I don't understand the Gate In on this module. When I hook up the key step with v/oct and gate in, the Victor keeps droning instead off going silent after releasing a key...Is this normal behavior? How can I play this module with a key controller or is it a droning machine? (Behringer manuals are so not helping) What is the Gate in then for?

Victor is an oscillator module. Like most oscillator modules, it produce a signal continuously. Put it through a VCA with and envelope. The gate is for triggering the mix envelope. It will simulate moving the joystick over time to change the mix and therefore the timbre.

So the Gate in is not note on/off…but isn’t X/Y in doing the same, simulating moving the joystick? What’s then the difference between Gate in and X/Y in?

U didn’t explain why all of a sudden there were X and Y outputs. Where did they go?

@joshuabpolys No, I did not go into any detail on that. These outputs will produce +/- 5 volts each to represent the location of the Joystick. Anywhere you can use a control voltage, you could use these outputs. I'll be releasing Part 2 tomorrow, then in a week or so, Part 3 may well have some examples (use cases) for the X and Y outputs. One example is to use the X output for pitch bend (route it back into the FM input). Another could be for filter cutoff, or vibrato amount. does that help?

@@moogfooger Great question. There is only a single CV input, but there are 4 VCOs which can be at 4 different frequencies. So, yes, monophonic, but 4 VCOs.

this module is broken, gate input is not doing anything

@kaszaniarz Here are a few debugging suggestions: 1) The Gate input requires a v-trigger (goes positive 5v when the gate is on). If you use an s-trigger, it will not work properly. It's best to use a keyboard with CV/Gate (v-trigger), or a MIDI to CV converter, so that you have full control over the length of the gate. Otherwise, if you have a 960 sequencer, try the 960 oscillator output (clock) running in the low LFO range (3 to 5 seconds per step). If you don't have a v-trigger, but you have a 961 interface, convert the s-trigger to a v-trigger. OR Try the square wave from a 921 (not 921b) oscillator. Note: a SLOW clock is very important to be able to hear the "mix envelope", which may well take 3 seconds or more to run it's course. 2) be sure you're using a preset (e.g. #20 or #25 ) which has a slow enough mix envelope to be able to hear it. #20 takes a 3 seconds to get to one of the waveforms that is an octave lower than the beginning waveform. Because of the pitch change, it's easy to hear. 3) be sure you're listening directly to the Mix Out. A filter may well mask the harmonics that are changing. Let me know if that helps.
