BTW the Cybertruck has a pretty flat area until the bonnet which is a waste they could make it a foot or two longer and shape lower part too slop up the front too be more Aerodynamic, Also I hate the Sloped Bed Sides sure it looks nice but makes it so much harder too side load via heavy Machinery as well as just Reach over and grab stuff out without having to walk around to the back and reach in for what's meant too be a Work Vehicle is Ludicrous! We have these for a different car and good quality , but tthe usual mirror function is then only working in 1 mode only, you do not have the possibility to flip the angle during evening and night, when the headlights of the cars are blinding you. The usual dual purpose of display (in our case we use the mirror as a display for the front camera) and mirror is working great, but the night position is missing. Have not seen one that offers both. Therefore those are only sold as aftermarket solutions at least here. Bought in 2023 so we got the most recent tech and not something outdated.

Our Tesla rep showed us that it’s like the Model X FWD. Both the CT and the X will come down forcefully with a long button press, like the X needs to do if the wind is strong. The rep shut the frunk with a short button push, then quickly put his hand in the gap - and the frunk lid touched his hand without hurting it. Should have gotten a video.

Mileage at 80-85 mph isn’t exactly typical driving to test range claims. Any vehicle with that kind of frontal area is going to have massive drag at those speeds. As for how the stainless steel lasts in the weather, it’s not like there aren’t a ton of sst tanks trucks on the road (milk, propane etc) or tanks at industrial/chemical plants. They don’t worry about bugs.

It is if you drive on highways in parts of the US
@thomasreese28169 ай бұрын
Mileage has always been calculated as a mix of city / highway driving, averaging at ~55 mph, even for gas cars. Acting like Tesla is lying for using the same standard is silly. Every car should have to list both a mixed + highway (75mph) rating
@BillLaBrie9 ай бұрын
Don’t know where you live, but that’s cruising speed on most interstates in the western US.
@TexMex4219 ай бұрын
Higher speeds reduce range for any vehicle. It would make a lot of sense for the EPA to give EVs a city / highway range vs the current single mixed range, but for now it's pretty simple, on Highway trips you'll generally get about 2/3 the predicted range. You'll recharge more often probably at about 40-50% of the range. So a 300 mile range EV will have 200 miles of highway range and you'll generally recharge every 120-150 miles. z On the other hand if you make videos for a living the "OMG my EV is not getting its predicted range!" is viral gold.

The F-150 Lightning we bought came with an adapter to convert the 240v to NEMA-1450. We didn't have to add it as an option, and it wasn't listed as an option, so I think it was just included? And I think that's the right choice, as the outlet choice is based on what is most likely to be plugged into it, and using NEMA-1450 I think is a more niche use case. The adapter can even be helpful as the outlets on these trucks are recessed, and a lot of those 1450 charge cables will not be designed to work with a recessed outlet, meaning you won't be able to plug them in fully. But when using an adapter, having it be recessed is no longer an issue. Completely agree. You got to be a big doosh bag to go out of your way and walk up to a stranger and tell them "Boy your truck is ugly". Most people will just puke inside a bit and move along. In contrast if you love it, it's always easy and nice to give out a compliment. In other words. They have no idea how many people hate the truck because the only people approaching them are the ones that like it. It's unique and new right now. Once it becomes normalized, those positive interactions will stop too. I can appreciate its look but it's definitely not for me. It's easy for me to state that here but I definitely wouldn't walk up to a cybertruck owner in person and tell them that. Unless they are my friend. Then all bets are off and I will laugh profusely every time I see them.

With tens of thousands of Rivians on the road and adventuring in the backcountry, let me know how many owners have used their spare tire. I carry tire plugs and small compressor (which you need for off-roading anyway) and then I don't worry about it. I always have extra food and water and survival gear anyway. Because a lot of things can leave the vehicle undriveable besides a flat tire (like two flat tires, if you only have one spare).
@Waors9 ай бұрын
It has nothing to do with how often it's used. If you get a tree limb puncture, or air down and loose a bead your tire plugs and small compressor aren't gonna do anything. You have a spare tire, especially on capable vehicles because you don't know what you're gonna run into.
@ZipZoomZip9 ай бұрын
I've been over-landing and off-roading for over 40 years in the in the Rockies, Sierra Madre Occidental, Sierra San Pedro Martir, Sierra Sierra de San Borja, the Cascades, The Pacific Coast Ranges of B.C., Vancouver Island, etc. I know about being self-sufficient, trip planning, navigating, first aid, vehicle maintenance and repair, etc. etc. etc. What I've learned is that with modern tires and tire plugs, knowing how to air down properly without risking de-beading, and driving with awareness, a single flat tire is not the most likely mode of failure. Do you bring 2 or more spare tires? Because you never know when you're going to puncture two of them simultaneously on the same hazard. Do you bring a spare alternator or voltage converter? How about a spare steering arm or tie rod? Because you never know when a broken one might leave you stranded. Do you bring a spare fuel pump? How about a spare battery? The point is, no matter what kind of vehicle you drive, it has multiple modes of failure and it's impossible to bring enough spares for every scenario and a spare tire is particularly egregious due to the size and weight of it and the fact that it only protects against one flat, and then you no longer have a spare. A plug kit can repair multiple flats on the same outing and, by running the tire pressures within their sweet range, and avoiding road hazards, you are very unlikely to have a flat that can't be plugged. In an emergency, most sidewall punctures can even be repaired with creative use of a plug kit. It only needs to get you back to a tire shop or within cellular range. A more useful tool than a spare tire is a satellite phone. We no longer live in the 1950's (or even the 1980's). There are many ways to skin a cat. Don't get hung up on one method. Most people who enter the backcountry in a vehicle are woefully unprepared (and lack of a spare tire is not their biggest concern). @@Waors
@DamonsTradingLaboratory-pb7tp9 ай бұрын
Lol. A flat tire is by far the most likely thing to leave you stranded. I'm only 36 years old and I would have been stranded outside of cell phone range countless times without my spare tire. I've never had more than one flat at a time but I've used a spare tire at least 15 times.
@ZipZoomZip9 ай бұрын

@@DamonsTradingLaboratory-pb7tp You're not gonna win with Boomer Bill whose been driving forest roads since WW Nam'. It's cute you mention "avoiding road hazards". Last I checked it's damn hard to do when you're actually off-roading banging off rocks, downed trees and whatever other obstacles are in the way and not on a prepared or maintained road. It's also funny you mention not carrying spare parts; given that I carry spare u-joints, spare studs/lug nuts, tie rods, end links and fluids. Why? Because like Damons mentioned they are things that'll leave you stranded, and when you actually use your vehicle for off-roading things break and it's better to be prepared. What the hell is a satellite phone gonna do when I'm hours or days away from civilization or family/friends.

I've taken tractor trailer loads of stuff like broken concrete, bricks, cinder blocks, torn up asphalt, etc to the places where they recycle it and they charge me by the ton to dump it. From the perspective of a car design enthusiast, it's hideous. A sustainability proponent, wasteful. A safety steward, brutal. However, the 10 year old kid in me is enamored with it. The fact that it's so incredibly polarizing, in my opinion, makes it an overnight huge success. I love to hate it, yet I hate to love it.
@andrasbiro30079 ай бұрын
1. It's just different. You are not used to it, because in the last 30 years all cars looked exactly the same. The more you look at it, the more you'll like it, especially in person. It's also subjective, I personally think the Rivian is ugly as hell, but most people seem to like it. 2. It's the most sustainable truck ever. Truck buyers will buy trucks, you can't compare this to a tiny city car. But even then, there's nothing unsustainable in the CT. Not being painted is a huge plus for sustainability. It's also entirely recyclable, and consumes much less power then competitors. And it's still runs on sunshine. Who cares how much sunshine it uses, that thing just keeps coming no matter what, and like 1000x more than we could possibly use. 3. I'm pretty sure it's one of the safest trucks. If not THE safest. Again, you can't compare it to a compact car, it's a truck. For the passengers safety is not an issue, it's tough, won't roll over, and full of active and passive safety features. It even protects you in a firefight. As for pedestrians, the low front and the overall shape is likely to cause less severe injuries than the brick wall that other trucks are. The mass of the car matters little, as even the small ones are over 10x heavier than a human. What matters is how fast the momentum transfer happens. The CT hits an average human below the center of mass, which means the momentum transfer is inefficient, which is a good thing in this case. And it mostly hits your legs, which is generally not lethal. A typical truck will hit you your center of mass, which not just transfers more momentum faster, but also damages vital organs. On top of that, the CT has (will have) the best active safety features, so it's far less likely to hit you in the first place.
@Kailaniandkiara71659 ай бұрын
I love the front of the truck. Starting past the cabin, the back is just horrendous to look at. Nobody is going to give you a thumbs up or come talk to you if they have no interest in it or hate it. I don't hate it and I wouldn't come up and talk to you about it. I'd talk to you because you two would be fun to talk to but about other things. They probably will sell a lot but also not a ton because $100,000.00+ is just too much money for almost anyone. Rivian is finding that out, as is Lucid. Tesla really blew it not putting a basic rear-camera washer on the vehicle. I can't believe they still don't have surround view, (it's probably too complex for Elon to do). The headlights are all Elon. Fit well with the theme, absolutely useless. Your light bar when you get it is almost going to be a requirement. The headlights are worse than on my 2000 Tacoma. And that's saying something. Just like the rear view camera, useless if they're blocked from snow/ice/road grime. At the initial advertised 500+ miles I said to myself "if they can get it at 500+ miles, even for a 100k price point, I would get one and nobody with a truck couldn't say no to it, even if it is fugly." Less than 200 real world miles? No thanks. It's what my Model YP gets and it's only barely enough. I will even go from 100% to 3-5% and only gets slightly more than 200. It is very easy to charge though so not a HUGE deal. I would far prefer the usefulness of the Rivian. The bed wall slant on the CT makes it almost completely useless from the side.
@otm64610 ай бұрын
It needs a Baja Kit which includes a spare tire mount in the bed for serious offroad work. Maybe factory bead locks. A modern truck with TPMS and load range E tires driving on road really doesn't need a spare.
