We need an eyeshadow tutorial of this green (leafy olivey) look you've created. I love a good muted green eyeshadow look. On a side note...not sure if the advice of exfoliate a few times a week would work for everone. I'm 33 and I've always had dry skin, ever since I entered into my 30's I'm getting drier and drier every year. I can't even exfoliate 1x a week let alone multiple times a week. I can only do this 2x a month in spring and summertime and 1x every month during wintertime.

Im 46. I’ve been getting more into cream blush and bronzer. I love the Chanel cream bronzer and Rare Beauty liquid blush. I have to use an under eye primer of some kind before I apply concealer. I never use foundation under the eye!! I apply a thin layer of the Bobbi Brown vitamin enriched eye base, let it sink in for a few minutes then apply concealer. Another tip is a dewy setting spray! I like to apply MAC Fix + to melt everything in pressing with a sponge then set the whole face with Charlotte Tibury or the IT Cosmetics setting spray.

I gave up foundation & never looked better! @ 45 ive spent sooooo much time putting makeup on taking it off putting it on taking it off, never happy with the end result. Now i use a color corrector close to my skin color & blurring powder but after ive done my blush, highlight etc... just to mask broken red capillaries. A little concealer to brighten the highpoints. Its like i have a whole new stash of products bc they sit & look completely different on top of actual skin. Its feels so much better too & my skin looks hella healthier.

I tend to go for satin foundations with light coverage in the summer time and I'll mix dewy with satin in the colder winter months but truth is that I mix several products together to create a very skin-like finish. There hasn't been a product out there yet that will have impressed me to the point that I'll use it on its own. I honestly feel that makeup formulas are making headway but there's much to be improved upon.

@@Tified967there are so many beautiful mixes that I can't even believe my eyes sometimes. I bought the true match nude in deep to mix with L'Oreal infallible fresh wear foundation in a lighter color and added Sun bum glow SPF 30 and it created the most beautiful glow in my skin. I honestly wish I had the financial means to create my own makeup line for all ages and ethnicities. I would use a part of the proceeds to open up a sanctuary for homeless cats while creating an after school program for the kiddos to learn to care for the kitties and play with them until they're ready to get adopted.

I've become such a makeup minimalist at my age, I'm 43. I love it because these days I barely spend on makeup products. First of all, I no longer use powder, don't really need it. I use a skin tint from wet n wild that is as good as all the high-end ones, and I've used those. For the eyes, i alternate between a brown eye liner that i love from rimmel and the fluidline from Mac in brown. I don't use eyeshadow and I have used brown mascara for a good while now. I do have both powder and cream blushes but for anyone looking for a good cream blush, Honest beauty are some of the best, in my opinion. Dont care for liquid blush, they always change color once on the skin, even the high-end brands.

Awesome suggestions! Agree with all of them. 2 products I would add are: 1. Topicals- active scar filler primer for those dealing with heavy scarring in the chin, it protects and perfects heavy texture and ensures your product actually adheres to those areas. 2. Fenty Poutsicle lip stain. You can use them as a base for lips and for those who hate the texture of a lipliner you can use them as a lipliner and they wear very well and gently fade off. No more lip liner without the lippy issues.

Highly recommend a trick I pull: as my Dior lip treatment goes down, I move it to the ‘prep’ bin, adding a couple of drops & shake of #TheOrdinary #MarineHA. After 8 wash my face, I swipe the ‘prepBin’ moisture on, then do a light lip prep swipe FYI: do not underestimate the awesomeness of ‘peel’ around the mouth to reduce dry skin, using your #PrepBinLip, & #BeforeBed patting #Sensei #LipTreatment & massaging in around the #LipMargin, before using a #BedTimeLipMasque (there is some alcohol in the #LaNeige) or #Nuxe #JarFormula

Thank you!!! Explaining how you “buff” foundations in…formula, and all the things!!! As a 48 year old, I have learned light layers and I wear more makeup than I used to just because of my hyperpigmentation and now dark circles, and absolutely normal signs of aging. I love makeup and looking my best. Cream blush has become a staple….Jane Iredale in balmy is “chef’s kiss” and I love the “magic hour and rush hour” from Tower 28. The shade “petal” is gorgeous from Westman Atelier is beautiful and “peanut” from Em cosmetics is pretty as well. Then from persona cosmetics, “Teddy and guava” are my favorites. I top them with that Versace eye to cheek “Roman Sky” or “Warm Soul” from Mac. All I can say is thanks to you Marlena, Lisa J, Nikki LA Rose, Angie hot and flashy, Allie Glines, and Glam Girl Gabi I am covered!!

At 61, I use very little foundation, often times just using concealer. I have to stay away from dewy foundations because most of them never dry down, and require more powder than I'm willing to use to make them transfer proof. When I do wear foundation, I always use the Elf Halo Glow filter to make my skin glow, then use a skin tint. The most important step is applying a setting spray before powder!! Also, even when I go makeup free, I fill in my brows and use a lip gloss!

This is a weird tip I just tried, but it works! I used to put cream blush on the back of my hand and then I worked it into my brush or sponge before applying. Then I tried putting the cream blush into the PALM of my hand instead ,and then proceeding as usual with the brush. I guess the heat of my palm does something extra to the cream because it applies amazingly smooth. Yes, I scrub my hands before makeup and yes, it does mean I have to wash my hands after, but try it. It’s weird, but it works so well. 😊

That way I get a nice monochromatic look and the products last longer on my eyes. Sometimes I just don't have time or motivation to bring out the palette and brushes I would use for eyeshadow. I have to say tho seeing your gorgeous green eyeshadow is very inspirational to bring out the colors and play around a bit more 🤩💚🥰

Agree on primers being needed. Most MUA are so against primers and say you can get the same effect with skincare. I’ve never found this to be true, especially as you age

I have the hardest time finding foundation for acne prone oily skin but for wrinkles. I swear this product doesn’t exist. Anything with hydration, I am guaranteed to get a zit. 43 years old and still have the skin (minus the wrinkles) of teenager.

I’m struggling too. I thought when I got older my acne would go away 😩😩 I found a foundation and then they discontinued it smh! But before that I used to use the Neutrogena healthy skin but it melts off my face after a few hours. It looks really pretty at first tho. It’s just my oils always break up foundation ugh. And a lot of mattifying foundations seem to emphasize my lines and make me look older. When I was younger around late teens early 20s I used the neutrogena acne foundation. Idk how it would look now tho lol.

Ditto! I've tried to focus on my skin care more as a solution - it disrupts the cycle slightly but it still continues. I'm using the Medik8 retinoid 20 that's helping with my acne & anti aging at night and using salicylic acid products underneath my moisturiser. I try to only moisturise where I need it as well/not use too much. I like the Bobbi Brown vitamin enriched face base that doesn't break me out. The Estée Lauder fine lines serum is also not of a consistency likely to cause breakouts or at least hasn't on me.

I’m actually really happy (but not happy you all had the same issue) that I’m not the only one struggling!! I can tell you this though, my journey with cystic acne, severe acne, PCOS skin *blah* …. I tried so many fancy products skincare routines and paid a butt ton for all of it. I mean even as a teenager, I was seeing a dermatologist my skin got so bad and you know how kids are in school (i.e. being called pock mark, pizza face and doesn’t help my initials are BJ -.-) So the best skin care routine I’ve found isn’t costly at all. Face wash/soap: any brand Benzoyl Peroxide 🧼 soap (10% is best), followed by a toner like sea breeze or generic brand toner. Lastly, Benzoyl Peroxide cream/lotion. However, the Neutrogena Stubborn Acne AM cream, is better than the basic clean & clear peroxide cream. It’s got spf and things in it. Up until this point, I had been using the AM cream for both morning and night because it works so well but I think I want to try the Neutrogena PM. (Neutrogena Stubborn Marks PM Treatment with Retinol SA) If you guys want me to make like a shopping list/ wish list thing of the stuff I can do that for you. I’m always willing to help out my fellow 40’s something’s with face care struggles like mine! 💜🦄 I also am an ex-cosmetologist. P.S. This week I have REALLY been on a mission to find a decent, non cakey, full coverage matte foundation with SPF in it that isn’t going to make my face pop a pimple within an hour of wearing it. P.S.S. Edit: Autocorrect is still actively trying to ruin my life, but I fired my typist immediately 😜

So I apologize to Marlena if it was. I just wanted to share what combo too me 30 years to find. But genuine apologies to Marlena 💜🦄 I love your content and wasn’t my intention to do that.

So Marlena, or anyone reading this comment for that matter; here's the scenario. I went to a lovely outdoor daytime wedding about a month ago here in north GA and it was beautiful, 72 degrees, not a cloud in the sky. I wore a really pretty light mint green dress and I happen to have the colourpop mint to be palette and decided to use it primarily on my upper lid and just a nude liner on my lower lashline. My friend said at 50 I'm too old to be wearing colored eyeshadow; especially to a wedding. Is this a rule? Should I get rid of all my pastel and colored shadows and stick to browns and grays? Also, I was in college in the 90's with a unibrow and I only trimmed and waxed in between the brows. Now I just need a little colored brow gel and I'm good to go! Thanks to my late father for the good brows!

The A313 pommade applied at night leaves the face soooo nice in the morning. Highly recommend. My personal tip is placement of blush. I apply it more on the side like she has it in here on the video vs on the placement on apples on my cheeks. DEF gives the look of lifting the face up and a game changer with blush.

My first visit to your channel. I saw you with Allie and decided to check you out. I just turned 71 but still love makeup. I agree that in foundation less is more. I love the new ELF camo hydrating foundation. I still moisturize before even though it’s hydrating. It doesn’t settle in wrinkles and still looks good at the end of the day I do use a setting spray and minimal powder. Glad I found your channel😊

I’m literally a makeup artist and have never felt so unqualified and just lost after turning 45.. you are NOT lying. It’s really got to the point I don’t even wear much makeup anymore and I used to feel so passionate and empowered because it looked GOOD. Everything I had done for years suddenly started looking soooooo bad. I can’t do lip liners, and girl I have a zillion but it just doesn’t look right; I inevitably end up just smudging it then use lip gloss. Can’t wear lipstick because it just ages me. I did use your advice with the Lancome La Base and EL Dbl Wear foundation, that really looks nice.. although with my skin tone I ended up purchasing two so I could blend it better without all the orange. You’ve given me some hope, so thank you!

Marlena, you do the best tutorials! Your information is spot on and it is full of great content! I am so happy you showed the Estée Lauder Double Wear Foundation. I have been wearing it for 30 years and still love it! I find powders are my problem. I actually stopped wearing setting powders and only wear O/S setting spray. Powders just cake, no matter how little I use or how I put them on. You are right about the lips , I lost my definition around my lips long ago. I am 67 years old now and I have a difficult time with my lips and the only thing that stays on them is the Colour Stay Revlon kinds. I have payed up to $140 for a long lasting lipstick, and the Revlon Colour Stays , stays on the longest. You look amazing!! Thanks for your hard work!🙋‍♀️😊❤️🇨🇦🦋 0:07Oh and I did get the Anisa brushes! I love them! Question, you say buffing in your foundation, I always stiffle my foundation with a brush, but should buff.
