I'm sorry. People commit suicide all the time. We put down animals to prevent suffering. I don't hear Catholics complaining about either of those things. Nobody is talking about causing people to commit suicide. What they are saying is given that you have six months or less to live because of a terminal diagnosis, and that you will die anyway within at most a six month time frame, to give those people the option of not having to face pain every day until death. It is about giving a choice. Nobody is saying you MUST die earlier than you otherwise would, but that if you want to die with dignity, then you have that choice available. You can still die early, alone, in Switzerland, at Dignitas. But if you were in that position, would you like to die alone in a different country, and pay a lot to do so, or would you choose to die, at home, with your loved ones by your side? Stop talking complete claptrap. Yes, safeguarding should be in place to ensure there is no coercion. But it is up to the individual. Not up to healthy Catholics who hate anything that doesn't fit in with their religious views.

For Catholics suffering has great value. There is a reason why we grow old and sick, and generally suffer before dying. Everything has a reason in God’s perfect plan. The sufferings you endure before you die are in fact a very important purification and expiation that will reduce your time in Purgatory! The sufferings you think you can escape here on earth by ending your life earlier is only increasing at least a hundred fold the time and intensity of your sufferings in Purgatory! So being able to suffer before you die is a grace and an act of Mercy from God!

I've had several lovely friends who were catholic and I respect religious people's beliefs... I'm an atheist...if and when I decide that I no longer want to be here... that is my decision my body belongs to me and nobody else....

Whether you believe it or not there is a God and a life after death… Who decided you would be born? You gave yourself life too I guess?! Who decided of the colour of your hair? Your height? Etc. The one who gave you life is the only one who has the right to decide when He will take it away.
