Love the morning rising sun turning so many of the trees golden!! Well Frozen, I consider you a PCT thru hiker, you missed only those miles that were unavailable to you! And im a perfectionist, with seven decades I've learned to not allow the lack of "perfection wharever that is" spoil the results, and to enjoy the journey!! 2201 miles !!!!! Whoo hoo🎉🎉🎉 Wow pic of the entire sheep lake and surrounding was so beautiful, looked like a water color painting! Mt Rainier is so majestic!!! Think you discovered a Sombrero Mushroom, omg!!! I think the fires are affected by years of drought, that is the case in Ca. You are spot on with the need for funding both for management and cost to fight the fires.

I love your videos and your journey. I don't love that I keep seeing you camp in meadows. What looks like grass is actually a. super delicate community of little alpine meadow forbs that will die permanently after only a handful of crushings. A lot of alpine meadows near trails are suffering because people are camping on them, not realizing how delicate those plants are. The recommendations is to camp on "durable surfaces" like vegetation-free duff, rock, dust, dirt, mineral soil. I know you don't mean to harm the vegetation, I assume you just didn't know. I felt like I needed to say something because lots of people watch your videos and may indirectly learn from you that camping on meadows is okay, or even desirable, which it's not. Thanks for listening. Enjoy the rest of your hike, I hope everything goes smooth with your fire detours.

Prescribed burns and forest management defiantly helps with forest fires. There is money for it but politicians rather spend it on other stuff that does nothing to help the environment. Jasper Alberta recently got burnt down and this was talked about for years that a big fire will come cause of all the dead trees. But rather build fire breaks and prescribed burns they wanted to keep the forest naturally and this allowed a huge fire to happen. In many ecosystems fire is needed for new growth and humans recently stopped all fires. This allowed fuel to stack up, native Americans did tons of prescribed burns.

We've been fighting fires too vigorously for too long. All the accumulated fuel slows the fires down, acrually boiling the sap of large trees which would survive normally

I’ve hiked up Mt. Rainier, and it is magnificent. You can sit at 8-10k ft and see Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Adams so clearly. Unfortunately, it takes 2 days to summit with the need of ice gear. It’s on my bucket list to go back!

I know you mean well, but fires are normal here in the west and near or on the trails. It’s always been like that. Just normal. Like tornados in Alabama. Or hurricanes in Florida. Just normal. I wouldn’t worry. Nature does what it does. Happy trails.

The state of Texas actually has more forest land than the state of California. Texas does controlled burns on all of it's forest land and it shows with out lack of forest fires. When hiking on the trails in the Piney Woods of East Texas you need to check for trail closures from prescribed burns. Yes, we did have the horrible fire in Bastrop in 2011, but definitely not ever year.

So proud of you on the 2201 miles. I could see it in your face when you paused. It's got to be bittersweet on the fire closures and when you reach the monument. I'd feel the exact same way. Does it work like the AT where you have to complete the PCT fully in the same calendar year or how/when do you anticipate finishing the fire closure sections?

Most people won't sit through 30 minutes a day. I try to inspire others to hike so I also try to appeal to the majority. I'm with you though I love to watch full length trips. My thought is do 18 or 30 minute shows when out but when he gets home put them together in a full length video. He doesn't have to try to do it on the spot. I know that's crazy. 2 or 3 hour of content while getting ready for next day are relax eat and sleep. I get that but once home it would be awesome for home bound people like me and truck drivers who are out driving long haul. That way people who can't watch long content they can watch the shorts and then guys like me with no life can watch the hours long version the whole trip doing the pct.

Hey Jason, I've watched all of your vlogs over the past 10 years or so. I'm started watching because I returned to backpacking at age 61 and knew i didn't want to go back to sleeping on the ground. Those early hammock video's were a big help especially dialing in my tarp set up. I guess one question I have for your return to PCT in 2026 will you be using a tent or reverting back to your hammock? And why? I also have a suggestion for one of your post hike videos. In this video (#58) you mentions something about your gaiters having extended the life of your shoes, could you explain that in more detail? I in the past I have worn both Altra's and Topo's but now i prefer Hoke's and the only disadvantage is that they don't easily accommodate gaiters. I'm sure someone has has a YT video showing an easy modification which I will research before my next adventure. Thanks for all you do to help hikers improve their hiking experiences!

The money for control burns is already there. It's "administrative" costs that take all the money to feed the fat cats. Log it, graze it, or watch it burn. When the ranchers and loggers managed the forests, there wasn't as much damage. They did clear cuts between mountains that stopped fires from being able to run. I remember those days. We had plenty of wildlife to both experience and hunt, because they had forests to live in. It's public land, we don't need to charge to walk it. We need to elect people who truly understand management.
@FrozensAdventures

15:00 No, no controlled burns. More fire fighting, and maybe lightning rods on top of the mountains to attract the lighting. Back in the 1950s, 60s and 70s when we didn't do controlled burns and put out forest fires faster, the forests were fine. Over 40 years of controlled burns and lack of firefighting is what has got us this this mess.

Frozen, would you agree that if your gonna hike the PCT, certainly NOBO, should U go into it knowing your gonna have to skip part of the trail due to fire, is it the inevitable? Do U think going SOBO would affect getting thru the “fire season” & not have’g to skip so much trail before the fires break out? What is your opinion about going SOBO in elation to the “fire season” ? Did Merica say anything about his journey going SOBO & getting thru the fires- if any fires @ all?
@FrozensAdventures
@FrozensAdventures 27 күн бұрын
I plan on making a video about this when murica is finished. Hoping I can get him on a live as or a video to answer these SOBO questions because I am genuinely curious myself. I think going nobo in general you should expect to have to go around a fire closure or 2 or even more. I think the PCT gets harder to hike with a continuous footpath (on trail without alternates), every year I do think an average speed nobo like myself should shoot for the last 2 weeks on April to start if that gives you any insight.

Washington state o m g! You guys are so close now, man keep pushing. I got a question. The book A.W.O.L. On the Appalachian, trail refers to a Bigfoot. Is this the same Bigfoot? I Apologize if you've already answered this..
@icarusfarmsWV
@icarusfarmsWV 28 күн бұрын
The root of the problem isn’t lighting it’s humans stopping fires over the past 100 years or so and the more recent banning of logging which, combined, have resulted in too much fuel on the forest floor from things like the countless D fir trees that have not been stripped out from smaller fires for decades. Now fires are catastrophic and go through the bark of the bigger trees and kill then whereas in small fires they would be fine. How do you fix that? It will take a massive shift in forest management/use, a huge unfueling of the forest floor. And worst of all, I housing areas near forests unless people are ok with their houses just burning down in the event… Unfortunately so much forest is so out of whack at this point it will take a long time to get things stabilized again, generations of time.

Since your desire to "complete" your PCT journey is to do ALL of the fire closed areas, is it planned to do those two areas by Shasta and before Shelter Cove as well ? On another point somewhat to this, IF you can't do it, due to life's complexities and all, do not get down on yourself. I am sure you will not but focus on your next goal(s) as no one that has not even a clue to what you two and many others faced. These days, there will be some sort of issue of why sections may not be finished. Enjoy your journey when you get to Harts Pass which probably has already happened by this day, 20 Aug.

The fires are from poor management by governments. I lived it in California. They do release cows in summer to manage some areas but honestly it sucks and even worse is the areas need to burn because the undergrowth is so thick.
