These movie games broke videogame law by being a) not terrible and b) actually better than the source material! Can you think of any other alarmingly good tie-in games? Shout in the comments if so! -OX

_King Kong,_ the 1933 movie, is fun in part because of how it starts with an "Arabian proverb" about Beauty & the Beast: _"And the prophet said: 'And lo, the beast looked upon the face of beauty...'"_ Where's the "Arabian proverb" from? *Nowhere.* The people behind the movie just made it up and stuck the "prophet" thing in there to make it look good.

If your picture is any indication, a close shave could bring you closer to that goal. Maybe consider people as playthings rather than equals, give in to your animalistic and instinctual urges as a way to survive. Put all that together with a strict anarchistic and self sufficient mindset. Heck, you might not even have to kill anyone at that point! Then again, Riddick doesn’t kill people so much as he breaks his playthings. That’s always been how I understood the character.

I'm not sure if The Mummy (2017) would qualify as the one of the worst films of all time, as I feel like there's probably at least a hundred films that are worse than it. The film along with the whole Dark Universe idea certainly qualifies as one of the biggest, most cynical & ill-conceived disasters in cinematic history though. What I personally find funny about the film is that at one point Russell Crowe's character refers to Tom Cruise's character as being considerably younger than him. When the film came out Russel Crowe was 53 years old while Tom Cruise was 56. He's three years younger than Tom Cruise! They seriously couldn't cast a more age appropriate actor for Tom Cruise 's role? Given that Universal was planning on this film being the start of a franchise you would think they would want younger actor who could then carry the franchise for a much longer period of time than a actor who's currently entering the twilight period of their career.

It's not "technically" a game based off a movie, but seeing the last entry on this list reminded me of the Aliens Vs Predator Arcade beat-em-up. Like most beat-em-ups it takes place in a city and the human protagonists were basically "ninja woman cop" and "Arnold from the Terminator, but even bigger and with a giant metal arm", but it had really fun gameplay and the fact that you could play as Predators for some good ol' Xenomorph killing.

The _Aliens vs. Predator_ first-person shooters on PC from '99/'01, too, which had problems as multiplayer games but also top-notch single-player campaigns, including _much_ better stories than both _Alien vs. Predator_ movies. The "Predator" campaign from the second game especially: the story was told largely through logs left behind by the human mercenary your character was hunting, and the concept was that you'd counted him as a kill on some other world, but he'd survived and had his body patched back together by _Alien_ era medicine, and since he was on your scorecard as a hunter, you were obligated to track him down and finish the job.

Unsurprisingly there was actually a Dune before Dune 2. Its a very different style of game despite having a technically real time strategy element to it, and quite unique. Where you have a 4X like mode of play coupled with an adventure where story unfolds. Its quite open in what you can choose to do, and the two modes play in to the other as you go along. If you have the patience to get in to it you do get very invested. (Although I dont think I ever successfully finished it.) It also had a soundtrack that came in high quality on CD, you can find it on KZbin under the name: Dune: Spice Opera. Its quite weird, and quite good.

It was similar to Lemmings in that they would file out one after another and you had to tell them what to do so they wouldn’t smash into a wall or another pit droid. But unlike Lemmings, it was along the ground in a grid, you used arrows with different conditions to guide them through the grid of obstacles and each other, and I could pause and restart the level as much as I wanted to save every droid every time with the right setup.

@@wraithcadmus Extremely good games, the '99 and '01 _Aliens vs. Predator_ games in the Unreal engine. It's stunning how well-written the stories were for _Aliens vs. Predator 2,_ especially since the "Alien" and "Predator" stories were slightly better than the one about the human marine while sticking to a nonhuman mindset. You had parts like the first "Alien" chapter where you're a face-hugger, and the game builds sympathy for the player character by having you stalk the guy you impregnate as he gradually reveals that he's a cruel jerk who almost deserves what's coming. The face-hugger doesn't notice or care, but the player does.
@MegaZeta
@MegaZeta 3 жыл бұрын
@@Dorian-_-Gray Agreed. That chapter's A-level "learn by doing". The "Alien" story has wild level design, since you can dash across walls and ceilings, but you have to get used to constant changes in perspective. The face-hugger can only climb and pounce, so you learn the hardest part first. Second, it's not a follow mission; the events wait for you, because the game knows you're still learning. Last, that sympathy matters because you're a monster murdering human/human-like targets, and the next chapter's goal is to find and eat a cat so you can grow, establishing the amoral thing you really are. It's smart to make your first target a jerk.

Think you better do a second list and definitely mention “x-men origins: wolverine” as so many of the comments suggest, but also no one has mentioned “the Warriors” which is a bit disappointing 🙄

The Warriors was my first thought, I can only assume it wasn't included because the Warriors was also a great film.

@@kurtishowells1327 yeah, they'll either have forgotten or mentioned it too much. I'd love for it to be remastered though.

Man a couple of these really take me back. Specifically Golden Eye and King Kong. I even played the sequel: Rogue Agent for PS2 which was even more enjoyable. I didn't play Star Wars Racer, but I did play the one that came after that: Racer Revenge. It was one of the first video games I ever played as a child :).

Dune is legit one of the most underrated films ever. Books definitely worth a read too it's even better

No, Lynch’s Dune is one of the most accurately rated films ever: it’s a debacle that shows all the ways it might have turned out better than it did. It’s one case where the most popular assessment of a movie is the correct one.

Honestly, the Eragon game was actually competent! Nothing ground breaking, especially because it was in the PS2's final years, but it was certainly much better than the godawful movie.

Which was based on the novel series. Never played the game, read the novels, watched the film. Hated the film.

@@ThomasBlackflame Definitely agree. They took so much out of it and while I can understand having to shorten it to movie length, they replaced good parts with actual crap. I mean they RUINED Angela the herbalist (one of my favorite characters) and didn't do her fortune telling with the dragon bones. The movie sucked, but I heard that there might be a remake in the works eventually.

Does Scarface: The World is Yours count? Or does it have to be directly based on the original movie and not be an alternate continuation of a film?

Are you saying the game is better than the movie?
@GTRfiend26
@GTRfiend26 3 жыл бұрын
To me the game is better than the movie in a sense that it continues the story arc of a really great antihero type protagonist. A lot will agree with me here yet some won't, but the way his story canonically ended made the movie a standard rise and fall plot. A rise and fall and rise again is a lot more engaging.
