One part not mentioned is the leak pump detector found on 2003 dodge caravan SE this one happens to be a flex fuel, I have code po456 it happened just after replacing an old oil fill cap that was not sealing with a new one that seals... Then this code po456 came up.. I am wondering since the old leaking oil cap was decreasing the overall vacuum and then by fixing the old leaking oil cap I am wondering if this caused the overall vacuum to go up and then become just enough to trip the code through the components on the emission system... some are saying that its the Leak detection pump on a 2003 dodge caravan. And yet I am thinking first to replace the gas cap being that the oil cap went on this 20yr old vehicle that it is not a related issue and that cap may have went bad too. after replacing the gas cap if does not work...one other thing I can do to prove my theory about overall vacuum increasing may be revealing a small leak is to put the old leaky oil cap back on clear the code and see if the engine light comes back on.. which will not be a fix but will just reveal to me how sensitive this system can be and it would not really be my answer to the code problem and I will have to keep looking.

I have the same question. On my 2001 Dodge Dakota 3.9 V6 there are two "U" shaped hoses on the canister and I went to replace them and found that the nipple for the small hose that goes to the fuel tank was broken off and about a foot of the hose was torn off. I've been throwing a P0442 & P0455 error code every 100 miles or so. What is that hose called and how hard is it to replace? Thank you!

Hi, thanks so much for your helpfull video. I got the problem as well on my 2019 RAM 1500 (5.Gen.). I will go through all the steps you mentioned. But it is weird as I can delete the error code in the bord computer and drive for a couple of weeks before the error comes back. If there is leak or a bad valve or a incorrect wiring shouldn't be the error immediatly back?

I can’t seem to figure out where the hoses go from the emissions system. I’ve got a major leak (hoses burned up by exhaust) and can’t find where they go to repair them. Can you help?

Did you get a smoke machine? I would have put it in the damaged part of the line and looked for hoses that size under the hood and disconnected them to see if there was smoke

I've got a big tube that comes off my canister and heads for the brake booster, but it's broken and I don't see anywhere it could go. The tube is not shown on the diagram under the hood and it's not on yours either. My purge valve is connected.

Same here. I have a similar issue with a hose hanging from underneath the gas cap but everything else is connected where it needs to be.

I am having problems when I fill up with gas. The gas fill handle trips constantly and I hear air gurgle in the fill pipe. Also have engine light on too.

That is a common symptom of a bad vent valve.

multiple evap pumps replaced as service said pump bad. purge valve also replaced. is it possible the fuel pump mounted on top of the fuel tank could have a leak? fuel pump was replaced months ago as plastic fitting broke leaking fuel. smoke test shows no smoke. p0440 and p0441 codes.

Yes, EVAP Leaks can happen at the fuel pump. Usually, a smoke machine would show smoke though.

Good luck with that. Even if you wanted to buy a new fuel tank with the plastic evap nipples it is discontinued, unavailable. There are no service approved fixes, only hacks like hinge pins and JB weld. This issue could very well render my 04 ram with 80k miles junkyard status. I get around this by clearing codes and doing a drive cycle, evap system reports “not ready to test”. MIL is not lit.

Ive got a 2002 dodge van 3500 extended van under driver side door underneath is my charcoal canister it majes a pecking noise you can also feel it first time i hesrd it i suspected rod knock then discovered it was the canister also im getting string gas smells more inside the van than on the outside also cold stsrt or 15th stsrt of the dsy it dosent matter the fisrt crsnk it will not stsrt let up on key switch try an stsrt a second time sometimes it will start no problem other times it will try an stsrt as if its eitger out of gas or flooded and its even backfired not like out of time but like it was in middle of firing up am sone shut it down before it actually had a chance to burn the fuel on compression stroke and fire up then theres times it wilo stsrt up like a brwnd nee vehicle at first b7mp of key switch wheres this gas smell comings from and why ive changes air filter an did a tune up nee plugs rotor button wires parts store ssys there's no listing fir a fuel filter on this vehicle but i know it has to have a changeable fuel filter somewhere i also haven't changed the pick up module in the bottom of distributor cap yet nor the coul that is next any ideas it shiws 198 thousand miles on speedometer runs great but wgen you on highways go to knick it into passing gear it most of the time is luke a slug (snale) bogs but dodent kivk into lower gesr but the times it does it will move on wth u no issue

?? Thx for Vid, However can you give your input? I had Ram gas 2500 running and went to take off and it 'stalled' and won't crank. I have power to everything except starter. My scanner says P0499 "Evap vent valve control circuit high"

An EVAP code is for emissions and won't cause the engine to not start. When an engine doesn't crank, the things to check are the battery/terminals, starter, and fuses/relays.

It varies by year and model, often it is on the fuel pump and sometimes on the top of the gas tank. An Evap diagram for the vehicle will be needed to know for sure.

Usually there is a leak, or a valve gets stuck closed/open, but they can get plugged up sometimes.

Help!! Having an issue filling tank get 10 cents in gas and click every 10 cents or so code says gas cap replaced and still having issues ??

Venting issues. Had the same problem. Check your gas tank vents. Turned out mine was broke off had to drop tank and rerun the vent line. The fumes building up is preventing it from filling. I’m 90% sure that’s your problem.

I have same symptom but I took it to a shop and they told me it was the vapor/charcoal canister. I’m going to do it myself because they quoted so high, so I can’t confirm that it does fix it yet lol

Hi. I just replaced my fuel pump on a 2015 RAM 1500 because of bad fuel level sensor. It ran fine for 4 days. Then had intermittent no starts. I had a code for pressure sensor. I replaced that. Ran fine. For a day. Then no start again. No engine codes now either. No permanent codes. It won’t start at all now. Cranks but nonstart. Help. I’m about to take it to mechanic and throw in the towel.

It needs to be diagnosed, but it sounds like a wiring issue. If you have a meter, I would get a schematic and check if the gas pump has voltage and good ground. Also, check that the plug is all plugged in good.

@@HVAC_Mechanic thank you. Well, the pump runs to prime the pressure when key is in ON. Also jumpering fuse #70 for the pump and bypassing, I can get the pump to run continuously. So unless I completely miss something, the power and pump are ok. I tried the pump relay bypass and that didn’t work. I am trying to figure out how to check fuel pressure at the engine. I don’t find a schrader fitting for my fuel pressure gauge.

@@HVAC_Mechanic I was just in there as I could without dropping the tank. All connections and wiring looks good as when I put it all back. 🤷🏻‍♂️
