I'd say go for it but I'm biased. They aren't like driving a modern car though. Are you mechanically minded? If you are then my suggestion would be to get a cheap banger that will be easy to drive and cheap to insure, then get yourself a project Landy. That way you'll be mobile and can take your time building yourself your perfect Land Rover and get to know every nut and bolt in it while you're at it. Henry, the Landy in the video was my first and I'll never part with him, but I've had others too. It's an addiction!

@jamesclarkson30093 жыл бұрын
My neighbour has one of these - 2.25 diesel like yours. He let me drive it and it was great fun but my god it felt flat out at 35. Does it just take forever to go up in speed? Maybe you have to give it loads in 3rd before going to 4th to keep it going?
@BarryRowlingsonBaz4 жыл бұрын
What's the engine rpm at 50mph with no overdrive? 40mph in 4th seems like top speed in mine, but maybe I'm being cautious. Overdrive in and 55mph is a comfortable motorway cruising speed, but I've overtaken slow trucks on the motorway and managed a pinch over 70 downhill with a tail wind. GPS speedometer because the dashboard one doesn't work...
@gillonstewart16014 жыл бұрын
I really don't know to be honest, although I'm intrigued myself now so I will calculate it and get back to you. What tyres etc do you have on yours? Mine is a completely standard 2.25d 88" but fitted with 235/85 r16 tyres (metric equivalent to 109" 7.50 tyres). I have had 70 (downhill) on that same road but downhill. 60mph is possible on the level quite easily but 50-55mph is more comfortable. The camera doesn't even begin to convey the noise at those speeds!
@gillonstewart16014 жыл бұрын
I've calculated the engine speed at 2834 rpm at 50 mph and 3401 rpm at 60mph.

"dangerously slow" doesn't apply here - it's raining and it's fuel-efficient and quieter to drive at this speed. But I suppose you don't care about these three variables if you're driving this vehicle.
@gillonstewart16013 жыл бұрын
30mph is very much dangerously slow on a national speed limit road. If anyone drives at 30mph to save fuel and have a quieter drive then they shouldn't have a license. Excessively slow speeds effectively creates a hazardous obstacle that other motorists must avoid. Drivers may not correctly assess a much slower vehicles speed in time resulting in abrupt braking or evasive overtaking. This can be particularly hazardous for large vehicles such as HGV’s that need a good deal of time to prepare in a change of speed or direction. You can be charged with driving without due care and attention or without reasonable consideration for other road users (penalty code CD30). The more serious penalty CD30 comes with penalty points on a motorists licence, anywhere from 3 to 9 along with a fine.
@archimedesbird34393 жыл бұрын
@@gillonstewart1601 The lack of a dedicated speed limit is not an invitation to go 60 mph.
@gillonstewart16013 жыл бұрын
@@archimedesbird3439 Yes you're quite right..... and what exactly is your point? I neither suggested it was, nor do I actually drive at 60mph in this video. To suggest, as you do, that 30mph is a reasonable speed to drive on a fast, busy main road because it is quieter and saves fuel is frankly ludicrous and dangerous however. it's people with this attitude that cause accidents because they frustrate the queues of vehicles stuck behind them that are forced to pass.

@@gillonstewart1601 Not all Series Land Rovers are slow, it just depends what is under the hood, a friend had a S3 109 with a 3 litre Essex V6, the speedo needle would go off the end but it did get hot inside from the heat generated by the transmission, was behind a Stage 1 on the motorway going to a 4x4 event at Trentham Gardens, l was doing 80mph and the Stage 1 was pulling away!!!!!!

Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they even want to slow down all the gas pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.
