Join Kyle, VP of Powertrain Emad Dlala and CEO Peter Rawlinson for an in-depth discussion about the crazy fast charging capabilities of the Lucid Gravity, which achieves 400 kW fast charging, seamless Tesla Supercharger integration, as much as 225kW at relatively low 400V chargers without splitting the pack, and the highest cell energy efficiency with it's 926V architecture. From its real world advantages in charging and range, efficiencies in production and cost, and with help from a new advanced battery chemistry developed with Panasonic, let's see how the engineering driven culture at Lucid helped shape this SUV.
Thank You to Peter and Emad from Lucid Motors for joining us.

That's the issue with Lucid. They're all talk, talk, talk, and no show. They said the Lucid Air had the best charging in the business, but then the 2025 Taycan and the Chevy/GM trucks are released and blow it out of the water with their much, much better curves.

@@Kee_Didnt Who showed and at which point? Where in this video do we get to see the curve. Did I miss that? "They" can't be the ones showing the video. Anyone can control what's "shown" on a video. Allow an independant person to record and show the video. It's not like it's not going to get out before they sell a ton of these. What's the point of hiding things at this point. It paints them as "sneaky" in the eyes of the public, and further erodes trust. Let a reputable person from the EV community do it, and if something needs to be fixed, they'll tell you so you can adjust/fix it.

It would have been nice to hear him speak more about balancing energy density and power density, but I'm glad that the trade offs of cylindrical cells are actually being discussed. For the longest time, it was just a received opinion in the EV industry that cylindrical cells were objectively superior.

Fantastic video, loved all the nerdy details! But KYLE, KYLE, KYLE (ref. MOM, MOM, MOM), PLEASE advice the Lucid crew to NOT put the charging port on the Gravity in the front for the Euro market. Why would they do that? Lucid in Norway told me the Gravity won´t arrive until Q1´26, so hopefully by then they have reconsidered and put the charging port where it belongs, like on all Teslas. I’ll be switching from a Model X to a Gravity, and hope they will reconsider! (90% because of the superior engineering, and 10% because they have a rational, sane and excellent CEO.)

Great video. Loved Emad's comment about how the charging capabilities of Air were designed without consideration for possible access to Tesla chargers. At the 44 minute mark Kyle states he's played around with a Gravity more recently. That sounds like he's had a chance to test the software since the earlier OoS Review on the Gravity. He says it has seemingly great software. No software concerns? I know a Hogback test will come later, but software overall is good?

@newscoulomb3705 9 күн бұрын
I mean, the technical details are fine, but it means very little to the customer. The consumer experience is almost entirely dictated by the average charging power, and that's an area where Lucid has struggled. They can throw shade at split-packs like Ultium all they want, but right now, the 200 kWh Ultium's average charging power to 80% is nearly double Lucid's current packs. From a customer perspective, that means a "40% Challenge" is just as valid and important as a "10% Challenge."

When a vehicle needs a 200-kWh pack to give reasonable range, it really had better have fast charging capability.
@newscoulomb3705
@newscoulomb3705 8 күн бұрын
@@blakespringpasturemortimer9168 If by "reasonable range" you mean "best in class range," sure, but my point was that average charging speed matters much more to consumers than peak charging speeds. Lucid also doesn't offer a fullsize truck, so the discussion of relative efficiencies is moot anyway.

@ I'm thinking about the Escalade IQ which weighs over 9,000 pounds and has less passenger room than a Lucid Gravity.
@newscoulomb3705
@newscoulomb3705 8 күн бұрын
@@blakespringpasturemortimer9168 It has slightly more room than the Gravity (about 10 cu/ft more), but it is not as well laid out. So yes, kudos to Lucid for their packaging, but we're also comparing a fullsize crossover (the Gravity) to a fullsize SUV (th Escalade IQ). The Escalade IQ has more ground clearance, better payload capacity, and more towing capacity. Also, GM is notoriously stingy on their EPA range estimates, so I have no doubt that in real-world testing, the Escalade IQ will go much farther than the Gravity. Edmunds recently tested the GMC Sierra EV, and it is now the longest range EV they've ever tested, including the Lucid family. So that battery pack allows a fullsize truck to travel farther on a charge than a low-roof, hyper efficient sedan.
@blakespringpasturemortimer9168
@blakespringpasturemortimer9168 8 күн бұрын
@ Then you should watch the videos with the reactions of Kyle Conner (Out of Spec Motoring), Jason Cammisa (Hagerty's), and others after trying out all three of the Gravity's seats. Conner did a lengthy direct comparison of the seating in both the Escalade and the Gravity and found the Gravity layout considerably better (not to mention quieter). I have sat in the Gravity prototype at the Miami Worldcenter, and its space utilization is remarkable. Roomier even than the Honda Odyssey it will replace once our order is fulfilled. The Escalade is absolutely gargantuan and still can barely hold its own in terms of passenger space against the Gravity. A four-and-a-half ton behemoth that needs a 200-kWh battery pack to match the range of a Lucid (and with less acceleration and handling) but with considerably less more passenger space? Jeez. As for the Escalade's real-world efficiency, check out the Out of Spec test drive:

The real world is what's in the ground if all that is available for most of the country is 350kw you should do a 10% challenge with what is common today. You can always do one when you have access to 400kw. This would not be helpful for the consumer only showing them something they don't have access too. At least Lucid had the foresight and moved quickly on nacs and supporting the highest charging rate possible on SC.

Lol nice try fanboy, you never drove a gas car before? "Charging" takes 5 minutes max and you can continue your journey. If you need to take a break, you clear the "charging station" anyway and park at a dedicated parking lot. 25 minutes of charging (and only up to 80% so you do not even get maximum range afterwards!) is only acceptable because of the low volume of EVs on the road and the enthusiastic first movers who wouldn't even mind waiting 30min or more for 80% range. Actually,Tesla's "Long-Range" models still take 30min to charge to 80%, even though that's like last decade charging speeds. The mass market clearly needs faster charging and more range. And both of them lead to an 800V-architecture and 800V infrastructure. Tesla's max charging power and charging curve is abysmal and so is their outdated charging network.
