Middle School English Teacher in the States here: The kids do have a sense of irony when it comes to Brain Rot vocabulary and slang. However, like you mentioned with Joey's dabbing, the more they use it, the more it gets sprinkled into their day to day speech. Moreover, the blurred line of slang vs. meme references is quite prominent. My 8th grade class explore the slang used in The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton, and compare it to their slang. A large part of modern slang is more reference influenced. That being said, I still take up the torch of the mid-30's teacher who uses their slang to the point where they cringe. Tbh I gyatt to do it otherwise I'll end up being sent to Ohio, deep within the Skibidi Dimension.

To be fair to Connor's rant about Daidus, the man has recently lost some weight and is in a new country, a country that even skinny westerners sometimes have trouble finding things that fit. I can understand him not being sure what will work and wanting to try on multiple sizes of an item.

@@Lord_Marquaad It was pants that Connor was talking about but either way, that's not a great guage for confidently testing clothes. Something may look like it fits when you hold it up to your body but then you might find something isn't right, such as the sleeve length (especially the way a shirt fits under the armpits) or the inseam of pants. I suppose if you've bought from a brand before and know their sizing, this isn't necessary. Or if the item has some stretch, you could probably get away with not trying it on. For me, I shop only once every five or so years, so I definitely would want to ensure things fit so that I'm not buying thinking I'm the same size as years prior 😅

On the topic of “slang that became just a word” - I think one of the best examples is “selfie”. I remember vividly the time in early 2010 when it was a “hipster-word” and in time just became common word.
@Lyriazix
@Lyriazix 2 ай бұрын
Not only that but infamous words tend to be buried deep after their overuse. I couldn't even remember that YOLO was that infamous back then. Selfie on the other hand was a sleeper hit so it became a common word. So Skibidi and other mote infamous brainrot words will disappear before the decade ends.

Regarding the MHA dub, people were complaining but its pretty accurate to camies character. In the japanese she's supposed to speak in very cringe slang and other characters are often seen not understanding her because of it. So while to us, seeing that dub line is cringe, to the japanese, seeing the japanese version is also cringe, its just not cringe to the english speaking audience watching sub because they dont understand the gyaru slang in the first place. The gyaru slang can't really be directly translated into english, so the brainrot ends up getting the point across pretty accurately.

went to the opening of NONSENSE in Shibuya with my brother, saw Mudan and Joey and took a pic with them! was such a fun shopping trip, would definitely buy more clothes if given another chance! Also as an introvert it took all of my willpower to keep asking the clerk for sizes since it was so busy at Day 1 (you can imagine the immense anxiety I had asking Joey and Mudan for a pic). Thanks for the pic Joey! Wish you all the success in this venture! P.S JP Karen had poor taste, Aki shirt is goat (also the Cyberpunk Corpo Jacket)

I didn't even notice most of the boof animation in ep 2 til people started raving online about it. It deff was a drop from episode 1 but i still really enjoyed it, it was really goofy at points but that's how Junji Ito's work is most of the time anyway lets be real 😂 people deff have the right to complain though with it being only 4 episodes, im still hoping the other 2 end things strong

1:24:00 Not a teacher, but a camp counselor for 8-13 year olds (I’m mid-20s Gen Z myself). I really think Garnt has it the most right about how kids use and make up brainrot slang. They absolutely do think they’re using the slang ironically a lot of the time, but enjoy repeating the memes like everyone else does. Plenty of kids would even self-describe as “irony-poisoned”. They might not be able to give a good definition of the term, but they’re definitely mostly aware of its implications.

people obsess about age way too much. it actually makes people have worse lives because they think "oh, I'm this age now, I can't enjoy this stuff I like and I have to dress like a tool" when actually you could just...go on living your life and enjoying it to the fullest. obviously changes if you have kids or a family or w/e but people take it way too far in terms of self-censoring

Happy late birthday Joey. Hope you had a great day with family and friends. Entering 30 already being big on social media for years and having a big developed brand in your t-shirt company as well as the psychical stores you were able to open recently is something to celebrate as well. Happy late birthday again and congrats on your successes.

26:00 Regarding the shoes, my life got so much easier once I finally got down and measured my foot size in centimeters and then just looked for shoes that have the size conversion chart with cm sizes mapped to whatever numbers they are using. After that its just the width that is the questionable part, but I typically go for shoes with wide toe box so I don't have to worry about it.
