I use neodymium magnets to raise the bivy from my face, one inside and one outside with a hook.

Great bivy bag. Together with the patrol and intermediate sleeping bag, I think it's the best bushcraft sleeping system. I'm so happy to have this all year around me.

I put a T shirt over the head end of the sleeping pad, then put an inflatable pillow between the pad & T shirt. The T shirt holds the pillow in place.

You should have left the bivy open off your face unless it was too cold. That is more comfortable and creates far less condensation.

Awesome video man, I have the MSS also and thought about sewing some tent stake loops in it and some Velcro loops around it so you can cut a green limb and have it on the outside of the bevy instead of the inside, also you can make you a wool mask that would catch most of the moisture from your breath , loved the food and the camp

Where did you get the knot and edible plant guides from?

Search for “A Pocket Naturalist Guide” in Google or Amazon and you’ll find them. I have the Knots and Edible Plants ones but there are a lot more!

Try a pool noodle to keep the bag off your face. Use it the same as you did the branch but it won't poke the bivy possibly causing damage. Also you won't have to compromise the bivy by sewing into it to put tabs on the outside. The noodles weight nothing and bend tofit in or on your pack

I think that Clover you were eating was actually Wood Sorrow. Cover has rounded leaves Sorrow has heart shaped leaves.

John Rackley you know, I believe you are correct. I read that wood sorrel is also known as “lemon clover” and it did have that flavor. Right on with the leaf shape too... thanks! 💪🏽

Best thing about a bivy bag is you can build a bed of leaves under it so you dont get wet. But still have a soft bed

Man, I gotta slow down to do this sometime, reminds me of my youth when me and a buddy would just strike out and go ! I enjoyed the laid back approach of your video too, you didn't bang the "like" and "subscribe" over my head at the end... so... I liked and subscribed. OH and that shrimp!!! way back when in scouts we called that "low country boil" technique "silver turtles" ... doesn't get any better or easier to prep / clean up. I've got a super lightweight bug bivy (screen with a single pole that acts like your live stick did), and it is snug but an awesome feeling to be able to see out while knowing you're zipped closed from creepy crawlies ... totally recommend for warm weather. that said I've been looking at getting back out again and the usgi sleep system parts are on my list. it is too hot for me in TX most days to warrant a fully closed environment. did your father also say "be good" every time he left ang situation. when you said that at the end it reminded me that I say that too and people look at me funny.

OK, nice set up. Sleeping bag, pad and bivy bag. However, to put it to the correct test, you have to spend the night when there are some substantial rain showers. Otherwise, its cakewalk. Too easy.

I just found your channel and subscribed! Check out mine sometime. I have the same bivy. It's nice but I wish it had a bug netting and was a bit roomier so you can change your clothes inside. I borrowed a Outdoor Research bivy from a friend and liked it better but they are pricey. And I know what you mean about getting that feeling. One time I hiked up a mountain with only that GI bivy, no tarp and the weather suddenly turned very stormy and windy so I bailed right before night fall and went home.
