost 10 years of putting in the hard work it has paid off! If my teachers saw me now, they wouldn’t be able to recognize me because I was never the kid anyone would ever expect to look like or have a future that was “successful”. The bottom line: I just needed to tap into my passion, hone in on that one thing and go all in, give it my best shot, work hard and stay consistent. But most importantly, love what you do. When I found what I loved to do , my passion became an obsession where I was excited to wake up everyday plugging away at all my goals and dreams ❤️

Amazing story about your backgrounds. So interesting and inspirational. Thanks for sharing. The road to personal “success” can be very winding. Some of the best medical and allied health professionals I know took non-traditional paths to get to where they are. More schools, colleges, universities and advanced degrees in Australia are throwing out the IQ, aptitude, GMAT type tests in favour of more balanced assessment of candidates. There seems to be increased recognition that testing well in high school doesn’t always equate to training the next generation of top quality professionals in a given field. Interesting channel, love evidence based content. Loathe the resources pumped into things that are harmful and don’t work - imagine what we could achieve if we redirected those funds!

Nice that they shared their histories. However, times have changed since they went to med school (DO schools). Back then, DO schools allowed “grade replacement,” and that may have saved their GPAs as undergrads. Now, every grade counts. So if you get an F in a class, and then retake it and get a C, then all med schools will average the two grades ....meaning “C”. Ugh.

Hi Dr. Shah. I know it probably isn’t good to try to ask for medical advice online. But I have TriCare and my doctor refused me a referral to see a dermatologist because he doesn’t believe I have any reason to. For about 8 years now, On the back of my neck, I’ve had a rough patch of skin that sometimes flares up and spreads onto the sides of my neck and scalp. I often have bad dandruff and sometimes my face will have flare ups and will have patches of red, dry skin all over it. He says it’s just dermatitis but I don’t know If I should believe that because he refuses to look at my neck and scalp even though I try to show him. I suspect psoriasis because I also get red patches on my body when I get strep throat, that seems to be stress induced psoriasis. Ive used ketoconazole with little to no success and use triamcinolone cream when my neck begins to flare up and burn. Without a referral, I can’t afford to see a dermatologist to verify his diagnosis and I need some advice on skin care for my constantly dry skin and I get hormonal acne on my chin :( thank you so much for all your videos.

I jst saw all the instagram videos and the remedies shared by a doctor are valuable and important in my opinion. I am an Indian and would highly request to share some skincare products for oily acne prone skin, which are available in India. Lots of love and may ur chanel grow to 1M and above...love love ❤️❤️💗💖💝🥰🥰💞♥️💓

*sigh* ...I'm kind of the opposite story, lol. I was a student with straight As who decided to go to college for Visual Arts instead of something more in the realm of "academia". I'm still very personally "nerdy" and research things constantly (yay for internet rabbit holes 🤣)... But the lack of direction you tend to have when graduating high school doing well with "everything"... Well, it kinda left me wandering aimlessly with endless intellectual stimulation, but really feeling like I missed out on a lot of potential success and focus. Jack of all trades, master of none. 🙃 Anywho, these fellas seem like they're probably quite fun in their real lives, behind the curtain of KZbin. Usually I'm only on a channel for the informational content, but I'd be interested to see a couple more of these videos where they mention a bit about their own lives. 😏😊
