I enjoy your channel all year long, but the 30 in 30 during calving season is just my favorite. Thank you for those glimpses into the farming/ranching life, talking to your cows, and making it fun. Some time into summer or fall I'll come back and watch them all over again.

I am not a Wyoming rancher and do not play one on TV, but I do have a question. Why not save a close pasture of around 20 acres or so and then move those close up cows onto that pasture right before calving begins and until after they calve and the calf is up and going for a day or two? At that point they could be moved one at a time OUT of calving pasture and back onto the range. I realize that doing that you may have to feed a bale or two to keep the nutrition up in that short pasture, and that there would be a bit more sorting and moving of cows involved, but that seems easier to me than hunting new babies over 400 acres. You might also need a extra small pasture in a corner (or two) to aid in the sorting. They follow you well for cake. Sorting could be easier than you think.

Mike, old farm hand tip. Make a cake pile, then walk a trail of cake to mama. She can then eat her way away from baby to cake pile. That'll keep her occupied away (you hope). Happy calving.

How I wish I were able to be there to help out, but I am not physically able to do that anymore, unless there are no time constraints. LOL!!! I admire and respect you all so much for all that you do for your family, livestock, and ranch. You all are incredible and so blessed. Thank you for doing the 30-30 because I truly look forward to each episode (not much housework getting done though. LOL!). You all take care of each other and stay happy! God Bless You All!

Yeah Mike, when I was growing up on the farm we had Registered Polled Herefords. And I remember number 72, we actually had to go out with the hayrack and get between cow and the calf! But, she was such a good mother and she sired a calf who was “34”. (which my dad kept in the herd because “34” was a good mother also)! Go figure! Number 34 was temperamental too! 🐂👍😎
