Owned 4 Land Rover products over the years (Range Rover, Disco, Defender, and Range Rover Sport), not one problem. Owned multiple Mercedes that had multiple issues. Owned a Toyota that blew a head gasket. I guess some of it comes down to luck of the draw. Best to own anything new today with a warranty (more tech comes with many more potential issues).

I don't know newer cars but I own a 2002 Toyota and a 2007 Land Rover. Most Land Rovers actually have very reliable engine and drivetrain etc. But there's no comparison on the little things. Basically everything plastic in the LR has been mended or replaced. The design is often comically bad.

may I ask which toyota blew the head gasket? Was it Tundra.... at 200k miles? I have not heard of such issue on toyota/lexus trucks/body-on-frame SUVs with a mileage below 150k unless they were extremely abused and lacked proper maintenance.

I’m selling my 2020 LR defender. In the last 6 months it’s been in the shop 3 times. Several days for each repair. Gorgeous vehicle but painful to own. Can’t wait for something else more reliable. The steering failure is downright dangerous. Another time we had a full engine shutdown that left us stranded on the side of a highway at night. The landriver defender 110 from the 90s and early 2thoudands are the real defender s these new defender s are not built like the older ones and cannot take an extreme off road beating like the older models that were built for extreme hostile conditions. This is why the older defender s still hold their value and are super expensive to maintain wich is why alot of guys switched to Toyota land cruiser or other off road brands.

My wife’s supercharged Range Rover Sport has been rock solid. Zero issues from new to 80k miles. While i do sympathize with the OP, i bet 95% of the people complaining online about reliability have probably never owned them. I think it is the worst excuse to sell. Those are small things and was sorted out. All other negative comments here are just people who never owned a LR. As a family we have driven LR since 1993. So far 25 to date and counting including first edition 110 D240 no issues and still going. I myself drive a 110 D300 HSE and are just as happy as can be. But still selling the best version LR because of two small mechanical issues that was sorted and you having just the best service from LR is honestly is not a reason to let it go. They really do go above and beyond for the product and customers. Happy LR owner from South Africa

In my opinion, the trade-in value alone makes keeping it for at least another year or two the best option financially, assuming you can afford it in the first place. Besides, once everything is fixed under warranty, it might be pretty reliable, and if it isn't, you can still trade it later.

I have a Jaguar and the warranty/service side has been amazing. People don't realize how generous they are, and that the warranty period also covers routine maintenance. Regular service is covered, and it's not a lease. My F-Pace has only had a couple little quirks (low coolant warning and a sporadic check engine light) that the dealer addressed and explained immediately. QC seems the be JLR's weakest link but they still blow all the US manufacturers away in every aspect, especially when you consider companies like GM and Ford seem to think Explorer's and Tahoe's warrant the same price point as Range Rover's.

I worked at a Land Rover dealer. The amount of catastrophic failures we saw in low mileage and well care for vehicles was shocking. At 60k their suspensions are wasted, electrical failures, coolant leaks. We rarely saw one exceed 150k miles even with every bit of maintenance done. What was hilarious was how many came off the trailer brand new with major problems. That’s what happens when you buy a British built India owned vehicle.

When a Land Rover / Range Rover owners post comments here that they never had any issues, that's a complete BS. There were known issues but owners tend to lie about it or have amnesia for some reason. It's better to share your true story that the warranty will cover the engine light, brake calipers, engine oil leak, etc., and not just be an ambassador of the brand. Bottomline is LR//RR are good looking and cool cars,, hands down, and offers social status, and that's what the brand is good at. I might get a used one by the way, because it looks cool. =D

Well, this proves LR is built for on-road and not off-road purpose. I wonder what would happen, if you drive this thing 80% offroad like many 4runner owners do. Coolant lines issues... steering... after on-road driving in 1 year old "off-road" vehicle???? Do you think you would be just fine, if this car was used like 4runner? My wife used to drive RR Sport (back in 2006). The drivetrain was not problematic and I think because it came from BMW, but the electrical part of that car is another story. It was so bad that it made me hate this car. The design wise they are hard not to like, but for those looking for reliability and use for purpose this thing is off the list.

I love the looks of the Defender and thought about getting one... but depreciation, cost of services, overall reliability issues... I just could not do it. But man does it look amazing. Specially in the configuration (with the options) that you got. Your wife is making the smart decision. Best to bite the bullet and get rid of it now. Looking forward to seeing what she gets next.

I like your review . I had a brand new defender 2023 I ordered . I had a few issues like yours within a month . It was an embarrassing situation and I could not drive my car. I spent almost 100K and could not drive it . they fixed the problems . Why are you not mentioning ? Defender is not a reliable car . You are not getting paid from land rover I guess. I traded my car quickly . be bold since you are not getting paid from them . sometimes people rely on your reviews.

I'll be dipped in shit before I'd be willing to eat a $30,000 loss on a single year of ownership for any vehicle. I'd drive that thing until the damn wheels fell off before I'd even consider taking that big of a bath. That's like renting a car for $2,500 a month, on top of having to fill it with gas and insure it.

I can not fathom why anybody wastes their money on anything that Land Rover currently builds. Sure, great cars when working, but how long does that last. Awful reliability, lacklustre dealership support, horrifically expensive parts, painful owner experience. That my friends comes from a British guy who once lived and breathed Land Rover.

I've watched your videos and still decided to order one. My build should be here in May. I'm currently driving a 2020 Lexus 460 GX. I love the car, but the infotainment system is very outdated. I chose Defender 110 over the new GX. Because my dealer told me I was 480 on the waiting list, meaning it would be 2025 before I received my truck.

I have just over 44k miles on my 2020 110 and have taken it across the country through forests and deserts. Only issue I've had was the coolant reservoir had to be replaced due to a defect. Just did my routine maintenance and asked my service agent about mechanical issues they've seen with other 110s. There's another 110 in my area with 140k+ miles and they tell me they've only had to change out the headlights. All that to say, hope you enjoy your new Defender! Don't let the negative Land Rover reliability hype train get to you.

@tspidey007 The funny thing is I've interacted with several owners who say they haven't had any problems. The new GX is going to the Tundra engine, which has had plenty of problems. Who knows how their vehicle is going perform until they drive it.

But it looked SO cool. Now. Go get a new Toyo Landcruiser in the new body style. You'll enjoy all the time saved at mechanics and dealership service centers to spend with your family and kid...and not worry about anything going out on you. Lexus makes some cool vehicles too. Two things we learned : 1) Why do the British drink warm beer? They have Lucas refrigerators. 2) It's hard to make electronics leak oil; but, the British have figured out how to do it.

You're biased. Great service and warranty shouldn't be a reason to buy a vehicle. You can't say "we never got stranded" when you actually got towed after loosing power steering at 100 miles, imagine if you took this thing off road - you'd have to get someones 4Runner to pull you out, or wait, you did have a 4Runner but traded it for the defender...

Land Rover knows that people don't really care about reliability until something goes wrong. So they spend money on branding and pretty interiors and posh dealerships. They make millions selling style over substance.

another great review and yep, gotta keep the "boss" happy! My wife was the same with our Aviator. After the transmission went out on the fwy at 10k miles she was done. Fair or not. Can't blame the ladies for being afraid of getting stranded out in the jungle..:)

I had a 2006 Range Rover HSE which I bought certified preowned in 2007 and ran until 2018. Put 135,000 miles on it and the only issue I ever really had was the compressor for the air suspension crapped out on me once in 2016. The repair bill for that was $1,600 at the time. Honestly would have gotten a Defender as a replacement if I wasn't so enamored by the Bronco when it was announced and which I have been enjoying greatly since I picked mine up in 2021 (Non Sasquatch Outer Banks 4DR with the 2.3L Ecoboost)

This video is so disappointing. You read the title and you basically wait the whole video for some major issue, or at least something justifying the title, and it never happens. Like do not title your video "I'm done with Land Rover" if you're not seriously disappointed and you have nothing to say.

You give them a 12 out of 10 for dealer customer service. They HAVE TO have great customer service because their vehicles are so notoriously unreliable that, if it weren't for great service, they would be out of business in the US overnight. I had 3, all awful. I want a Defender - love that vehicle!. I just can't seem to pay that kind of money for a known reliability issue of a brand , and the insurance cost are double what my Wrangler 4xe was. Depreciation is awful, planned factory service is outrageously high. My Jeep was $150 at 30K miles. Land Rover, not sure now but it's about $2000 at the 21K service. PS. At 10K miles there are very few cars or trucks that have major problems. The LR brand is rated the bottom or worst of all brands. Fact. Again, I clearly have loved having them, I had 3, but seriously they can't compare with anything else that's more reliable, and that's everything else.

I had several European cars in the past and I'm done with them. Sure they look cool and drive well but too many visits to service. Specially after warrantee, forget about it. Owning 5 cars and trucks all Lexus and Toyota now, LX and LC are the two best vehicles I had ever own hands down in terms of performance, reliability and resale value. I won't buy any other brands.

It may be my ears, but what did it need at 10k miles, coolant lines?🤔 I'd say power steering going out at 150 miles and then something else at 10k is a sign Land Rovers are leasemobiles just like Mercedes, BMW, Volvo and some Audi/Porsche models. I only have anecdotal experience with Land Rover...Coworker bought a 2017 Defender that was 2 years old and under 30k miles at the time, ended up dumping it in less than a year. Then a family member bought the small model, (name escapes me) the one where Victoria Beckham (lol) was involved in the design? That thing was an absolute nightmare almost from the beginning and seemed to spend more time at the dealer than in their garage. They toughed it out until the 4 year lease was up and then ran away from it. They were seriously afraid to drive the thing more than 50 miles from the city they lived in because it contained the only LR dealership within more than 200 miles. That's not what I'd call a pleasant ownership experience. Sure they look cool, have some awesome customizing from the factory, drive great and have fun gadgets...but if you're afraid to take a vehicle made to go off-road even on a vacay that's mostly pavement, what's the point? Land Rover long ago joined Jeep as former military/hardcore outdoor vehicles to expensive (and in some ways fragile) status symbols. Sure both Jeep and LR still have some serious off-road chops, but both are far more likely to leave you needing a very very expensive remote off-road tow than the alternatives from Toyota...or literally anything else.
