I really loved the final boss fight in Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword against Demise. It's a massive swordfight against this imposing demon lord. This fight was insane, between the traded blows and the back and forth parrying of each other's attacks. And that was just the first phase. In the second, Demise decides to empower his blade with unholy lightning, making his attacks stronger and unblockable. However, you can steal this lightning and use it to stun him until you've done enough damage for the killing blow. And it's all on the Wii with it's motion controls, so you have to make each attack physically in your attempt to fell this god of evil. All in all, it's an incredibly rewarding boss fight that just felt astonishingly epic.

Then when you think you've won, he renders you weak and dives for the killing blow. I like Metal Gear Revengeance, but I hate its bosses. A lot of the are just frustrating. I still don’t fully understand how to beat Moonsoon, AND I’VE BEATEN HIM A LOT OF TIMES! And I cannot beat Armstrong in hard no matter how many times I try. He’s like “Oh, you damaged me a little? F*ck you, if you can’t complete the hardest QTE you’ve faced in your life, I’m gonna insta-kill you!” I’ve played both Bayonetta games many times, so I like to think I’m not precisely bad at hack and slash.

My time has come. Monk Maz Koshia from Breath of the Wild: Champion’s Ballad. The DLC uses major aspects from the base game and expands on them in a new way, however when it’s time for the final boss fight, the DLC politely asks the player to hold its beer. The monk that usually congratulates you stands up and says “I offer this final trial” and kickass music starts playing. The guy has all the powers: teleportation, super speed, electricity, cloning, and he even grows gigantic at one point! The fight isn’t particularly hard if you have learned how to utilize the game’s combat system, but it is so much fun! I was left completely baffled and I couldn’t stop laughing and smiling the entire fight! It was completely different from any other fight and it taught me the boss fights can be more than just intimidation and power, and can be insanely fun and enjoyable! Also the fight music kicks ass.

Some of my picks: The Conductor (A hat in time): A plot twist that everyone saw coming followed by the best boss in the game? This fight may start simple, throwing out basic easy to dodge attacks, but it ramps up VERY quickly! Throwing new things at you left and right, oh you got used to the spotlight's falling? How about a few CARS then? Used to that? Let's completely change the moveset of the boss out of nowhere! That not enough for you? Well we just added a time limit! STILL not satisfied? Well NOW there are owls with KNIFES chasing you like a game of snake! Add on top of that the excellent soundtrack and great personality and this is still one of my favs! Augus from Asura's rath is another one! Bro said "You knew this was coming" and then threw out some crazy shit nobody could have possibly known was coming. Although I don't really like the game that much, this remains one of my favorite boss fights. And what about 3/4 bosses in sonic frontiers? Those guys were crazy! Mine: #1: Slave Knight Gael from Dark Souls 3. Not the hardest fight in the series, but good god is it the most cinematic. The AMAZING score that plays, how at the end Gael is doing aerial attacks and lightning is crashing down. The series ends with a beautiful and poetic final power struggle between Fire, and Dark. That quote from Fromsoft rings true here too. Gael doomed himself to ruin chasing the blood of the dark soul so a new painted world could be created. He knew what had to be done and led you to him to finish the job. Hell, the entire WORLD is showing that quote true during this fight as you fight at the end of time for a world that constantly was in a slow self-prolonged decent into ruin. The best part? Dark Souls is a cryptic game where plenty (if not most) people will play through, understand nothing, make few connections, and have a *great time*. I am no exception that's pretty much my initial playthrough. Plenty of people affectionately joke this fight is "two nobodies, fighting over nothing, in the middle of nowhere". While plenty just say it as a joke, and it's maybe philosophically true, it's definitely false. It's a boss fight with a lot of deeper meaning that can easily be easily passed over, without much understanding, or connections made, and certainly while having a great time. ...It's the Dark Souls of Dark Souls bosses. #2: Far less dramatic than the first, Second Dark Matter Battle from Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon. I can't explain the greatness of the fight because I can't explain the entire context and the emotions it brings with it.. (Rather I don't want to because I'm typing an essay here).. But I can praise the score by the same name as my favorite music from all of gaming. Incredible song, wonderfully mixed with your partner's theme which has story significance. The fight itself is not incredible to *watch*, but it is incredible to *play*. Play the Pokemon spin-offs, people!
