Mike, many years ago, my brother-in-law was using a cutoff saw the same way you use yours ((right hand on the handle and left hand holding the board). He had a lot of cuts to make, but at one point he got distracted. He brought the saw down and cut off his left thumb. The doctors were able to reattach his thumb, but he had his thumb stuck through the wall of his abdomen until it fully healed. We all learned a lesson from that. If you hold the handle with your left hand, then your right hand will not be anywhere near the blade. I used to be a wood working teacher, and I never thought about this until my BIL had his accident. It only takes a moment of inattention for bad things to happen, so we are better off keeping ourselves as far from danger as possible. Try it. Once you are used to it, reversing your hands becomes second nature, and it may save you some grief.

You have mastered one of life’s most challenging ventures. You have raised fabulous loving compassionate caring children. Skittles has struck gold and I would find it impossible to let him go. Well done Mike and Melissa.

That dog will have a forever home very soon. If we hadn't just got a golden puppy a couple of months ago, we would have been running down to put our names in the hat for him.

That is wonderful that Eva is fostering. We did that for many years. Our first foster was a "failure", as we kept her. But we got better at it. We fostered and re-homed nearly 200 dogs in the time we were fostering. You get attached to each one, and it's emotionally difficult to let them go. But you come to realize that is the purpose and ultimate goal of what you are doing. Love them, socialize them, and send them on to their forever home. It's very rewarding, and there are so many great dogs, and cats, in need of a good forever home. Eva has a big heart. You guys have done a great job raising some wonderful children who have become warm and wonderful young adults.

Rescue or fostering is awesome. We're on our 2nd Rottweiler. First one was a pup from very reputable breeders in PA. We had her for 11 years. Took a break from having a dog for a bit. We rescued our 2nd Rotty from the local SPCA near where we live. He was 90 pounds at a year old. He is now 6 years old and a 140 pounds. He is a big cream puff. Just wants attention and to be around you. Bravo for taking the time to hopefully save another pooch from being abused or put down.

Skittles. Man's best friend. I think that describes Skittles the best. It just warms your heart when a big dog like Skittles is instantly your friend. My last dog was a Chow-chow. He was raised surrounded by kids and loving parents. Spoiled for sure. Chow-chows are labeled vicious. Bear was the opposite of vicious. All dogs raised in love and kindness will be Man's best friend. I'd be proud to spoil Skittles even more. I wish the best for him. Kudos to Eva. He sure was the star in today's video. Thanks for sharing. 👍🚜❤️🙏🇺🇲🇺🇲

LOL, I should have known!!! Y'alll had me going with the "roommate that won't pay the rent" line. Lived through one of those way back in the day. Skittles looks like a great dog! I'd take him if I was closer. I'm really interested in your LeanTo building project. I'm planning on building one this Spring about 24x36 or thereabouts. I don't think I'll be able to do it as cheaply as you unless I come into a bunch of free wood! I also noticed that you're scribing a line on each board you're cutting on the cutoff saw... you can save yourself some time by just making your mark on the edge closest to you and then lining up the blade on that small mark... no need to waste time scribing the line, as the saw will make the cut square for you. I did the same thing for a long time until that lightbulb in my head finally clicked on and I realized how silly I was to be scribing that line every time.

Seems to me, as Money Gets Tight, owners of pets start looking at where to cut costs and Pets become the first thing that some cut loose. I get it, but really, people need to Look long term when they make decisions about adding pets and kids into there life choices. As circumstances and life can change in an instance. Good on You Eva, helping when you can. Mike and Melissa, thank you for raising such a wonderful, thoughtful and caring young lady. Trying to be proactive in SO Many Ways. Hey Mike , I remember you talking once about wanting to kind of encloxe the Wood Barn to make it a little nicer to work induring the winter . How about this . Put Double Barn Doors all the way around it that you can close off to keep the wind and snow out of it and if you need to , you can open a set of the barn doors to get to things . Make them 12 feet tall and keep them about 8 to 12 inches off of the gound . Or if you do put in a cement floor go all the way to the Ground and up wthin a foot of the Eve's . Plus it makes things out of sight out of mind as well . When I go to Klamih Falls , OR they have Hay Barns that are like that . Looks like they work well . Just a thought . Not like you don't have enough wood to build the doors . Keep up the Great Videos . Sorry once again and you know why .

The thought of building things on your own property, using your own saw mill, to mill full dimensional lumber, instead of going and buying nominal lumber with it's prices, especially these days, seems like such a treat/convenience that I'm sure a lot of others would sure like to have. I think of the cost of buying a saw mill like that, and then the convenience, and to me the convenience out ways the cost. I wonder how many builders handymen/furniture makers would like to have access to someone that has their own mill, to mill up lumber they have on their property or was given to them, if the option was advertised somewhere/some how in your local area. I'm pretty sure you have mentioned that before, though has been a long while since the subject has been brought up again. The milling for this project got my gears rolling on that subject again. I was thinking about how you used to put out a corn feeder for the deer years ago, and wondered if that is something you have thought about possibly doing again, to possibly draw in bigger bucks to the property?

You had me going with the “Eva’s got a roommate not paying rent”. Should’ve known! Skittles is a nice dog; I’m sure the exposure you’ve given him will land him a forever home! I agree with you, I’m not ready for winter yet! Many 70s & 60s here in S MO for much of the Fall & now highs won’t get out of the 40s. The 1st half of deer season here was actually too warm (upper 60s) but still have 2 more days so it will be cooler. (Also an abundance of acorns kept them from moving all that much.) Good luck to you & your family with your hunting season. I noticed the last 2 videos didn’t have any “commercials” from KZbin in them. Is that a change you’re making; also a switch from music with vocals to just music only. Or are you just switching it up occasionally? No biggie, just curious. Always enjoy your videos! Take care!

Great video. I like Eva’s new foster dog Skittles. I don’t expect Skittles to have a job because he doesn’t pay the rent. On the other hand, Skittles is so cute and smart which makes up for not having his share of the rent.

We have an American pit bull which I'm guessing is somewhat kin to this dog, and she is the most loving, affectionate dog ever. But she was raised that way. These are indeed strong dogs and I can imagine they would be whatever you raised them to be, loving or mean. Ours is more likely to lick you to death rather than bite you tho my wife is her "mamma" and I would suggest that you not mess with her in Zelda's (our dog) presence lol! But I love this dog! Zelda just jumped up on the bed, came over and gave me a kiss. Did I say I love this dog? We also just adopted a kitten that showed up on our door step hungry. She is now a full fledged member of our household, and Zelda loves her to pieces tho she is tiny in comparison (it did take a couple of days to adjust tho). It's funny to watch them cuddle and love on each other. One so big and the other so tiny, but Zelda loves it when they are pawing at each other and chasing each other around the room. It gives them both a bit of exercise as well. When they tire out, they usually lay on Zelda's bed and catch a nap together. Always enjoy your vids. ❤❤

I'm actually jealous of your cold weather!!! Here in Texas it felt like spring today. I was out clearing in the woods in my svl 97-2 with the FAE mulching head. somehow I managed to run across a stump or against a tree and threw off a track. First time I've ever done that and after spending hours fixing it I don't recommend doing it!!! It was pretty awful. Those tracks are heavy and it is tough to get a 14k lb rig lifted up out in the woods!!! had to go cut some big wood rounds to use as a jack stand!!

Skittles reminds me a lot of our dog, Freya -- we thought she was a lab-pit mix, but, at least according to DNA results, she doesn't have lab at all. She does have pit and a couple other related terrier varieties, but the surprise was golden retriever, which we figure gave ger her muzzle shape and general sweetness. She's a great dog, but is a bit crazy when new folks come around. Skittles really looks like he'll be a great boy for somebody.

I don't see much to suggest Skittles has pitbull in him. You can get a muzzle leash to help with the pulling. Instead of pulling you, it forces the dog's head back around. No pain like you have with a choke collar. They learn that pulling doesn't get them where they want to go.

My 10 year old son Jonathan hunted modern gun season with 22 250 but passed on all the deer he saw. He was gonna go try n shoot a doe this last day of season but he came down with a cold last night so I guess it’ll have to wait till free youth weekend after Christmas or maybe get one with his crossbow if he wants.
