So glad to see Okuma sponsoring you! In Dec 1970, when I was 13, my family was vacationing at Okuma. It was the very first time the six of us had ever taken a vacation together. $$$!! Just before we left to go home to Kadena, we learned from the American Red Cross tracking us down, that my paternal grandfather had passed in Texas. Earlier that weekend, my father - a certified diver - had shown me my first tide pool… I gazed mesmerized, near-sightedly, thru my first mask and snorkel at my very first Blue Damsels, Sergeant-Majors, and Moray Eels. I was utterly entranced. I wound up certifying as a NAUI junior diver 6 months later. Daddy built me a 35 gallon salt water aquarium, and a slurp gun. Okinawa was magical…. the first boat he restored there was named the ‘“Ark of Aquarius”. My parents spent 6 years there…. Daddy’s second, sister boat he restored, was the “Maui No Ka Oi”, which wound up in Long Beach, courtesy of the Navy’s Operation Opportune Lift program. Okuma - the very word resonates. Okuma changed my life - irrefutably for the better, despite grief - on 5 Dec 1970.

One suggestion on cleaning crabs...After dispatching crab, remove the apron & stick thumb into hole, btwn carapace & body & pull apart. In my experience, this saves wear & tear on hands, quicker/easier. Just a suggestion. Belated Happy New Year from Hawaii.... A-L-O-H-A!

Hi, i got my order of chili kelp from barnacle foods and it was delicious! I love the story how it was what you and Jocelyn at on one of your camping adventures when you got stuck in a storm. Funny because Dungeness in Kent UK close to where I was brought up is a nuclear power station, never seen a crab like yours but we have the very similar brown edible crab, with huge claws full of meat. Recipe looks delicious, I'll try it with our local crabs.
