Wonder Dog is one of my absolute favorite games of all time. I wish Sega would release a Sega CD Collection so alot of these games were more accessible. Original hardware is getting rare and unreliable and some of these games deserve to be rediscovered.

16_bits_of_furry _427 actually screw Sega, I would love to see a core design collection. They made most the good games on the Mega CD. And instead wasting time with FMV they really pushed what they could do with the systems scaling capabilities. It was way more advanced than the SNES, as it could handle sprite scaling on top of a mode 7 plane. Core then made some generally good platformers too.

@@sloppynyuszi I agree!!! I think there's room for both lol. But you are totally right about Core Design. Definitely an under appreciated Game development company

This is one of my favorite systems of all times. I had one not to long after it was released. My friends were so stoked to play it with me. Night trap was probably the game I played the most. I had made a little notebook of every time, room and place where augs would come up, access code change times ect. I played this everyday after school for months to perfect it. This was back in 1994 but I believe I got when somewhere in 1993. So many great titles to choose from. Those cases for the games though. Even as a young boy, I took very good care of my collection. I couldn't even avoid those cases getting damaged. Nice job with the vid John. 👍

I first bought the model 2 Sega CD back in the mid-90s, and while the system even then was pigeonholed as an add-on for cheesy FMVs, I was playing games like Lunar, Sonic CD, Snatcher, Earthworm Jim Special Edition, Panic! , Popful Mail and plenty of other good games. These days I own the Model 1, which I found at a thrift with a Model 1 Genesis for a little over 10 bucks. And I still have it hooked up for the occasional game.

At first glance on Wonder dog I immidiately thought: "Oh, it looks like an Amiga game!" And, I was right. Although it first appeared on Sega CD, it was developed by Amiga developer-Core Design and later ported to the Amiga. But, it can not be "hidden gem" since it's generic Amiga platformer out of the time of oversaturation of such games on this 16bit platform(s). And Sega CD should present itself as pinacle of gaming in 1992, instead introducing games that can run on already 7 year old platform (Amiga).

Mr. Hancock I just love Dark Wizard! It's my favorite strategy-rpg. I've got my copy back in 1994 and still own it. I've played for countless hours. The orchestrated soundtrack itself is one of the best I've ever heard in any game. The huge game manual with more than 100 pages and all the detailed info about weapons, classes of heroes/foes was equally great. That game is an underestimated gem of the genre. More people should play such masterpiece for sure...

Mr. Hancock, I am a retro collector just like you. Unfortunately, I have a problem you might be able to help me solve. A game has eluded my grasp for 28 years and I'm hoping you will know its name if I describe it to you. The game was on a Sega CD and had you flying biplanes? It had too have been an early Sega CD release...I'm thinking first year. The one and only time I saw it was at my local Blockbuster when the Sega CD first dropped and everyone wanted one. The 3d graphics blew me away and it was extremely colorful for the time.

Great video. My two favorite games on the add on were Dark Wizard and Sonic CD. Loved both. Dark Wizard I spent countless hours going through 2 of the 4 character's playthroughs. My good friend played through some of the other characters and was always better at navigating some of the menus. Military Madness and Nectaris games are a more refined strategy game in this style with better AI but this game felt epic with how it progressed and the soundtrack is some of the best Ive heard in any game. My real introduction to RPG/Strategy games was actually Final Fantasy 3 on SNES and Dark Wizard. Prior to that I was very dismissive to both games, but a friend eventually convinced me to try them and I got hooked on RPGs. Prior to that I got Dragon Warrior for free on the NES with a sub to Nintendo Power and while I liked that I wasnt really sucked in until those two games.
