I recently visited Naxos and Santorini, but did not go to Mykonos. Glad that I skipped Mykonos. Santorini, especially Oia, is gorgeous despite the number of tourists. My partner and I got away from the tourists by staying in one of the cave hotels which offered very nice accommodations, and quietness. Go out in the morning before 10:00, and the evening after 4:00 to avoid cruise ship tourists. Naxos, however, has to be my favorite island. Though there are many tourists in Naxos Town, you can get out of the tourist areas easily to sightsee, hike, visit the many beaches, taste wine and olive oil, etc. It is noticeably less expensive, and a great value.

We did Mykonos for a week in September. You guys were right on the money with your review. Yep it was packed. We aren't party people either. So we just laid around the pool and came into town for dinner and back to the hotel. We felt we wasted our time. Yes those little laneways are cute, but it's such a small area. The rest of the island is very desolate lacking trees, gardens etc which made it really hot. Nothing really much to see. Horrendously expensive as you said. We much preferred our time on Kefalonia. Not so many tourist. Places to go sight seeing. Beautiful and lush. Beautiful beaches. And food prices were really fair. Shame it's such a haul to get there from Australia. We are considering going back next summer we loved it so much. Would love to go back.

Visited both Mykonos and Santorini in the late 1970s on a small Greek cruise ship. Apart from the windmills, the sea front at Mykonos looks nothing like it did back then. There used to be a fairly tame pelican which used to sit on a chair on the front. Santorini looks fairly similar but the only access to the town was by donkey (too hot to walk up). It seems that both places have lost their authenticity and their original charm. Certainly wouldn't consider going back to either of them as they're now just tourist traps.

Wow, the seashore and Little Venice look as busy as they do in June and September when I have been there. I think that's because even then you only get people off the cruise ships in town during the day. People who are staying on the island go to the beaches outside the town during the day and some go into town at night and that's when it's really busy. The beer that you got wasn't badly priced for the Little Venice area - you can get cheaper beer but need to know where to find it and go away from the tourist hotspots.

Thanks for this one, when you have cruise ships landing at these destinations this is bound to happen, also I am afraid to say that when you have every travel vlogger/influencer going to these destination's it dosen't help with amount of foot traffic as that's the whole point of the industry. The locals will love it to a certain extent as they can charge what they like and have a relaxing winter in the off season. Then it will become like Venice and then they will start to complain. It is a very sad and disappointing (probably disturbing to some extent) thing to know that Mykonos, once the island selected by authors, painters, sculptors and people aiming to experience the natural beauty of this island that was a rather poor stronghold for pirates for centuries has now become a place where prostitution, drugs, alcoholism, rudeness and complete disrespect of almost any lawful behavior rules. Hotels, restaurants, beach bars and cafeterias charge exorbitant prices (usually without issuing any receipt), they employ young Greeks or illegal immigrants at monthly wages below (sometimes way below) the minimum wage, without any social security compensations and having them work 12-14 hour shifts 7 days per week treating them like slaves,, while beach bars and hotels occupy beaches charging ridiculously high prices for an umbrella and two chaise longues, forbidding people who are not willing to use them and pay for them from swimming in the beach (by Greek law all beaches are public and freely accessible to everybody). Much of the tourist economy of the island is in the hands of the Russian mafia and its oligarchs much of the supply of food, equipment and fuel a part of the building business is ruled by the Albanian mafia. Corruption runs high, as you can open any sort of shop almost anywhere if you have "the right connections" and you can build whatever you wish or can afford without feeling restricted by any building permits, Greek laws on the use of land or any public space demarcation. Local Mykonians, once happy and proud of their island, are questioning whether they are going to have the means to keep their properties on the island, are more and more threatened by the shady people that make Mykonos their summer residence and by the myriads of people landing on their island in the summer, as tourists seeing Mykonos as the paradise for heavy drugs, easy free and paid sex, wild partying and a chance to engage in any sort of extreme, unhinged nightlife "entertainment" of all sorts. Mykonos was recently characterized as the "Colombia of the Mediterranean Sea", if that adds a layer of description to the fast, sad and possibly irreversible disintegration of this very beautiful island. What a shameful waste!

Most people don't visit Mykonos for the beauty (all of Greece is beautiful) but for the party vibe and the luxury. There are unbelievable hotels, villa, and gourmet restaurants. It's the VIP island. Really famous and really rich people prefer it. In summer time you may see hundreds of private yachts coming from all the Mediterranean countries . Their owners and their friends spent thousands of dollars instantly.

Totally get that. Those people go there on purpose and know what they’re getting. However, a huge number of people go to Mykonos each year that don’t know it’s a luxury and party island. They see pretty Instagram photos with white buildings, cute allies and no people, and they hear that Mykonos and Santorini are where you go, so they just do it. Then they leave thinking that all of Greece is like that and have no idea what they’ve missed.

I am from Greece, and god dammit it really annoys me how much they are milking the tourists there, it's freaking insane... It's very much not worth it, I have been there once, never again. We have islands for ALL preferences that are 10 times better in everything, please go there instead.

This could have been a good video but frankly, I can't, I don't watch videos where the host/hostess must speak to the camera most of the time. I mean it is nice to see faces in the intro but later if this is really about the place and not you, you should be able to speak as the outer voice and let us see the place. No offense, just a reminder for future videos. We were back from Mykonos last week and it is a nice little island, with beautiful views though it is not the greenery but mostly the blue tones of the sea. It is way above even European price levels but is lively and has a lot of youngsters and is quite secure too.

To be honest Mykonos is overrated. I have been all over Greece and I can give you at least 3/5 islands that you can get the same or better and much cheaper

Would you mind telling me why the other islands are that you think are the same or better? Greece is on our hit list but it’s mind boggling trying to choose which islands so I’m curious as to your thoughts. Thanks

There is no greenery, not for me Greece is very cruel to animals, especially in Santorini, donkeys and horses are worked all day in the hot sun taking fat tourists up the stairs when there is a cable car right next door I will never visit Greece.

Mykonos and Santorini are quite pricey and not my style; I prefer peace, quiet and the sound of cicadas instead of tourists!!

As a Greek , I would like to inform that it is not good choice to visit Mikonos. Why ? Mikonos is very popular 🏝️ and visited by popular persons and life style all over the world. This reason and some bad companies in island made all services many expensives. With a simply words Mikonos it is not for anyone (it is not good I know and make me aggressive this). So I would like to suggest to visit other Greek islands of Greece much chipper and very good quality of service. If you are a just a person in the world stay away from Mikonos , if you are someone with a big wallet you can go.....
