I just went down to pick up an amp from Aamir yesterday. When I did I found out he had just received his shipment from Tonewinner the previous day. Ended up coming home with one these beasts along with the amp and I am very happy I did. Aamir is a great guy to deal with. He mentioned that I was the first non reviewer to get one in Canada. Timing is everything. This sub is a beast.

Great review. I received mine a couple of days ago and it's awesome. I had 2 pb3000 and many many others ! I think it's absolutely unbeatable in it's price range and it also out performs other more expensive ones as well. I'm very pleased with this subwoofer . Also I put the SVS SoundPath feet on it and it looks better , stops some rattling of items in the kitchen and makes it easier to pick up. Highly recommended.

Thanks for taking the time to share this. I’d really appreciate your input. I’m in the market for two new subwoofers to replace my 20+ year old Sunfire True Signatures. They’ve always been a bit boomy and not great for music. My setup includes Polk Legend floor-standing fronts, a matching center, and surrounds. I split my listening about 60/40 between music and movies, with a lot of 2.0 and 5.1 music, live concerts, and film content. I’m focused on sealed cabinets due to space limitations and am considering the Rythmik E15HP2 and the SVS SB17 Ultras. The main appeal of the SVS is the app and its room correction tools, though I use ARC Genesis for room correction (including subs) and wonder if the SVS tools would be redundant. It might still be fun to compare the two approaches. Coming from the Sunfires, I’m confident either of these models would be a massive upgrade. What are your thoughts on these options, or is there another sub I should be considering?
@MykWazowski
@MykWazowski Ай бұрын
Obviously both will go really low and have high SPL. My preference is for tight, well defined bass. My guess is they will both be very similar. The design and tech of the SVS (dual Amps, dual voice coil, switch mode power supply) sound great. Just don’t know if it’s something I’d even notice comparing to the E15HP2

I could buy a JTR Captivator 18” for $3299 and get significantly more output. I think there is a lot more value out there, SVS sub is limited at frequencies below 16 hertz. Frequencies you can feel deep. The Tonewinner is overall a better value for the money. SVS is off with the value of the PB-16.
@SpecOfTech
@SpecOfTech Жыл бұрын
I agree, there is a lot more value out there over the SVS PB16. It's hard to argue the value of the D6000 also, insanely good output for a very affordable price. JTR are and amazing value also, like you said, if you can budget for them. I have had their RS2's and currently on the CAP2400's, both were/are amazing subs.

Very tempted to give Aamir a call and trade in my two PB3000s on three D6000s. I have no complaints with the SVS subs but I think I could get lower and smoother bass response in my room with that setup. Bought all my gear from Aamir and he is the king of customer service, can't say enough good things about him and Summit Hifi.

Why not give him a call and see what you can work out? With 3 D6000 you will get much more output and a smoother response, especially if properly placed. Aamir has to be one of the best, if not the best in the business. I have never seen a retail owner call customers personally about their purchases and to assist them, except Aamir.

I know you are an SVS fan but 2 subwoofers to consider: the RSL Speedwoofer (10" and 12") the 12" goes down to 16 HZ, and I want to say around 450 watts RMS, but is big! the 12 inch is around $800 & has good adjustability. And Tektron makes a 6 driver by 10" subwoofer that goes for around $1200-1300 that is a beast! The RSL is powered, the Tektron is not.

I've never heard the THX 13, so it's really difficult to give you an educated opinion between the 2. All I can say is the D6000 seems to have some of the best performance out there any where near it's price point. It does have a nice hard hitting bass as well. On top of that it has the app for on the fly changes. I don't think you would be disappointed in either of them though TBH. Aamir does offer a 45 day in home trial, so you could give the D6000 a try risk free.

I purchased dual PB13’s here in Canada for $4000 all in just a few short years ago.🤦‍♂️ Did you mention which tune on the PB16? Also, you mentioned different placement - important to note that even a few inches can make a huge difference on response.

I did mention which tune in the video, "standard". Moving a subwoofer can make changes to the response, but for the most part it usually just helps or worsens the peaks and nulls. I don't believe the overall average output would change drastically if in the same room. Thanks for watching.

Great video! The measurements don't lie, the D6000 is impressive! It should be compared to the SVS PB2000 for the price alone. It would be a slam dunk for the TW. 4 TW6000's for around $7k CAD, vs 4 PB16 at over $19K, that is a completely insane price difference, nuts!! (get 10 D6000's LOL) It really hits home how these big brands have enjoyed price gouging and screwing us all for years. HiFi and Home theater people really need to see videos like this and rethink what the media and flashy marketing has done, influencing buying decisions, while lining their pockets with massive profits at our expense. If I can ever get one of the HSU subs I will do the comparison. HSU isn't really all that appealing for Canadians after exchange, import fees etc. Not to mention if a Canadian ever requires warranty, they expect the customer to pay to ship the subwoofer to HSU, and then back to the customer. They may be worth it for US citizens, but not really for us Canadians.

Not having them in same exact place pretty much makes this test null and void. Room nodes matter and anyone who know anything about home audio and low frequencies knows this. Even a slight variation in placement can make a huge difference. Not saying tonewinner isn’t good but as far as trying to be a conclusive test you can’t take these results to serious as there is too much variation introduced with the different placement. But thanks for disclosing it in the beginning.
@SpecOfTech
@SpecOfTech Жыл бұрын
Well technically there is some truth to what you are saying, but to completely cross off the conclusion isn't true. Yes, placing subwoofers in different spots will change the room modes (peaks/nulls), but the overall output will generally be very close, specifically when using more than 1 subwoofer. Especially if the subwoofers are in a similar configuration, ie. one in one corner, and one behind the seat. The room modes will change from front right corner to front left corner, but with the second sub being placed in the same spot, it will level it out quite a bit. That being said, is the test perfect...no, hence why I made that distinction in the video. To completely cross off the measurements isn't correct either though. Saying that a slight change in placement makes a huge difference without any context, is sort of misleading. Keep in mind I have done hundreds, if not thousands of measurements in my room with different subwoofers at this point. When you make small changes in subwoofer placement it can slightly change nulls and peaks, does it make a difference, yes, but not a large difference like you stated. Again, the overall output is typically quite close even if moving the subwoofer a fair distance, but it can change the room modes. What's important is trying to get the measuring point and MLP equal distance between the 2 subwoofers. Keep in mind, that the effects of placement are much more noticeable when using a single subwoofer, but when using 2 and using some similar principles the effects aren't as drastic. So although what you are saying does have some truth to it, it certainly doesn't make this comparison null and void. In fact, you can even see in the measurements, that even though the subwoofers are in different corners the nulls lined up quite nicely in the graph, not all of them, but most of them did. I can all but guarantee that if I ordered 2 more PB16's and placed one in the same corner as the D6000 and one nearfield behind my seating it wouldn't change too much and the overall result would be almost the same, especially when considering the overall output. I hope that helps explain why this comparison is valid...cheers.

I’m considering this too. If the 4000 is equivalent to an SVS 3000 pb, then the 6000 must be significantly better if it is being compared to an sb16 ultra. The price difference isn’t much. I think you’d regret getting a 4000 and be thinking you should have bought the 6000. Good to know about putting it in “sealed mode” by filling the ports. Does it come with supplies bungs, or do you fill them yourself with some foam? In regard to sealed vs ported for music, I’ve seen people express polarized opinions about this. There’s a video of a reviewer testing on vs sb SVS and concluding that ported fill the room better and are less directional. They preferred the ported versions for music. As a single sub instead of dual, it might be better ported for this reason. Did you test the sub in sealed mode and compare it with ported to audibly compare? Thanks.

Wow, looks like a great product at a great price. My only issue that after watching several of your comparisons with these subs you seem to be actually clicking on the different lines to prove the SVS isn't giving a full 3db gain but with the TW you just say it looks well-spaced out. You should have clicked on several spots of TW readings as well. Just to be fully transparent. That being said, if I was in the market for a larger ported sub I would seriously be looking at TW. Right now the D6000 is on sale so for those that pay retail you can get two D6000's for the price of one PB16 (US).

One of the reasons I did that for SVS, is because they have a huge following and I didn't want them crying foul with their line. But you're right, I could have done the same for Tonewinner as well. Don't say you're not very smart simply because you don't know something. That's the thing, you don't know until you know haha. I used a free software called Room Eq Wizard or REW for short. I purchased the Minidsp Umik-1 calibrated microphone. Together they measure the response of sound in your space. The bottom of the graph shows the frequency, and the left side shows what SPL that frequency was played at in my space. For more information, here is the introduction to REW, have a read. www.roomeqwizard.com/help/help_en-GB/html/gettingstarted.html

Totally correct the PB-16 at that price puts it in a class of subs it really can’t compete in. I have the Rhytmik F-18 gets to 12.4 hertz at 94db at $2080 it’s a better value. At $2899 the PB16 is out of its class. There are a lot subs that outclass the PB16

@anonymous007advice technically speaking, monolith is also not budget king either. It was 2.5 years ago pre covid 15% inflation hike. New 2023 standards budget king in this subwoofer size bracket is probably the new klipsch RP line 16 inch subwoofer.

I imagine it would go head to head, might even have a little more output in the low end. One thing I like about the Tonewinner is the app, along with the ability to set your own PEQ's to help the response in your room.

I haven't tested the PB12's. But, physics dictates it should be a safe bet to say these will have significantly more output than the PB12's. I have no doubt that they will also provide more output in the lower octaves (dig deeper).

WOW. I must say I'm completely surprised. The additional power ouput of the PB16s i thought for sure would make a noticeable difference. Arent the Tonewinners like at almost half the power? Are we seeing diminishing returns on power. Or maybe better use of it on the TWs? I've got to imagine the PB16 has to have some benefits in sound quality and control with that power. I'm saying this as i have 2 PB16s, and now am getting the feeling i need to switch to 4 Tonewinners🤣. Thanks for the video!! Klipsch 16" comparison anytime soon?🤔

@1FastGXP My understanding is that Tonewinner is working with Summit Hifi on the warranty, as a joint effort. Summit Hifi is incredibly reputable, just look at his reviews. He is one of the best in the business, if not the best. If a person would rather spend 2.5 times more for less performance and to deal with SVS, that choice is always there as well. SVS worked hard to build their reputation, so I don't blame you for calling the reputation of the new kid on the block to question. To charge what SVS is charging for their lack of performance, that is equally as questionable IMO.

I'll be honest, I fully expected this. They perform so well, the original price was far too low for them. Even at $1999 CAD, they are far less than the competition. Like SVS PB3000 ($2700), which the D6000 performs better than, or even the PB16U ($4900), which the D6000 performs as well as. So even though it's disappointing the price went up, they are still WELL worth the price.

If you have a crappy main speaker that doesn't offer good bass you need a subwoofer. The reason why main speakers these days have poor bass is because the diameter of the driver is too small. It's that simple. I have a subwoofer and it's purpose is to rumble the room and provide comforting lower frequencies. Modern subwoofers lack the fullness. They are too damn tight. Sales people agree and it's the first thing to hear when people take their new subwoofers home, customers say it doesn't fill the room very well
@SpecOfTech
@SpecOfTech Жыл бұрын
Okay? Having speakers that don't put out loads of bass, does not make them crappy. There are some speakers, like a lot of home theater speakers and bookshelf speakers that are designed to be used with a subwoofer. I'm not sure where the rest of that comment came from, but I hope you enjoyed the video...cheers.

Pretend you have a channel, like I do. Now pretend that your channel, like mine, doesn't really make any money, honestly it costs you money to buy products to review. Now pretend there is a retailer (Summit Hifi) willing to send you products for review, instead of you having to buy them from your own pocket all the time. Would you choose to spend your own money? OR would you choose to accept some products sent to you for review? I'm guessing you'd probably make the same choice I did. To answer your question, no, Tonewinner does not give me a dime. Summit Hifi also doesn't pay me a dime for reviews. The links I provide in the description are affiliate links, which I often state in my videos and provide a disclaimer in my description for full transparency. I have also been doing quite a number of Tonewinner sub reviews, because I was sent 3 subs to review. I might as well make as much content on them as I can, don't you agree? In the future, if I have other companies offer to send me audio products, I will gladly accept and review them.
