It’s a familiar story. Land Rover have always been drivers of innovation & new technologies. Unfortunately that means that it’s common for those things to go wrong. Haha - I'm British - I had a choice between a Range Rover Sport and a X5 3.0sd 08 reg on 55k. My mechanic loves Land Rovers. Shop full of Range Rovers. Instinctively I chose the USA made X5. 115k later apart from having the injectors cleaned, couple of suspension bits, headlight that started misting over and a couple of air bags at the back. She still starts on the button and has never let me down. Sadly it's not a proper Land Rover not being made in the UK. I just have to share my one Land Rover story. I am on a helicopter fire crew in California and I work 12 days on and 2 days off. On my 2 days off my relief driver brought me a rental Land Rover Discovery. He was given this vehicle because it was all that was left on the lot. Now, I am well aware of the reputation of Land Rover vehicles but I thought "How bad could they be?" . Even just driving away the first time, it didn't run right. It had an odd hesitation among other weird idiosyncrasies. The next day I had to make a drive to San Bernardino for an appointment. On the way back home, on the freeway, the vehicle started slowing down. It was only doing 45 miles an hour when I finally made it off the freeway and to a gas station. I filed it with premium to see if the cheaper gas had been the problem. I was now able to keep up with traffic for some reason but the engine would have a loud knock occasionally that would go away if I shifted manually rather than having it in automatic. Then, I decided to drive out to another place on the way home when, 4 miles from the nearest gas station all hell broke loose on the dashboard with red lights flashing and messages saying I was critically low on oil and the vehicle lost power. I had checked the oil when I filled it, it was full. The POS finally shut down and I coasted off the road in the middle of the desert. Multiple calls to the "Enterprising" road side assistance were made, assuring me that tow trucks were on the way. 4 hours later I finally called an Uber and left that pile of garbage on the side of the road with the keys in it. That was 8:00 in the evening. A tow truck did not arrive at the vehicle until 10:00 am the next morning, despite how many times I had been told a tow truck was on the way. . In the end we were told by the rental company the Discovery had suffered an issue with the keys?! NEVER AGAIN! Avoid Land Rovers like the plague and NEVER trust a rental car company's roadside assistance.

they're trying really hard to take back their "most unreliable car brand" title back from Tesla...
@almac92033 жыл бұрын
Land Rover is known for electrical and mechanical problems whereas Tesla drivetrain is good but the fit and finish is garbage and bodywork sometimes drops off whilst driving. Land Rover does have nice coffee and biscuits at the dealership so that's a win I guess.

@@almac9203 dude there is tones of stories about Teslas going up in flames due to the battery not seal as it should be, but all of this is small potatoes when it comes to the issues these 2car manufactures have... at this point i will NEVER buy a from either Tesla or Land Rover.. the funny part is that both of these car brands have they own fanboys that would tell you that these cars/suvs is super reliable and that they took their own on a trip and it never broke down blab blab blab...

@@dunhillsupramk3 I have met Tesla fanboys and I know they are the worse. I would sooner hang out with vegans. A Tesla fan blamed a driver for driving in heavy rain when his 2019 Tesla lost its bumper. The Tesla fan described it as a hurricane despite the footage showing Fords and Toyotas driving through the same rain.

@@dunhillsupramk3 as somebody who considers buying a tesla in a few years, but definitely not a fanboy (have been called a troll in their pages just for asking or stating some facts...) tesla's problem with bettery fires is minescule at this point, to the point if i remember correctly from a study, bmw has more fires per car sold than tesla (compared to tesla's latest cars (i think from 2016 onwards...). It most definitely didnt help tesla all the news cycles about them when there was a single fire it stayed in the news for a long time while the rest carmakers almost arent even named in similar cases... On the quaity control on cosmetcis and on the gaps and fit and finish they are still terrible even though they suposedly fixed some stuff.. but definitely not get a tesla if that will annoy you... I drive na old audi atm and i relly dont care much that my drivers door is hanging a centimeter lower than the rest panels around it... so i think i might just look over that fact if i go for a tesla. But their mechanical work is great. Drivetrain is just great on the later models (there were again problems with some versions, but even those needed replacing the motor for example after 150k miles which isnt terrible (but still bad). On the other hand all of my experience with rovers (through friends) was that they are extremely nice to sit in or look at, but when sth breaks u got to pay your ass off just to do the same in 3 weeks for the same problem...

The reason TFL didn’t have any serious issues with their two previous Land Rovers is because back then, the older models were more reliable. Of course, things have changed since the 2000s.

It seems to be really hit and miss with LR. I had a Disco 3 that was an absolute money pit, just one expensive thing after another going wrong. Friend of mine had one, no major issues in over 100K miles of driving. He got a new one just before they ended production and that's giving him endless problems.

@Clavinovaman3 жыл бұрын
Why? Toyotas are not especially reliable. One of the latest dependability study, suggests Toyota (as a brand) suffers 136 faults per 100 cars (2019) with Land Rover at a (not much worse) 142.

@@Clavinovaman not sure i agree, i mean look at the UN, and all the less agreeable factions in Africa and the middle east, they all drive the Landcruiser, my experience with the 80 series Landcruiser compared to my Landrover Vogue means i would pick the Toyota every time
@Clavinovaman3 жыл бұрын
@@dixinormous8539 Well. that was based on 400,000 cars. Its not a question of agreeing or not as those are faults recorded. And this study is different to many of the myriad surveys that assess opinion. This is the faults recorded. Interestingly, the previous years study, shows Toyota with 109 faults per 100 cars, with Land Rover at 169. Toyota's in the last 18 months have shown a notable increase in recorded faults. Look forward to the 2020 study at the end of the year and my instinct is that Toyota will record a similar fault record to 2019. But. many congratulations that yours is fault free.

I don't get the point of the defender, originally it's appeal was that it was a basic go anywhere 4x4, and could be maintained cheaply and easily, hence why a lot of farmers had them. But this one is loaded with gadgets and tech, so who is it aimed at, certainly not farmers and the like. It's basically another luxury SUV from land rover.
