@@AshandKels We are emigrating to Aus in May and we have mainly looked at the East coast to settle, but Adelaide is a great beach side option for a more chilled vibe. There seem to be a few of the smaller coastal cities that have a similar feel.

More of an English influence from what I noticed. Definitely more noticeable with certain vowels and pronunciation as well as a distinctive difference in L & R pronunciation. I've always been interested in different regional accents and listening for unique differences becomes a habit.

@@reddog5378 Yes, mostly cashed-up free settlers in South Australia, I believe. It's interesting that in the UK, for example, there are significant accent differences across small distances. Yet, in Australia, the accent is (mostly) homogenous.

That part of the state library you showed (the Mortlock Library) has only been open to the public for about 5 years. The football stadium grandstand is also less than 10 years old. The actual oval has always been there, but the surrounding grandstand is relatively new. I haven’t been there yet. A popular beach to visit is Glenelg. It is probably the most trendy and busiest beach to visit.

Adelaide is a different vibe to the much bigger cities of Melbourne and Sydney. It has more of a quiet, big country town feel. Adelaide and Melbourne are more cerebral than Sydney. The cricket and AFL/footy stadiums are huge due to the size of the ovals needed for both games.

Looks like you had a typical snake encounter in the park lands, most people end up thinking was that a snake or not. If you leave them alone they almost always leave you alone with most people being bitten when the snake feels threatened. The snake was almost certainly a brown snake or less likely a red bellied black snake both potentially deadly but you are a lot more likely to die from a bee sting than a snake bite in Adelaide. If you are still in Adelaide and looking for nice views try Mount Lofty, (nice view of the whole city) or Morialta Falls if you want to take a scenic walk. Hope you enjoy your time in Adelaide.
