I am an old (58) ex-hippy who saw Clapton live @ Madison Square Garden with Blind Faith-- one of the things that *amazes me* about his musical talent is his interest in changing the tempo of his songs-- he delights in taking his favorites & slowing them down/ speeding them up, changing them to reagae style-- a true musical genius exploring what is possible.. and beyond. ;)

This is one of my fav concerts of all time. And how can you go wrong with Eric on guitar, Phil on drums, Nathan on bass & Greg on keys? That's one helluva bunch of musicians (Supergroup even) & the album (August) they made that year was fabulous. I only wish they'd all made a few more pop/rock albums together.

Clapton is like David Crosby, what someone called "freakishly talented" - he is so good vocally and musically that everything he does is nearly perfect. He's made of music, such talent is seldom seen in mere mortals. That's why there are only so many musical giants - it it were easy, everyone would do it. He's just awesome.

At the end, when Phil Collins adds that "extra beat" and Clapton hits those three high pitched notes (at 6:28)... I'm not a musician so I don't understand what's going on, but for me this is just pure magic. Brilliant

Clapton is one of the best guitar player that is his ability and no one should say that he is not a versatile player. He can sing but I say just any good voice that is nice to hear. He do not have the voices of, let us say, Elvis, Tom Jones or Humperdinck or one of the Beatles. As to guitar playing there is one player who already departed whose a guitar playing makes him a virtuoso... Jimmy Hendrix. One authority said he is a "force of nature". But we only now have Eric.

@HammaoftheGods This entire song stays in the key of A. The solos use A minor pentatonic with some passing tones added in by Mr. Clapton. Those added notes give it somewhat of a chromatic feel especially during turnarounds like blues always seems to do.

@muskypucker it's not just 'aging fans' who admire the incredible work Clapton has contributed to music, I'm 16 and know more than just a few people my age who support and agree with clapton's status as a guitar god. Not only does this contribute to the abundance of arguments displaying Clapton has enough support to effectively start a deity-based religion, but also shows that Clapton isn't just great for the precision and musicality in his playing, he is also great in that his music has stood

I feel Clapton was a hell of a lot more interesting a player in the 80s than he is now. This version for example imo is a lot more creative, powerful and exciting than most versions he performs now and this applies to performances of other songs from this era too. Sounds like I'm being a bit critical perhaps, obviously I accept that he's now in his twilight years, but if I ever need reminding of the talent Clapton possesses I go back to his 20 years plus versions.

Whenever I see Clapton playing this song I miss a marshall amp, a les paul + Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce. Something about three virtuosos playing along each other to the point of make it or brake it. No safety belt just raw energy and hold on to the jam for all of your might

@JOHNNYG99X would only like to add that even those great guitarists that play with GREAT feeling sometimes shred too, if the song asks for it. Clapton's Solos are just as hard to play as are Rhapsody's or Angra's. If not harder because Clapton uses a lot less straight forward sequences of notes, as in metal they are mostly straight up and down scales.

Support the ring finger with th two fingers behind it for strength first of all. then--when you do the vib, lift your hand-and fingers -all but the tips of the finger and it's supports off the nexk entirely. Try to exaggerate the wideness. Soon it will feel like when the fingers go up the neck swings down--and vice-versa. Worked for me. Good Luck - michael henry martin

great version.Agree with u jonnygoesrock if ure a great guitarist you wont worry about speed becuz the sound is important and the message not the speed that much..
@WheresMyDinner6416 жыл бұрын
neither, hes just saying that fenders get their crunch from the tubes being slightly overwhealmed by the gain of the pickups and general volume whereas marshalls get their distortion from pre amp settings (artificial distortion) and the messiness of the tube construction (done on purpose). Both are great sounds, marshalls are heavier and are better for modern, high gain music whilst fender amps are better for vintage country and blues. But everything in music is open to interpritation.

Eric Clapton is debatably one of the best guitarists ever. Don't tell me that he probably can't "shred" if he wanted to. I don't think it takes that much talent; but if you say that you have to practice to get good at it you're an idiot. Clapton has been playing guitar longer than you have been alive. He doesn't need anymore practice.
