10:47 sorry but that comparison is wrong. Lower temp has nothing to do with lowering the voltage there. It was lower because your fan was spinning twice the speed in the second run. Try running the two settings at the same fixed fan speed and I guarantee that the first -stock- will be the cooler.

You are correct, I actually noticed this while editing. That being said, it's still a great reinforcement of how a little tweaking can net both better performance and lower thermals! Thanks for watching.

Voltage slider is more of a offset. So if you lower voltage but raise clock speed the algorithm will also raise voltage and won’t just lock it.

Ha ha no problem man, it takes a lot of trial and error! Try just going a little higher on your voltage, lower on your max frequency and it shouldn't be too bad. Like I said, find a setting that's stable and save the profile! It saves a lot of headaches. If you're trying to get maximum performance, be prepared to mess around for a while as you might get random crashes and such. Definitely use a benchmark tool and let it run for a while to make sure everything is stable!

Are you seeing any error messages? Something like "radeon software has stopped and reset to default configuration"? If so, that would be considered a crash, and your most likely solution is increasing your voltage and/or decreasing clock speed. If that's not what happening, you may have forgotten to save after you change your settings.

So, for the 6600m you will NOT have much room for overclocking. Mobile gpu’s have much lower power targets and lower performance, and they do not have a lot of headroom for overclocking. This is because laptops (usually) can’t really cool a higher performance chip effectively, and the motherboard isn’t designed for overclocking. You may be able to get more performance, but only maybe a few fps at best. If you are interested in trying to boost performance, a better option would be an external desktop GPU if your laptop supports it. These aren’t cheap, but they can be a huge boost in performance if your laptop has a good processor.

You will increase wear on your fan itself. I’d personally recommend upgrading your pc fans (arctic or noctua would be my recommendation) and using an app called fan control. Fan control allows your pc fans to spin up with your gpu, for much better cooling in your case. I want to cover this in a video eventually, but jayztwocents has a video already!

So my Power Tuning option is maxed out at 0. There is no space to slide to the right to reach 1-20. Is this a PSU problem? I know very little about all this stuff, so that's my only guess. I can't find anything on why so far.
@n.o.b.s.8458
@n.o.b.s.8458 Жыл бұрын
To simplify this down, the manufacturer of a gpu (let’s say Asus) will build everything on their board, except the Radeon chip. Because Asus selected these parts themselves, they decide how much they want you to be able to adjust power limit. Cheaper models might only have a +10 offset, while higher end options might go up to something like +25. It all depends on the manufacturer’s choice. I have two theories why your card doesn’t let you change power limit: 1) your gpu is from a low-quality manufacturer, like biostar. They make cards VERY cheaply and there’s no room for overclocking. 2) your gpu has a “bios switch”. This is a small slider on the gpu that has two separate bios settings, usually one is for silent mode. You may have accidentally flicked this switch over to the other bios option, which may not allow you to change the power limit. Research your specific gpu to see if it has a a bios switch. This issue has nothing to do with your power supply.

@@RubixCarmine yeah man, there’s a lot to learn! Using the Radeon software, you can’t really do much damage so feel free to play around. For basic overclocking, max your voltage and see how high you can bring the core clocks up. Then, test stability in a benchmark and move on to vram tuning. Last step is just ensuring that your gpu is staying at a good temperature with fan tuning. Honestly it’s more trial and error than anything else! If you’re concerned about reliability, just leave your settings stock. You aren’t going to have night and day improvements from an overclock, maybe 5% or so. For reference, that’s the difference between 70 and 73.5 fps.

@n.o.b.s.8458
@n.o.b.s.8458 Жыл бұрын
Short answer: That's totally fine! Long answer: For a long lifespan from your card, the lower the temperature, the better. Based on how much you're willing to spend for a good case, extra fans for your case, how high you want to run your GPU fan, you'll find a healthy range. There's a tradeoff between temperature, cost and operating noise from your computer. Graphics cards will start to reduce performance at higher temperatures. Different gpu chips will throttle at certain ranges, but usually anything below 90c will be technically fine in terms of your chip not being damaged, and not having thermal throttling issues. Hope that helps!

Sounds really bizarre to me. First thing I always like to check for is thermals. Is your card getting above 75c? do your fans whir like crazy? If so to either, it's probably an issue of either broken fans in your case, or you case being caked in dust. Aside from that, I'd disable Radeon Super Resolution, Radeon boost and any settings under "graphics" to troubleshoot (personally I've had issues with those, but not radeon enhanced sync). Finally, if none of those solve your problem, I'd guess it's a driver problem. Use DDU to remove all old gpu drivers on your computer. It's a bit hard to explain but J2C has a great video on the process here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fGmyfZuLdrV3p5I

Dude, 0 rpm under 60 is standard, your fans are spinning for no need even while the card is idling, and i believe fan speed relates to hotspot not gpu
@n.o.b.s.8458
@n.o.b.s.8458 Жыл бұрын
Using 0 rpm is your call. If you prefer silence that’s fine, but many times we experience bursty workloads that suddenly require gpu usage. When this happens, your card has to work to cool off additional heat suddenly, resulting in sudden high rpm spikes, along with less effective cooling (as the chip is already hot). This also means your gpu will reduce boost MHz speed to keep temperature under control. As for hot spot vs gpu, the biggest factor is actually mounting pressure and cooling design for the difference. It’s the same components being worked, but a better cooling solution will keep a small difference between the two (such as 5 or 10c in high-use situations). Gamers nexus tests for this if you want more information. Hot spot can get quite high safely, but high gpu temp will cause throttling for protection. My angle is graphics card longevity and consistent performance. For both, having consistently low temperatures is what you want. Keeping your card at 60c won’t ruin it, but your fans will regularly ramp up and then turn off (which I find annoying) and it does hurt the lifespan of your card as opposed to consistently low temperature.
@MrGeeKey
@MrGeeKey Жыл бұрын
@@n.o.b.s.8458 Look, more than 5 years ago all gpu manufacturers agreed that there is no need to spin the fans below 60 on gpus. It's not only a matter of quieter case, but by going with it you are prolonging longetivity of your fans and reducing the amount of dust that they are sucking into the heatsink. Besides their electromotors also use power and heat up. So I dont think your arguments are valid but are the matter of personal preference and I'm ok with that. But there is no merit it claims that the gpu itself will benefit from it. Regarding hotspot I dont think you understood me. I ment that gpu temps under fan options in wattman are in regard to hotspot temps and not gpu temps. Regarding bursty loads, and dont know in what scenario this is in regard to. Cpu and gpu adjust clock constantly in regard with the loads, but fans spin in regard to the temps, and temps increase gradually.

@@MrGeeKey you seem to know your stuff, I’ll just say that this video is targeted at people who have never previously undervolted or OC’d. Clock speeds do constantly adjust according to a variety of parameters, including thermals. By running your fans consistently, your help eliminate brief periods of throttling by preventing fans from having to rapidly spin up, cool down and stop. I will say that in gaming this probably DOESNT matter, barring rare situations where there’s something that doesn’t require heavy GPU usage. However, because I also do video editing, photoshop and music production, I aim to eliminate potential issues that can arise in all of those scenarios. Sounds like overall our goals just differ slightly. Last thing I’ll add is that I’m also using fan control, so my case fans spin in accordance with gpu or cpu fans based off of usage. This is another reason I run things the way I do and help keep temperatures under control consistently.
