Awesome that you guys are living in Japan! I live in a small apartment too. What you could do for air drying your clothes in winter. I put them in a small room. You could put them in your bathroom. Get a drying rack and put it on top of or in the bathtub. Then turn on an electric heater and a dehumidifier inside the room. The heater dries your clothes. And the dehumidifier sucks all the water out of your clothing. This works fantastic, because it’s a small room. Your clothes will be dry within a few hours. And you don’t need your bathtub during the day, so your laundry doesn’t take up any floorspace. Win win :)

Pretty sure the tatami room is intended as the bedroom since all you need is a futon - that furniture will wear out the mats a lot quicker than traditional furniture.
@LifewiththeClements2 жыл бұрын
Yes you are totally right - the tatami room is intended to be used as the bedroom! But seeing as how we have a queen size bed we were recomended by our landlord to use the tatami as our living space, get a small lightweight couch and put mats underneath any furniture!

Hello, I’m interested in working for the JET program, but I’m scared about placement. Do we have any choice in where we work/live?
@LifewiththeClements Жыл бұрын
You get to pick your top three prefectures that you would like to be placed, and sometimes they accommodate to that and other times they don’t at all. Okayama was not on our list at all but we ended up loving it!

@@LifewiththeClements I can't imagine decorating and buying furniture just for a yearlong stay. I would feel so bad about the waste of resources, not to mention money. Every time I've spent extended time abroad, I've always specifically looked for fully furnished places. One of my places even came complete with bed stuff and everything necessary for the kitchen (including all pots, pans, silverware, plates, and even a French press coffeemaker). The time I didn't have bed stuff, I ended up borrowing from a colleague.
@LifewiththeClements2 жыл бұрын
@@catinabox3048 Very smart. Yes we absolutely agree! The apartment was chosen for us though, by the company Adrian works for. Usually we would have had a predecessor living in the house before us (the previous person filling Adrian's position) but unfortunately because of Covid they went home early and the old apartment was given away 😔 Luckily though when we leave, a new foreigner will be taking over the apartment with all the stuff in it!
