As a landlord, I expect that after a tenant moves out, I need to hire a cleaning service to deep clean the house before it is even shown to prospective tenants. That is a cost of doing business and not the tenant's responsibility.

Finally! A landlord that is reasonable. I spent the last 2 months every night after work deep cleaning our townhome that we rented 7 years. Washed every wall, window, blinds, carpet cleaned. Cleaned out all the cabinets w/ Murphy soap too. Cleaned the bathrooms, light fixtures, doors, oven, fridge-=you name it. Came back after moving everything out & cleaned for last time. I even cleaned the front & back doors inside & out in the hopes of getting my $1200 back. Got nothing. He claimed there was wear & tear on carpet so he had to replace it and repaint the whole house. All things that he should do after 8 years. My husband lived there 1 year before I moved in. Omg, I should have left it broom clean only & saved and myself 40+ hours cleanings. He deserved nothing. Mind you he never renewed after the first year, we lived there 7 years w/ no lease. Hope there is a special hell for butthole landlords.

I disagree with you because he did try to clean it up the best he could and to my eyes of the pictures he did clean it well but as a landlord as you say you still have to do other things before another tenant moves in so I just think she was nitpicking

I hate when men like ole boy think that they cannot clean (or know how)…or that is “woman’s work.” I can tell he was probably slovenly and most people who keep up on their cleaning daily/weekly would not take a work week to clean a bloody trailer park home. Plus, I have met quite a few women who were horrific cleaners and had nasty houses and whatever; I mean, duh. Lastly, Curt was done with the plaintiff AND the defendant at the end 😂

She was being unreasonable and possibly lying, but I don’t think she was giving the judge attitude. She simply thought she was in the right when she wasn’t. I wouldn’t be surprised if she did use that gun as an intimidation tactic though. I’ve known people who carry guns for their safety and they don’t keep them easily exposed for the world to see (or possibly grab). People who feel the need to show it are doing so to make others defensive. It would be like me walking around with a machete and wondering why people are twitchy as I walk by lol

if the lease had a provision for upkeep of the 'gardens', then it should also specify the levle of cleanliness required for the interior - its a normal part of most leases (usually "broom clean" is the standard - and the landlord usually cleans the place after". it also sounds like the defendant tried to pull a fast one on the gardens. after seeing all the JM and JJ episodes I'm taking a thousand photos the next time I lease a place. with a newspaper etc.

My son had a landlord that had a 20 page lease, notes of rules on the inside of cabinets & a wrapped cutting board (from dollar tree) under the sink with a note that that if used there’d be a $10 charge.
