I am a single retired woman. I have had backup food forever, from the time I was married in 1972. Even with just two kids and being divorced by 1982; I still did my best to stay a little ahead. I quit my job, moved a few times and ended up with no job a couple times and my back up cupboard was part of our salvation. I don't think it's ever a mistake to create a back up plan; life can change in a heart beat.

I am 20 years old, living on my own in a different city where I study. My mam is taking care of my 5 year old sister and my older brother who didn't at the time have a job. I lost my job in March when my country went into a lockdown. I had money backed up to live off till May. Because I am a student I didn't have ANY financial backing from my country. As sectors started working up, mine is still closed (I work in a daycare, we open next month) I have been eating purely from frozen meats that I had in storage, cans, and instant soups. I learned to make beans and rice from dry. I learnt to use spices. Flour and water for bread, sugar as a jam. In May my toilet paper finished, and if I bought more I would be able to pay for me rent. So I tore up old clothing, and filled a bucket with water and lived without toilet paper. Honestly I am so glad I had a pantry filled with cans and even frozen meat and a lot of potatoes. I wouldn't have been able to survive for so long.

I have some super amazing friends. I live alone and have heart issues. None of my friends will let me go out. So they have all been shopping for me. They always bring extras of things or find things they think I would like that aren't on my list. I have about 4 months worth of food now. I had to put some in my bedroom closet (I live in a one bedroom apt.) I can't remember having so much food. I am blessed to have the people around me that I do, brings tears to my eyes. I worry about them being out and about, but they are taking the precautions etc. I do plan on donating if I can't use it all. I have given some toilet paper to my Mom and a neighbor along with latex gloves, lysol spray, wipes and hand sanitizer. Another friend made me a bunch of masks which I am also sharing. One of my friends works at Costco and can get things before they go out to the public. So beside not being able to go out (which I don't go out a lot to begin with) things haven't been bad for me. It just amazes me how some people with go out of their way while also putting them selves at risk. I feel very loved.

I remember spending $150 on a month worth of groceries on a family of 5 after returning to civilian life (Husband served in the Navy.). I also had a garden and we butchered our own beef and pig. God provided us with deer, squirrel, and duck during hunting season. Oh, plus I canned made my own jam, applesauce, etc. Hard work but oh so rewarding. Now, the cost of food and essentials is up. My garden has gotten smaller and I like to keep my pantry stocked as well. God supplies when we put our faith in Him. God bless. You have a lovely family.

@@bettyfuller3678 did a lot of the same things. My husband was navy also, he passed several years back which polarized me. Took me until just the last 2 years to get back in the saddle so to speak. I can everything that I know we will eat. I don't hunt, only because my 2 special needs son's and I can't haul & process. But full garden this year so we are happy campers.!!! I'm single, no children and I keep a stockpile. I learned the value of that when my mother was alive and I took care of the both of us. Her care and my job were 2 full-time jobs. Buying in bulk kept me from having to shop. Later, when I had both hips replaced, my "hoard" was a life saver! I was more than prepared for this quarantine; being an "essential worker" means I'm out everyday, but not in stores. Hope you all are safe and well.

lisa knox - Sound slime we were raised the same. I’ve always been a once a month shopper and had well stocked pantries. We lived on an island growing up and went to the mainland to shop once a month. So the empty pandemic shelves didn’t really affect me. However I did contract Covid ( at my essential job) and was very thankful to be able to hunker down and no need to get any groceries. Always good to have some things to fall back on.

We also had 6 apple trees and one crabapple tree. The kids would go out daily to collect apples. The crabapples for jam, the apples for pies, apple sauce, apple crumble, just whatever, nothing went to waste and we never went without food. It was hard work but alot of fun with the kids. I couldn't of said it better. When I was given two years to live ten years ago I knew that I could fight it because the Lord was right next to me. Over the years my health has deteriorated and I'm bedridden most of the time. This has made isolation a lot easier for me to cope with as I really only went out for doctors appointments and the supermarket sometimes. Before I was too sick I was primary school teacher and foster Mum. I had to do a lot of soul searching to find a new purpose for my life. I learnt that a prayer, a smile, a few words of kindness to strangers I come across in hospital etc went a long way to making me feel that I still had some worth. I hope that the small things I do help people have a better day. This is the reason why your comment meant a lot to me as it reassured me that I do have a purpose. Thank you and I hope that you and your family are coping okay with any restrictions placed on you whatever country you live in (I live in New Zealand ) . Xx

I also have an electric mill and then a few buckets of wheat berries- so if things ever get seriously bad- I can barter fresh milled flour for stuff. I’ve had a mill and wheat for years though- fresh milled flour is AMAZING!! Don’t forget to add some extra medicines and soaps and stuff to your stock up list and hygiene products. 😀 Love you guys!! This pandemic was a wake up call for me. I used to just keep on hand what we needed for the week. Now I've had my husband build shelves above the windows in our kitchen for food storage. Apartment storage is very slim where we live. I won't be caught with my pants down again. That's for sure. :) We are storing flour, sugar, various baking ingredients, dried beans and lagumes, canned tomatoes, hemp, chia, sunflower, basically all the shelf stable seeds and nuts. Also maple syrup, applesauce, peanut butter, jam, pasta, oats, that sort of thing. We will be using it, and replacing it as well. Loved the vid!

I am from a family of 13, sometimes it was more when some of the neighborhood children stayed. Sometimes families in my community shared food etc.. Boys in my neighborhood would fish a lot and bring fish to my mom. So I totally understand the need for food for a large family. I am glad you are blessed to nourish your family. Now, I am a family of two. Stores in my area are fully stocked on food but not cleaning supplies. Yes, prices are way up. Great video.

I absolutely love that you’re stocking up! We used to live 1200km from the closest store so we’d buy every 10 weeks and grow from the garden. Since moving to a costal town we seem to spend so very much and it’s terrible. You’re inspiring me to get back on the shopping less train. Thank you 🙏🏻 I’d love to see your food storage room.

Perhaps every time you do a toilet paper run to Sam's, pick up more meats since its X quantity per trip? You may be able to find thighs on trip 2 for TP if it's not there during trip 1. I refused to meal plan once panic buying began. Whatever produce that would work with what's in the pantry and freezer is how I meal planned. If I happened to find a meat deal, I'd add it to what we already had on hand in the freezer, so the variety was a bit less, but I wasn't eating only ground beef or chicken breasts for weeks on end.

I‘m from northern germany and startet prepping in the beginning of this year for my family when I saw videos from china. I always thought, what would you do with 10 people, if SHTF? So I’m glad to see you startet by now. Our grocery store shelves where as empty as yours and we had the same limits as you had, but it startet a couple of weeks earlier. Now, there are only a few empty shelves on canned food left. It‘s time to restart prepping for me. Second wave and „other things“ will come around in autum/winter this year and in contrast to the first one it will hit a economy that lies down. It‘s not much time left, but take what you can until then. You should make another thought about chickens in your backyard and store milkpowder. Hugs 🤗 from germany.

we planted apple tree's and peach trees a couple of years ago and put in cherry tree's but they didn't make it. We have a garden and I try to freeze or can everything I can for winter and because it saves on grocery bill. We also planted grape vines and I canned about 30 quarts of grape juice last year. My next plan for down the road is to get some cattle to raise and butcher, we have 10 acres so we have the land . A lady I know raises chickens so we usually get about 7 from her they are pretty big chickens, its just my husband and I and the kids come home once in a while. My neighbors sell eggs, my other neighbors raise sweet corn and share with us, so country life is good, we wont starve.

I live in Western Australia and the food shortages and restrictions were a real challenge with 6 kids - 3 teenagers. I had always wanted to have a reserve but hadn’t ever got to doing it. The shutdown was a huge motivation to start. Large families on the same restrictions as single households at the supermarket was a real struggle. Having to physically go into shops bi-daily to get the necessities was stressful. The best day of my life was when deliveries started back up. Fresh veges and fruit were plentiful which was encouraging but all those staples that large families use to make a meal go further with all the mouths to feed were scarce. As stressful as it was to provide for my family, I also thought it wouldn’t hurt us to experience not having. I look forward to your coming videos on prepping because I’ll be doing the same thing right along side of you. I think we have to because this is only the start of things to come. Blessings to you and yours xx

Meaning, higher prices for what you can find. Stay safe and be BLESSED! -Mott Homestead.

@@OurTribeofMany I have so many ways for you to stock your pantry if you are interested and yes because of the size of your family and all the food shortages you need to quickly get a minimum of a 6 month pantry going. I fear what is gonna take place this fall (if ya know what I mean 😆😆 ) you should send your husband to get toilet paper every other day or week to get stocked on that and for you it's not hoarding it's necessity. If you can you should stock up on the cheapest baby wipes (dollar store) In case this next round of shortages lasts longer then it will replace toilet paper and just have a garbage bag just for them because you can't flush wipes. You could do a mixture of toilet paper and the wipes and the girls can use the toilet paper to wipe with and every one can use the wipes when number 2 happens. I have more suggestions if you would like to hear them just let me know and I'll gladly share them with you. I'm a mother of 6 so I've always have had a 6 month working pantry and now I've increased that too.

Oklahoma here. Grocery stores are more expensive, but I did stock up during the beginning of Covid19. We are now moving through our supplies slowly and I am putting all of the extra money towards our mortgage principal at this time, versus "stocking up." I want that principal lower and that will make me feel more secure and comfortable. The fridge and pantries and freezers are full even though we have been eating these things. Having a full pantry, etc. I feel like we are spending less and I am planning more. I feel like I am better prepared to shop and buy in bulk and when I near the end of my items I will replenish those. God is good and we are blessed at this time. For that I am grateful. I hope you and yours and your subscribers are all well. Times are tough. It's through relying on one another and remembering and helping others that we will get through this Covid. Life may not ever be "normal" again, but I hope good things and good social change are coming.

I live in Dubai, we don’t have any shortages here thank god. Also for us, since most families are a bit bigger than your average American family, most of us already do a monthly shop. I can’t imagine doing it any other way. Its good coz we dont really want to be going in stores so often during these times. One thing that seems very different to where you live is that we must wear masks and gloves to enter any supermarket/grocery store. I usually do my monthly shop online but since the epidemic started, the delivery dates are like 3 weeks later so I just suck it up, put my mask and gloves on and go to the store. Love these grocery haul videos 👍🏻

I found your channel right when COVID started, and honestly, I worried about y'all. Very happy to hear you are building a longer-term pantry. We may not need it...but COVID has taught us all that it provides some security and peace of mind!!! I come from a long line of preparedness people. My mother's parents raised 12 children in the Great Depression, and my dad's parents raised 6...so they kept it up, as have my parents. I'm following suit, and even though I'm a single person who lives alone, I'm constantly buying meat, fruits, and vegetables that I find at amazing prices. I either can them...or most often, freeze them until I have time and energy to can later.

But, we're getting ready to move (safely) and I have been doing less shopping and more eating what we have at home. I will work on stocking back up right after we move 'cause hurricane season begins June 1st). Our stores have most of what I shop for (with some limits) however disinfectant sprays and wipes and hand soap are harder to find (even though they have limits on them). I use liquid dish soap or body wash if we run out of hand soap and can't find any. I'm thinking of DIYing sanitizer and disinfectant, but we'll see. Thanks for sharing!
