Not to long ago I had the opportunity to buy a couple Peterbilts at a real good deal.Once I opened the hood and seen they had Paccars in them. I shut the hood and said no way would I buy them.Especially after watching you work on them.Thanks for all your content on these pieces of junk.

Most all engines small to large that are junk. They but are built to break down so they make more money selling parts. As in my comment on this video, Briggs knew that the compression release was junk 10 years ago but did not fix the problem.
@DaveG79202 жыл бұрын
Paccar are no different to any other popular engine, there are tens of thousands in service and some have trouble. Mechanics never hear about the good ones as they work away quietly with no trouble. Cat, Cummins, Detroit, Volvo they all have problems. They are new to Warren though, he doesn't have as much experience on them as the more traditional "American" engines, perhaps understandable that he doesn't like them as much.
@CHudson42 жыл бұрын
Paccar is just as reliable as Cummins. Just different problems.
@jonbarfield49152 жыл бұрын
@@CHudson4 yes all manufacturers have issues but when they know there is serious problems and don't address them is something else different. Like GM ignition key problem for years and some have died because of it, that is the problem at hand. Profit before product is what we have now. Yes I know no one has died because of Pacar it's just one of many examples. A 18 wheeler not pulling loads is devastating to those who own them
@jonbarfield49152 жыл бұрын
@@DaveG7920 profit before product. That truck is not making the owner any money now is it. Piston pin bushing walk out is poor Reman workmanship! Remember the John Deere engine night mare? Once more poor workmanship!! Both are from the dealership, where is the quality?

The problem with many people is that they think what makes a professional is having a big fancy shop with fancy new equipment, a lot like these people down here that have lawncare services. They invest thousands into equipment and a year later they are bankrupt.the guy that knows what he is doing is conservative in his truck equipment investment and is professional in his service... That guy is in business year after year. Long story short it's not the fancy billboard that makes a professional mechanic, it's the results of his work. Great job warren

I started out working for grumpy old men, who gave me every menial task. They also cussed me like a rented mule. But with all the b.s that I had to endure, it was a better education than I could have ever gotten at a trade school. The best thing I learned was always be open to suggestions. But also be confident in your own work, and don't listen to opinions. You are one awesome mechanic, Warren.

How things change.........back about a year ago, when a Paccar engine came in this shop, I ragged on it, because in Australia we know these things are junk. Anyway, people came to the engines defense............they dont do that NOW! We figure out things pretty fast down under..........everything is hooked up to 68,000kg or 80,000kg combinations all over the place and crap breaks a lot faster. Dealers and manufacturers cover things up, and deny the "problems" that exist in their products, but this channel we get to see the problems in the wild, and they are REAL.

I look at the water pump on my truck and think, "gee golly gosh, that pump looks old!" But why replace it? I drain and replace the coolant if it tests bad, the hoses are mere years old, I don't beat on it all unholy. And the best part? No ECU.

Warren I'm sure you know this, but there is a simple way to test those thermostats. Get a large pot and a candy thermometer. Put the thermostat in question into the water and heat the water to the temperature the thermostat should operate at, check the reading on the candy thermometer to see if the thermostat opens/closes at the correct temperatures,or if indeed it is stuck in one position or the other. Just a thought. I've used this test for decades.

@danielbutler5782 жыл бұрын
The replacement engine got a new damper because Warren didn't think it was wise to use one that came off a broken crankshaft. The replacement engine had 2 small end rod bushings fail. This was not a crankshaft problem on the replacement engine.

I’m not understanding the core charge situation. If you send the block with the broken crank back from when the short block was bought that would cover the core charge there, then when you swap out the engine currently in truck with the new engine that would cover that core charge. Unless I’m missing that the broken crank would not allow for a returnable core?
