Word of advice, instead of drilling a hole in the wallboard and/or using a jigsaw/sawsall use a keyhole saw. It is specifically designed for sheetrock, and won't cut through or damage electrical or anything else in the wall. Punch it through the wall at an inward angle, and cut a square and you will have a ready made patch for the wall when your done. Just mud up the edges of the hole, press the square you cut back into the hole, then when that is dry, mud over it, sand, and repaint.

Nice repair! You could have sweated a 1/2 by 3/4 MIP adapter on the end of a piece of copper. However, I can appreciate that you did this repair without soldering, which is more accessible to homeowners.

Thank you.... mines of doing the same thing did not think about the leak inside the wall and possible mold. I don’t use that spigot that much but I will look into having it replaced. Home only 3 years old. Thank you... Kinda figured the wall would have to be cut into since it is under a window and not easy as screwing off and putting a new one on.

You could have just made a copper nipple by soldering 2 threaded adapters on a short piece of copper tube instead of ordering the brass nipple. I think it was very wise of you to open up the wall so you can see what you’re doing and make sure they was no leak at the threaded joint inside the wall. Thanks for posting.

Hey Pete, love your video’s. I have 6 turn knob spigots that I want to replace with ball valve. (Washing machine hot & cold, Hot water heater and 3 outside hose spigots) One of the spigots on the outside of the house I will need to break away some stucco (previous owner stucco’ed the dam spigot pretty much). I plan on putting some sort of backer before screwing the new ball valve spigots to get the spigots off the house some that way in the future if I ever need to get a pipe wrench onto the pipe behind the spigots, all I would have to do is take out the back which I plan to use a piece if composite decking that I have left over from doing my deck. I was thinking that you could have got a 9” pipe instead if the 8” pipe and have it stick out a inch from the house and just fasten a 4”x4” piece of 1 by with the hole cut out and slide it over the pipe sticking out and fasten it with some Tapcons and the thread the spigot on.

I liked your video and this is not a rhetorical question -- i want your take: you did all your torquing from outside; the threads are all inside and i presume no assistant to provide opposite torque to protect house plumbing. Were you concerned about that?
@petebeasttexashomesteading
@petebeasttexashomesteading 4 жыл бұрын
If you have copper pipping, it should be able to handle the torque and it will lessen the torque if you use a good thread sealant that will also act as a lubricant.

Ya I don’t think they make 3/4” thread. I had to replace my fitting behind my fridge and I had the same problem. Dude I almost had a panic attack over this! The employees at the big box store said they discontinued that size many, many years ago. So they did make them, but it’s been over ten years since you could find one

I about laughed my ass off reading your post. That is BULLSHIT you have been fed my friend. But what else would you expect from the unqualified idiots that work in the big box stores nowadays? Go to any plumbing supply house and ask for a 3/4" FNPT sillcock, which is available in brass and lead-free brass. No problem. And that's today in 2021. You don't need to purchase it with the riser attached, it is not rocket science to either purchase threaded copper pipe, thread it yourself or even make one from some Type K copper tube and two male NPT fittings. This is not a crisis. So next time, do yourself a favor and look past the incompetent, minimum wage idiots they hire today in the plumbing aisles of Lowes, Home Depot, Menards, etc. Because their experience is from Walmart, Target and PetSmart. Not the plumbing and HVAC trades.

you know he enjoys what he does with the amount of time he took to examine the silcock after removing it haha.. wonder how long that wrong piece lasted. normal copper tubes bust every day. black pipe longevity vs copper hmmm i wonder. the previous plumber man probably couldnt find that dino width fitting and decided to use the black pipe. probably something id do lol ive had my moments trying to track down unicorns doing plumbing jobs.
@StilettoSniper
@StilettoSniper 2 жыл бұрын
Using black pipe directly on copper is a stupid, dumb-ass rookie mistake if you are even a semi-pro. Why would you admit that you would do a half-ass thing like that, especially if you are a pro? No surprise, though, that is why I do everything myself the correct way.

It looks to me like my Nibco sillcock is soldered onto copper pipe. How can I know whether there are threads on the other side of that pipe or if it too is soldered to the elbow? Maybe I'm just seeing it wrong and it is actually threaded on both sides? I don't have any leaking but a bad backflow preventer had to be cut off with a dremel tool causing some thread damage.

Then he would have to be concerned with pitching it downward to ensure it drains completely. Which is not always easy if you are not dealing with new construction. If you don't pitch the FF sillcock properly, it can still freeze up and burst the riser.
