My Grandfather on my Father's side was part of that unit, and fought with them in the Argonne. I found this out only a year and a half ago since he never talked about it, and his medals had been stolen during a break in of his Bronx Apartment in the 1960's. He lived to the age of 92, and never moved from New York City.

Thank you for sharing true history of Americans giving their lives regardless of the cost. My ancestors and family served in wars here on shore and abroad. Today, we still rank from the Pentagon down every branch and every rank. To God be the glory. I learned about guns from them. 🇺🇸

One of most decorated Units of WWI. At the French decorated them and respected their devotion and abilities.

Because of these men, I got to serve as a M1 Armor Crewman and was treated with respect, judged on my merits. I salute these men and the white men who gave them a chance.

Served USMC 2013-2017 and didn't know anything about these guys until I joined. Blacks are very patriotic and love our country.

I personally want to thank those black servicemen for their service in both WW1 and WW2. Many Americans can only now recognize the resistance and persecution these brave men endured! God Bless ALL WHO SERVED!

Worked offshore oil for 30 years with these guys grandkid...ok maybe Great grandkid. 1980 to 2010. Went to school during "Integration". Had a black man save my life. Twice. And I've saved me a several guys too. Found some guys floating in a little survival raft from a downed copter. I saw orange. Only orange, the color of distress.

Well, here I am, all relaxed in my recliner, watching a most well-done series on World War I, when what to my eyes should appear, out of my past, BILL GWALTNEY! I notice you hair has turned as white as mine. I hope you are doing well, my man! Message me...

Didn't Pershing get his name Black Jack because he spent most of his career leading Buffalo soldiers? I contend he gave what he thought was the best troops to the French.

The US made a terrible error in getting involved in WW1 as anything except as a mediator and charity provider. It prolonged the war needlessly and involved fighting a faction that was no threat to the US. In doing so, it destabilized Germany and brought factional conflict that led to much of the worst parts of World War 2 and its aftermath.

Not true. US ships were being attacked. That is a direct threat.

Not true. First of all the introduction of American Troops shortened the war by providing overwhelming numbers of additional men and equipment which negated the German reinforcements that had arrived from the Eastern Front. Secondly, Germany was already becoming destabilized to an extent because of the British and French Blockade which was blocking vital economic materials to Germany. Third, Wilson did try to negotiate for a more just treaty, but it was the other European Allies, primarily France that wanted to and did impose the harsh Versailles treaty which caused most of economic problems for post war Germany.

Get your history right! The British didn't refuse to serve with the Black American troops. They weren't asked. In particular, they had their own Black troops serving in many units as well as Carabien troops in their own units. I know this because my great grandfather went right through the Great War from 1915-1918 serving in normal British regiments. And he was black. I also have the photos to prove it.
