I started playing tabla when I was 4 years old, and as a Kid with no formal training, I had picked up some bad playing practices. I'm so glad when I started going to formal training 1 and a half year later (even though I could play basic rhythms on tabla) my Guru made me train from scratch. He molded my playing style to a pretty good tabla player early on so I don't have to worry about the basics when you get in advanced stuff. Cheers to all teachers.

I've been playing for almost 25 years and had over a dozen years of formal tutoring since I was 3. I still consider myself a student and I REFUSE to teach because I still don't have the techniques down to make me a good enough teacher. I had the good fortune of attending a workshop when I was a kid with Zakirji and it was absolutely insane.

Rick, Korbin , most Sikh Temples all over the world teach music to children and adults. If they don't have music lessons, the gurdwara priests will be happy to provide lessons. All sikh sermons and services are sung to music played on Tabla and a kind of Harmonica. All sikh priests are well versed in playing the Tabla. if you can't find a local tabla instructor, and you want tabla lessons visit your local sikh temple (Gurdwara) and ask them if they hold Tabla classes.

01:59 Correction here. In Ustad-ji, ji means "sir". So you can say a person is a "Ustad"... No need to say Ustad-JI when using the word alone. Also Ustad is used only for muslim people. Therefore you could use the title Pandit for Sanju (since he is Hindu):- *Pandit Sanju Sahai*. Another example: Pandit Ravi Shankar.
@nsk18523 жыл бұрын
***Correction And sikh artists are also referred to using ustad
@supersaiyan243 жыл бұрын
Ustad means master/professor/teacher. For Hindus it is Pandit. Sikhs use ustad because ustad is also in the punjabi language and means master/teacher/professor.

Just one word "Hindustan" or "India"🙏 The reason why everything you come across majestic from India is for the same reason that India has very old civilisation and heritage that goes back to our Gods!! 10000s of years (Not proven or considered by the foreign society), that we always believe. Not all countries are inherently part of an old civilisation. Most are due to migrations. So, it is all connected to our civilization. Surprising and amusing to foreigners but not that amusing to us!! We own it🙏🙏🙂

Rick & Korbin, Maybe don't pretend to play an instrument the name of which you can't yet pronounce. Go review your interview with Ustadji Zakir H. He gently corrects your mispronunciation of Tabla be saying it the correct way repeatedly. Go watch, listen, and use your 5 second "Back" button, or simply rewind, and listen, listen, listen. Go back again 3 to 5 days in a row and listen, listen, listen. That should get you much closer than where you are now.

Enjoy your videos and deeply appreciate your interest in everything Indian. I just have one suggestion- while a video is on especially ones like these when there is interesting audio if you both talk or converse over it the audio flow of the video in what its saying is lost to the viewer. So maybe you pause the video share your thought/conversation and then restart. That way the sanctity of the video is maintained. Its just a humble suggestion. Gratitude 🙏❤️

This is perhaps why these are also known as instruments of the Gods and Indian classical music known as music of the Gods. Perhaps the reason why takes a divine ear to find music hidden in such materials and which takes such training, not something that humans would run into and start banging and call the ruckus music. No offence to any kind of music, but let’s face it some music is for the soul and uplifts you, while I’m not sure of the purpose of noise we call music these days.
