Maam, with all due respect, not all of us can grow a real beard. I for one truly wish I could. I think you may be a beardist. And yes, I wear a decorative goatee, but just to hide a scar.
@CJ-bu8mh
@CJ-bu8mh Жыл бұрын
@@snapperboat25 You just do whatever you can and a goatee is considered a beard, just a short one. Only time I see beards is at the grocery store or maybe at the doctor's offices. I admire people with curly hair as I do not have that DNA! Better to admire than be envious. Is your boat 25 feet long?

I am from Wyoming. I worked at a power plant locally here with a man who was from West Virginia; another true Hillbilly. I won't go into details about his family but he was the hardest worker and a true friend, regardless of any circumstances we found ourselves in. He was a mechanic though he could do about anything that was required. I hired him back after he retired to work on a special project I needed done. He was a good man. You remind me of him a lot! Oh, by the way, your content is very informative as well. I enjoy it.

We love Norm A up here. He started his career on a program called "This Olde House" which was a antique home restoration program common up here in New England and Up State New York. Norm came in to that program a few seasons after it stated. It was a few years later when he spun off into his Yankee Workshop program. We always were amazed at his amazing tools. Sometimes calling them "Satellite and Atomic Synchronized Biscuit Making devices". I am certain he would be a subscriber to your channel Nathan! That wall looks great! Nathan - Maybe you said earlier, and I missed it, but @ 18:55, while you were starting your shiplap on that insulated exterior wall, was there a reason you didn't slip in a piece of the rat guard at the bottom and on the sides? It would match the look of the adjacent metal-faced wall and help protect against the furry woodland creatures looking to gain access to your soon to be completed shop? It is looking great and I'd like a tour when it's all finished.

Some of the smiths here in the uk stand their anvils on Oak rounds with the foot of the anvil scribed into the surface, the wood absorbs the shock when you hit,and also deaden the sound a little, love your videos, Regards JB

blacksmithing! You sure have a lot of good tools already, I am amazed. my father opened a large mechanics shop in the large barn, on the farm. He soon got a forge and anvil. He now could make parts for the farmers as often a broken, say, a gear might could take three months to arrive from the dealer and this farmer needs this gear *now*! only three more days to harvest that wheat. So my father became a blacksmith as well as a welder and mechanic. betcha, you will find good uses for these shop additions, Nathan.

A beautiful metal wall for sure! Satisfying to watch it come together. In the late 60s, after a bit of a battle with my high school administrators and a teacher, I was allowed to take the metal shop class as a GIRL! I am lucky they let me in. It was my most favorite class in all those years. Worked 7 years after graduating as going to college wasn't a thing in my family. Later worked 3 part time jobs, had a husband and a 3-acre mini farm with a lot of animals to care for, but enrolled in a local community college and ended up with an amazing career in biomedical engineering as a repair tech. Always the first woman in the service department of a medical equipment manufacturer with plenty of unhappy male coworkers. I'm an old lady now and have lots of issues with mobility. So watching you do all of your regular chores, the fabulously modern tractors (I drove a 1940s Massey Harris) and the way you think about organizing the shop and equipment is quite fun for me. I surely miss having my own chickens and veggies from the garden. Really looking forward to your blacksmithing adventure. Your added treats of drone footage of your surroundings and the sky is thoroughly enjoyed by me. Glad I stumbled across your channel many moons ago.

Looking good at the forge area. I’m glad you are finally getting A ROUND TUIT. I was thinking that that ship lap would have looked good if it matched the angle of the white oak brace from floor to ceiling. A good bit more work but it would have been unique. I liked the tutorial on the wood burning. Thank you for that and ima try that some myself real soon. And the EDC video would also be interesting. I can remember watching the new yankee workshop with my dad when I was a kid and talking about all the things we could build if we just had a shop, tools and the time. Nathan I think you are living the dream of many of us in your audience. Thanks FRIEND. I love that word when it’s used in proper context.

In the UK, I've used the charred wood method to preserve posts, often old telegraph poles, that are used to build saltwater boat landing stages. It stops marine worms from getting into the timber and reduces barnacle build-up. When we've had to pull out posts, they are in a first-class state of preservation after decades in the mud and water.
