Think the problem with engineers is that the old engineers used to mentor the young engineers and this does not happen any more. Also the lead engineer used to be someone with 20+ years of experience and this does not happen anymore. Then most things are not engineered to last and be rebuilt. Also designing stuff the designer would go outside and see and talk to the person building it and designing was all manual and the designer really had to thing. With computer aided design most of the thinking is not done and the internet is a big distraction.

*23:27* The word *shit* was actually an Acronym from Old Colonial Settlements. It was stamped in bright yellowish red capital letters, on the Hold doors on Merchant ships, ferrying goods & people up & down the East coast, that carried substantial amounts of cow, pig, chicken & horse manures for Farmer's various crops. They discovered the hard lessons of deadly spontaneous combustion, when cargo like this would suddenly explode with great force. The *_Acronym_* SHIT stood for Stow High In Top (of cargo load) so methane wouldn't collect inside the Hold.

All theses stupid dryers now are so complex but you can just spin the dryer part off, but you still have to take it apart to clean it all out. Something you do annually,( or should do annually) . I thought all these terrible Navistar engines were bad, but it looks like Paccar said “ hold my beer watch this” what a bunch of crap

Sometimes an opinion can be justified. Other times its a crock of shit. Paccar are the second biggest heavy Truck Manufacturer in the States. And the third Largest Globally not bad for a bunch of crap wouldn't you say.
@greglammers99052 жыл бұрын
@@anthony1636 I have no issue with Paccar the truck, it’s when they decided to build engines that I have a problem. They are way over engineered, IMO. Then add in the government emissions mandate and you have recipe for disaster. Even the companies that their bread and butter is engines, I.e. Detroit diesel, and Cummins have problems. There’s a reason Caterpillar got out of the truck engine market, and international AKA navistar started offering Cummins engines in there buses and medium duty trucks. Their engines were a disaster. The company I worked as a technician for 40+ years quit buying international buses in 2010 because we were having so many issues with the navistar engine. We only started buying them again when they offered the ISB Cummins engines in their buses. ( 2015 I believe) we had no problem with international the truck. And when you sell your own engine you can offer it cheaper and that’s what a lot of bean counters buying buses and trucks look at unfortunately, because they usually only keep there stuff till the warranty runs out, it’s when the next guy buys it and it falls apart and ends up being a nightmare.
@byronexley68292 жыл бұрын
@@anthony1636 Nope not bad as a chassis builder. However, a lot can be said about their engine building technology. You must be very young. On the other hand myself being an old retired tech, PAC-CAR still needs to learn how to build a reliable engine and Tranny

Most peterbilts have a remote line/ fitting a front if truck to air up. Those new bendix air driers have the check valves built into drier manifold and are pressure regulated so you may have to try and slowly induce air into the system. You notice in a regular situation with truck running it will air up one air tank and not start to air the other unit tank taking air goes over 100 psi then it will start to fill other tanks. It all draws back to those new type air driers and how the tanks are plumbed to that check valve manifold on drier.

It is so sad and disappointing to see you pulling this POS back apart after putting so much time into it the last time. Bad enough the old engine failed with a broken crankshaft way before its time but the remaned engine failed because either they did not use assembly lube on the wrist pin bushings or the installed the bushings wrong. When I did rod bushings I used to make sure the oil galleries would blow air through them and if you could see the oil hole lined up. I was burned once on a new connecting rod that had a blockage in the internal oil gallery from the factory casting. The oil gallery was not all the way through to the wrist pin bushing and the engine lasted about 15 minutes before that piston and cylinder grenaded on the test run. Good thing I was working in a factory shop because after the cause of the failure was found on the tear down I was no longer the goat. After that I always blew through the oil galleries before putting them together.
