Rakia has never and can never have Anise. Rakia is made from fruits such as grape or plum. Bulgarian "ouzo" is called "Mastika" and it is similar. What you are drinking is Mastika.

Hmmm, this must have been Turkish Raki then because it definitely tasted like anise, and says Raki on the side of the glass - even though I was under the impression that it was the Bulgarian version.

@twostraycats it is probably Bulgarian Mastika in Yeni Raki cups. The Turkish word "Raki" is unrelated to the Bulgarian Rakia. Two different things. Turkish Raki is like Ouzo, Bulgarian Ouzo is called Mastika. Bulgarian Rakia is like Italian Grappa. Lots of places in Bulgaria use whatever random cups they have which are appropriate... they can serve Bulgarian Mastika in Turkish Raki glasses.

hihi this is not salamy,this is lukanka(bulgarian dry meat,for winter) lukanka and rakia,is klasic,and potato,are best with white bulgarian cheese :)

That place was called "Bulgar Gastro Bar"! Enjoy.

First was "Bulgar" and we had the same dish...yummy..the second restaurant was "Diana" 24 hour open°!!! Your should also have gone to "Rahat Tepe" touristy but good food and Rakia!!

Sure is! Well the first meal - yes, a place called "Bulgar Gastro Bar" (00:00 - 04:58) The other lunch was enjoyed at "Restaurant Dayana-3 // Даяна-3) (05:00 - 07:00) Then we're had some beers with the clips at a bar along ul. "Knyaz Alexander". And the last drinks with the cat was later, also at Dayana-3. xx

About how much (in U.S. Dollar$ or Euros) does a 1/2 liter bottle of normal, average local Bulgarian beer cost in a typical (not fancy, "Tourist Oriented") pub or restaurant cost?

Welcome! Roughly 3-6 BGN, meaning usually between 1.5 and 3 euro. The local beer was really good though compared to all the other countries we've visited. Enjoy!
