You’re right, Nanny! I keep a little card above the light switch in my closet. It says: “Put on some lipstick and a smile and go out and light up the world.” I have found that a simple genuine smile at a complete stranger not only brightens their day, but mine also.

As a widow of 2 years, married 49 3/4 years to my high school sweetheart, I am so uplifted by your videos. And now my BFF has lost her husband 2 weeks ago (married 44 years) and I introduced you to her. We both love your advise and positive life. Sure, things get rough from time to time, but with family and friends and big makeup and jewelry, we will survive. Thank you so very much. ps. Originally a NJ girl, too, but moved away with work 46 years ago. We Jersey girls are special.

What an uplifting motivating video! Thank you Nanny! I especially agree with trying to look our best each day! It does so much for our outlook on life and our confidence! My mom put on her make up and wore cute clothes until she passed at 99 years and 11 months. She lived alone for 45 years, but was never lonely due to her positive attitude! She loved life, flowers, plants, watching golf, good food, and family .I am so grateful for her example🧡 You are giving others a wonderful role model to look up to!! This was such a great video Nanny! We have different seasons in life and things change and that’s not a bad thing! What we did in our single years, married before kids years, raising our little kids years (thee best!), teenagers years, college, and then empty nest- different interests to fit our current season. I do think everyone, no matter their age should always cherish the simple pleasures as much as possible. I also like what you said about accepting ourselves as we age. Our social media and society overall is NOT AGER FRIENDLY! All normal aging is marketed as something is wrong and unacceptable and here’s how to fix it, and it must be fixed, yada, yada, yada. I feel especially sad for the young girls today and all that they see on social media at their young, impressionable ages, wanting to fit in, be liked, etc. must be overwhelming for them. You are always so refreshing to listen to Nanny, and so relatable. You have the gift of connecting with people and you’re making a difference - and I bet your family is pretty proud of you!💜 Stay safe and God Bless You and your family!💜

Best advice ever: learn to enjoy small joys of life.Accepting the changes that happen in our bodies as we grow .As I walk my little dog in my local park ,I sit on a bench & do stretches cause I'm trying to stay flexible as I age & if I wait to do them at home,I'll find too many excuses/ distractions & I won't do them.Loved this video.Hugs from SC.

Great advice and video, Nanny. We have to look for the moments of joy at this point in life. I do feel regret about the places I wanted to see and things I wanted to do that, at 72, seem unattainable for various reasons; I tend to get depressed. I keep thinking how much time is behind and how little is relatively left. This past Christmas, one of my adult children became estranged from another child, and to a degree, also from me. It has caused me such grief and heartache, because I've been prioritizing being a mother and grandmother for nearly fifty years. I try to stay healthy as far as possible, and, I manage money as best I can. No partner or husband, which leaves a void. But, I definitely needed your "little pep talk" today, as yesterday was a bad one. Thank you for sharing this upbeat, yet realistic video. Blessings to you, Moosie and your family. Rosemarie 💖🌻🍁

Loved, loved, this motivating video. I thought of you today as I was shopping at Walmart for 1.5 hour. I agree with everything you stated but making myself get up & out is my problem. I don’t like the words lazy & can’t, but sometimes I feel lazy & think I can’t do anything. I’m 81 & always have been a positive thinker & energized, but I struggle with it now & have no excuse to not get out & socialize. I like fashion & looking my best, but if I have no plans or think I’m not going to see anyone , I just dress for comfort & do nothing. Shame on me!! I need to watch this every morning. Wish I could sit & have a latte & a chat with you. I love talking about my sweet family. ❤️

Oh Nanny this has to be one of the best videos you've ever done! Lately in looking bk at old pics of myself, I remember thinking that at the time I thought I was fat...or frumpy...or unhappy...etc. Guess what? I WASN'T. So how many days, months, years did I ruin for myself with that kind of thinking?! Well no more. I am who I am. Yes in mid 60s I still care about how I look & feel, but I refuse to allow pessism to ruin my today. I am embracing what I CAN still do, and ignoring what I can't. There's an old saying (it's even in the Bible) that you become what you think about - so guard your thoughts above all. This tough love talk from you was On Target. Thank you, thank you! Oh Nannythat you for the motivational video. When I was in my first year of nursing back in 1972. I was going through a nasty divorce. I had one child and knew it would be a mothly battle in court for child support. I want to make a clean break and support her myself. His jealousy was obsessive with dangerous tactics used against me. He was friend with all the cops. I couldn’t bring my books home to study or he would burn them in the fireplace. My instructor asked what was wrong with my chest. I said nothing. She was relentless and touched me. Asked why I had a rib belt on and I told her he broke 2 ribs Sunday because the hospital was working short and needed an RN. This was in 1972 and if one RN was in a hospital you were lucky. So I got ready. As I walked down the steps in the garage he shoved me into the big mirrors on a conversion van we had causing me to have broken ribs. It was so painful to breathe. The next morning I filed for divorce. Because of property settlement it took 10 yrs to finalize it. One of my instructors said, “ Linda your ‘re a smart girl but you don’t have confidence. Here’s what I want you to do from this day forward. When you look in the mirror, I don’t care where the mirror is say” I an smart and I can do this.!” For 4 yrs I did this and it was amazing the change people saw in me and I saw in myself. Post affirmations. I’ve taught others how to change their life. Ms Umberger is no longer alive but I sent her a letter 7 yrs ago telling her I was working in the trauma unit and was working on my masters degree. I gave her full credit but she would have any part of that’s. I thanked her over and over and asked her to look inside the card she did and was like a child, she had $100.00 to spend anyway she chose. We said our good byes ending in “positive affirmations work” she passed away 4 months later. Such a lovely lady that changed my life for the better. I’ll never forget her and the love she had for her student. Most students hated her. Thank Nanny for teaching May other positive affirmations as they definitely work. We feed good things to our mind and receive back or we put bad things in our mind and receive bad things back. Our thought process can make us or break us. I love you nanny. And say hi to Moose for me. I love you both!

It also made me think of Stan Zuray from Yukon Men, remarking about something he had created "This is something I can look back on with pride!" Both about creating enjoyment and happiness for oneself. - It is important to have our need for connections with other people met! I agree completely.

I agree, Nanny, it starts with a decision or several decisions, that despite circumstances, we will live our best life. Appreciation of the small things, an attitude of thankfulness for myriad small things, changes the mindset. Meeting and making friends: social skills deteriorate with lack of use, and isolation contributes to this. Be gentle with yourself and they will grow stronger once again. Decide not to dominate conversations or talk at length about your health. These behaviours do not aid making friends. It is not considerate to 'do all the talking'. Show a healthy, warm interest in others and laugh at your own expense. These things have helped me. God bless you all. 🙏💛🐾

Nanny ~ You have such thoughtfulness in reminding us we have more control over our lives that I think we sometimes have forgotten. Everything you mentioned is a shot in the arm to remember in this fast paced world to learn to be aware of those gifts all around us, big or small. Nature has an enormous healing affect on me, as I’ve gotten older and wonder how I missed so much in my younger years. However, I think wisdom has something to do with that. Anyway, thanks for your kind words. You have my appreciation and blessings.

Glad you mentioned Steve Jobs Nanny. Young people need to hear his quotes. All his money couldn't cure his cancer. People are so materialistic today. They have no clue what is really important. I worked for many doctors who would talk about their stocks, cars, vacations, 2 homes. I never envied them. I was never impressed and really didn't care what they had because I knew what was really important in my life and you said it all.

Nanny what a great video! We can have a pity party, cry but say a prayer and give thanks to God for for it all. Like you I’m a very positive person because my grandma would say,” people don’t like complainers . If by nature the complainer is normally positive take the time to listen that’s all they need is a friend to talk with. But if a person is always complaining about everything and never positive, try to give them encouragement if nothing more than to say,” I’m sorry you’re having a bad day but always remember “after every cloudy rainy day the sun will follow and look at the sky and say,” such a beautiful sun shinny day , God is telling us to smile! I remember her words as if she said them yesterday not 70 yrs ago. I’ve told people to give themselves positive affirmations by looking in the mirror and saying out loud “ I’m a good person, I’m beautiful and I can be anyone I choose to be.” Our minds over time will believe what we’re feeding it. I’ve trained so many nurses that passed state boards and when in the real world of hospital work would feel so insecure and id tell them about giving yourself positive affirmations and the power of our mind. I’m sure you’ve heard Coleen speak of these. They work wonders for children and teenagers. You may have to take them to a mirror and tell them what to say but in time you will notice a change. I would tell the nurses do this before every mirror you see. They would be a rose bud that became a full bloomed rose. I loved psychology so much after getting my masters in nursing I went back and got a degree in psychology and used both degrees every day especially working in the ER Trauma unit. Oh, I wish I could go back and work another 48 yrs. It’s a calling that won’t release you. I still take CEU’s and will take the test prior to reading the material just to test my memory. I’m glad I don’t live close to anyone because I squeal when it says ‘Passed’ . I average taking 3 a month. If I had a close by neighbor they would come to see if id lost my mind!😄

Oh, Linda….I almost screamed with joy myself just reading this! If only every woman who doubts herself as to what she can do…could also read this!! God bless that wonderful Grandma of yours….so wise… I wish I could post your comment somewhere permanently…I so related to your comment about passing exams..of all kinds in my life…real estate broker, state boards in teaching degrees in different states, RCFE administrator, etc…screams of achievement when you open that envelope and see “passed”! Thank you, Linda..you are blessed and I so admire you! BIG HUGS, 🙏🎄❤️

Hi Nanny. Good points and advice. I tell people on my channel that even though I have Cancer, M.S. and Diabetes, and I'm 71, I still get lots of opportunities to do short trips and see my family. Do things, as you say, that will give you peace of mind. Covid has kept me housebound for two years and I am in a wheelchair. Problem with the chair is to find a friend who has the strength to push that darn thing.

Hello my sweet friend…I hear you…you are a strong lady, and I so admire your inner strength…we are working on finding a lighter wheel chair for Moosie…my son is getting one for us that is lighter and easier to push….when we visit the kids I try to push the chair we have…it’s old and the wheels are small but my sons take over when we arrive. Plus it’s quite heavy for me to put in and out of the van..around the cottage Moose can use a rollator.. I hope you can continue to get out and maybe find a lighter chair, too.Stay strong.. sending prayers for you, my friend…🙏❤️

Hi, Denise again. In my M.S. group there are two women who are larger and their husbands are smaller. The problem has always been the weight of their wheelchairs. They found one on Amazon that is lighter, looks more like a transport chair, plus it has a small battery pack and joy stick so my friends can maneuver it themselves when they go shopping. I'm sorry I don't know the name but I'm sure with a bit of a search you could find it. I think they were $3000.00 Canadian, but hey, if it can save your back then it might be money well spent. We have always struggled to find a sturdy chair that is still light enough. My manual chair is an Invacare and I have a mobility scooter for long jaunts plus a small power chair for when we went on cruises (in the before Covid days). Mobility and accessibility are such tough things to deal with and ya gotta be tough. You are.

Nanny you are spot on. It's always been a joke with my sisters. How we get excited when we get a new pair of socks!! It doesnt take much to make us happy. I am 78 and I stop myself when I get sad about my age or my health. I'm blessed to be that age and I have found myself going to Joanne's craft store for instance. I always start a conversation with ladies there. It chases loneliness away. I thanked God for the fact that I was able to visit my daughter in Oregon and enjoyed the beautiful scenery and my time with her. Yes, I was wearing a back brace, but I was able to still enjoy being there. Love makeup and I have distressed jeans with holes in the knees. I love them. I don't care what age of dress I should do. If I like it I wear it. No, super short dresses are not for me anymore , but cute shoes, cute jeans, etc that are really cute, I like. If I can't get anyone to go to movies with me, I go alone. I don't mind. Love all your advice Nanny, you are very wise. 🥰

One of my favorite videos, thank you. I sent this to my daughter to prove I’m listening and coming out of the Covid cocoon. She worries I’m not “out” enough. In truth, I barely have a spare minute most days with so many projects and hobbies. Thanks, you give me new ideas to squeeze in.💙
